There's a couple of really exciting DVD releases coming our way that I've just read about:
Dunwich Horror
Who doesn't love American International Pictures? I'm hard pressed to name a studio that released as many cool B-Movies as these guys. The fact that it's being released with a minute of never-before-seen footage makes this a definite purchase.
Count Yorga, Vampire
This is a really great AIP flick. Much better than one would expect; with a great story full of creativity. Again, there is extra footage here that has never been seen in any release.
can't wait....

Yes, those are greatmovie,s but since it is coming out on MGM DVD, in which most of us are all boycotting, dont expect too many people getting excited over these releases! :D :D ;)

Boycotting? You got to be kidding. Given the lunch money price MGM ask for their non spec eds.

Isn't there a documentary about AIP coming on AMC sometime soon? Anybody know when this is?

Unfortunatly, I must say that I am intereested in some of the newly announced titles coming out of MGM. I'd love to boycott them, but sadly they somehow aquired the rights to several films that I love (including Boxing Helena, at least I don't think it was an MGM release). And the Dunwich Horror, though quite flawed, is one of the better Lovecraft adaptations. I really thought this would never see DVD release... and 16X9 to boot. Now, if only they'd give all the films 16X9 treatment. I'm really wondering why a class act like Audrey Rose isn't getting it. And hey, I'm not longer buying DVDs that are not 16X9 no matter how much I want the film, period. I'm upset to say the least with Fox's neglect to make Abyss 16X9, and Universal's The Thing and But I'm A Cheerleader too. I'm tired of buying multiple copies of films, when I buy a DVD it's the last time I'm buying a film! So I want it to be worth the money and in my collection for the long hall. 16X9 is the way of the furture, all DVDs should be anamorphic, there is no excuse for new releases not to be. So Audrey Rose and Swamp Thing and a host of others will be staying on the store shelves as far as I'm concerned.
Really, I want to boycott MGM!!!!!!!! But I doubt they'd licence out their films for other companies to release and will there ever be a future release of Boxing Helena? As much as I like the film, I seriously doubt it.

But I'm A Cheerleader is actually 16x9. That was why I bought it instead of renting. Glad I did, too, it's a great little flick.
Back to the topic at hand, I read in Widescreen Review today that our friends at MGM have some killer titles in the pipeline for 2002.
According to Bill Hunt's article, they are planning to release Motel Hell, Dead And Buried, and Deranged. There were a few others mentioned, but those 3 are the biggies for me.

DVD Zombie, thanks for the info man, I don't know why I seem to have overlooked that. It's right there as plain as day. Yeah, I read your post and flew down to Movie Trading Company and picked me up a copy for a mere $15. It's a hysterical film.
Does anyone know what the ONE minute of restored footage is for Dunwich? Violence? Exposition? Just curious. Thanks!

I read a review of THE DUNWICH HORROR MGM Midnite Movie on VHS in Video Watchdog a while ago. It's the restored version, and the extra footage is nudity!

I don't know if they have the info on their website or not. I read it in the print magazine, in Bill Hunt's monthly article. If you're interested in checking it out, it's the one with Bedazzled on the cover. The info is a few pages before the DVD review section.

Dude, if you want the best version of BOXING HELENA maybe you should wait or get a LD player! The LD box set version was the unrated cut, with audio comemntary by Jennifer Lynch and Julian Sands, it was even autographed by Jennifer Lynch!!!

I thought about getting a LD player (due mostly to LD releases of films I think will never show up on DVD... like the Unearthing or the Uninvited), but I really don't know a whole lot about them and wouldn't know where to begin when scoping them out. I'm running out of room with the VHS and DVD collections I have already. And as far as I am aware LD players are not being made anymore so a used purchase would be a gamble... and future repairs would be outrageous. That Boxing Helena set sounds great, but would I even find a decent copy of it now? I think LD is to risky, for me anyways.

while i'm at it,
Legend is back on track for a release at the end of the year. now it's supposed to be an 'ultimate edition' as opposed to a 'collector's edition'. okay.
Twin Peaks - the entire friggin series - is getting it's release from Artisan. hey, i still think that series (season 1 anyway) was pretty damn cool.
though it's non-horror, the Godfather Trilogy is coming as well. i don't know about you guys, but i've been waiting a long time for that one. there's even going to be a fourth disc of special features.
