Anchor Bay Entertainment Anchor Bay Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring the direct-to-video animated feature 'The Haunted World of el Superbeasto' to Blu-ray on September 22nd, day-and-date with the DVD release. The feature is based on Rob Zombie's comic book of the same name, and should be considered as for adult audiences only.

Technical specs and special features have not been announced at this time.

------------

I've been looking forward to this for a few years now. Good to see it's finally coming out. On a side note, Rob Zombie posted this scene from the movie on myspace:

This is on my to-buy list, even though I'm not a rob zombie fan, I love most all things animation, and this looks like it will be pretty fun, looks a nice nod to Bakshi, Heavy Metal, and other adult animated features.

The comic is really fun and off the wall. If the animated feature captures half of the feel of the book, it should be great. I'll definitely be picking this one up.

Yeah, I'm not a Zombie fan at all, but this looks like it could be a blast!

Saw a midnight screening last night. Really enjoyed it. If you like adult cartoons, particularly Ralph Bakshi stuff, then you will have a blast. I will be getting the blu-ray.

Well Rob Zombie is a liar. It's already available on DirecTV's PPV. I was going to order it, but it's priced at like $7. I figure that'd be $7 I can put towards the bluray when it comes out.

I caught a one-night only midnight show of El Superbeasto earlier this month. There were only four people in the theater, and it was a projected DVD.

Anyways, it's a pretty fun (and quite filthy) animated movie. I like the visual style and all the cameos by well-known movie monsters.

That sucks! It happened to me at a theatre showing the Woodstock film a couple months back. We were fortunate enough to see a print of El Superbeasto and there were about 60 people or so. This just happened last Saturday at the Mayfair here in Ottawa.

Projected DVD? They didn't even bother to project a blu-ray version? :eek2:

Finally got around the checking this out tonight, and I have to agree with the majority of the reviews, it's pretty damn awful. It falls completely flat and I don't think I even laughed once. This animated farce should be avoided. 2009 is not the year for Rob Zombie's film career... he's 0 for 2 this year in my books.

$6.99 on Blu Ray at Best Buy. Is it worth it???

I couldn't get through 15 minutes of this, so I'd use that $6.99 to buy a gallon or two of gas. That way you'll get your moneys worth.

Same here. It was painful for me to sit through this steaming pile of shit. Am I the only one who like it better when it was called Ren & Stimpy?

For 7 bucks, I'd say it's worth it. personally, I thought it was a great throwback to stuff like "Fritz the Cat". I was entertained for the duration of the flik.

Everytime a movie is praised I hate it. So I went ahead and grabbed it. With my luck it will be not as bad.

I liked it a lot! When the film started, it was so haphazard and crazy, that I started regretting buying it, but as it went along, I liked it more and more. Definitely worth owning. I know I'll watch it again. I'm a sucker for good adult animation. It had an incredible amount of homages to so many difference things... Scooby Doo, old monster films, Benny Hill, Carrie, you name it. I wish it had a commentary track by Zombie.

This is the kind of movie you have to be in the mood for. I was not in the mood for this 12 year old humor. Needless to say I really did not enjoy it at all. I think you really have to have a taste for this kind of stupid shit. Zombie is a total hack please hang it up.

I read many negative reviews on this site, but I picked up the DVD for $4, so how could i go wrong?
I am not a fan of Rob Zombie as a filmmaker, but god damn, this was his best movie!!
Funny with lotsa film references, and a great cast. The short running time helped and the cheezy, but amusing songs kept a smile on my face. I thought the image quality was excellent, and the whole thing kinda reminded me of the early Ralph Bakshi type of animated film. Bottom line, the movie is not for everyone. I liked it, I will watch it again. That's more than i expected.
