CDs are going to break me! New music by Immortal, Slayer, Behemoth, and I'm sure I've forgotten five others.

Only a couple of DVDs I'm looking forward to, but I do tend to be impulsive with them, so probably I won't spend as little as I hope too :)

I wish I thought about it that much! It's more like, ooh shiny! And then after hitting the "complete order" button, "I wonder if it's any good or if I already have it? I should have turned around to look at my shelf first..."

And then I hang my head in shame for a minute, until the next shiny thing catches the corner of my eye :)

(I'm only exaggerating a little - I do usually turn around, but I've also had to cancel a few orders!)

Yeah, lately I can't stop buying dvd's. Not necessarily new releases or anything, just movies I've been meaning to get forever but just haven't. I've also got a few concerts coming up so I'll spend even more money on tickets drinks and t-shirts. Fuck it though, it's not like I have other bad habits to support, I just can't stop buying dvd's!

I buy roughly 5 DVDs per year and haven't bought a CD in nearly 5. That said, due to things like, you know, monthly bills, I will, in fact, be broke by the end of September :D

I'm no economist, but if you're going to be broke anyway, why not go for it?

kidding - I applaud your self-control/downloading skills; monthly bills are a pain. Lately I cancelled the TV portion of my cable bill, but should be paying off my credit cards instead of buying more stuff, but.... (I have no excuse)

i'm quite the impulse buyer too and yes, probably in september/oktober i'll buy a lot, but it could also be that i'll suddenly develop saving skills and only order 1 or 2 things

we'll see, but my chamber, where i store my DVD's and CD's, will soon need an extension, because i don't know where i'll be keep storing them:rolleyes::D

Honestly, the reason I stopped buying DVDs is because of Netflix, and the reason i stopped buying CDs is that I lucked out and have a client that works for a local radio station that hooks me up with promo CDs every month.

My initial comment was more of a joke, lamenting about the good ol' days when I'd spend every dime I had frivolous shit, lol. Christ, from the time I was 15 until I turned 19, I was holding decent paying jobs and living at home, just blowing hundreds of dollars a month on VHS tapes, DVDs, and CDs. While it was fun at the time, priorities eventually step in and make you budget your money a bit more wisely.

Actually, a secondary issue from all of the fun spending that I've had to deal with over the years is freakin' STORAGE! My household has (at last count from this past spring) 350 VHS tapes, just under 800 DVDs, and over 1500 CDs. Seriously, the space needed to cram this crap into is unbelievable, lol.

I'll be broke as well, but because of other reasons, hahaha. I got hit pretty hard on my last screening I put on - mainly because of FedEx International shipping charges and customs. Seriously, at the cost of shipping, those prints better have been sitting first class with the celebs getting Cristal poured all over them. . .

What prints are you getting?

I screened El Topo and The Holy Mountain late July. Attendance was enough to cover all my other costs, but the insanely overpriced shipping is what killed me. I lost about $725 (shipping costs after both ways and customs came to $800... If they didn't ship International air, and went ground, I would have easily saved $300-$400...)

So hopefully 'The Beyond' screening next Saturday will bring out some bigger attendance numbers and I can recoup some of my losses.

I'll probably get:

Toho Collection: Icons of Sci-Fi
Deliver Us from Evil / Fox Affair, The
Teenage Graffiti / Teenage Mother (1967)
Gradiva
Nikkatsu Noir
To Dance with Death
Night of the Dribbler
Bob Clampett's Beany and Cecil, Volume 2
Audition (Blu-ray) [if price is right / reviews are good]
Classic Educational Shorts, Volume 1 - How to Be a Man (1949-1970)
Classic Educational Shorts, Volume 2 - How to Be a Woman (1948-1982)
Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (Blu-ray)
Karloff & Lugosi Horror Classics
Thaw, The (Blu-ray) [if price is right / reviews are good]
100 Feet (Blu-ray) [if price is right / reviews are good]
Ichi the Killer (Blu-ray) [if price is right / reviews are good]
Drag Me to Hell (Blu-ray) [if price is right]
Night of the Creeps (Blu-ray)
Black Devil Doll
Night of Death!
Logan's Run (Blu-ray) [eventually on sale]
Study in Terror, A (1965)
Hunchback of the Morgue (1973)
Lady Medic, The (1976)

That's to the end of the year. About a DVD (or set) every week from here on out.

Christ, from the time I was 15 until I turned 19, I was holding decent paying jobs and living at home, just blowing hundreds of dollars a month on VHS tapes, DVDs, and CDs. While it was fun at the time, priorities eventually step in and make you budget your money a bit more wisely.

That's exactly where I'm at now. Just got a house and it's full of crap I bought as a kid when I had money and no expenses. Now what the fuck am I going to do with this shit? I try to buy less now because I turn around and see hundred and hundred of other DVDs I need to watch before I should even think about buying anything more.

I can't even justify getting Netflix there's so much crap I own I need to watch.

Believe me, I was not taking anything too seriously! (I also was not trying to be serious)

For me the priorities haven't fully captured my attention. I would love to be saving more for a house, but it's hard for me to plan for such a long term goal when I get distracted by new things so easily.

As a short term goal though, I have just finally dealt with storage issues - with a new set of bookcases for all the books I own (I somehow miscalculated though, and they only hold the books I have, with virtually no room to grow...) and new CD cabinet and DVD storage towers. Now if only I had a bigger apartment to hold more storage for the stuff... or a house :(

Sad but true. It doesn't help that they keep recommending me a different version of something I just bought - "You just bought a hardcover copy of Lord of the Rings, you might be interested in the paperback edition of Lord of the Rings."

So I see this recommendation after a week or two, and don't remember that I bought it recently, and think: "Of course I would love to buy Lord of the Rings! I love that book. Let's see if they have it in hardcover. They do! Buy! Buy! I can start reading it as soon as I finish the book that I just bought and am still reading (but don't remember the name of at the moment)." Le sigh.

Under DVDaf again. It wasn't there 10 minutes ago.

I'm super shocked at this one only because I just bought the rare Prism tape last week. Everything that is rare and only on VHS that I touch turns to disc format! First Slaughter High, then the originally scored Happy Birthday to Me, then The Internecine Project!

It really is bittersweet since I finally find these OOP flicks, only to have to update to disc almost immediately after. Funny.

The Stepfather
The Strangeness
Weekend Murders
Happy Birthday to Me Re-release
House on Sorority Row Special Edition
Scream

It's an enchanting gringo movie with an european air to it. Actually, I own a barebones DVD with horrid image quality but it will be released by Code Red soon. It's better if you don't read anything from the story. A blind buy for you would be the best thing, if you like eerie horror that is.

I stopped buying CD's last year, not saying I don't still buy music, but I basically just download from itunes. There's only one album I'm purchasing this fall and that's Muse's new album. In terms of movies, I basically limit myself to blu-rays now (unless it's a must have that will probably not see a blu-ray release for years, if ever) so that cuts down on a lot of impulse buys. I've decided to stay with my parents for the rest of college, so that means no rent and very few bills until roughly June 2010. I think the only thing that is going to set me back is my next tattoo, a half sleeve on my right arm. Other than that I think I'll be pretty well off this Fall.
