Those of you who have Comcast's "Fearnet" channel, they are playing what is touted as the director's cut of Return of the Living Dead part 3. It is not in HD, nor widescreen, but it looks great and is the uncut version.......Larry

Someone told me the only reason it never came out on DVD unrated was because Lionsgate didn't have a DVD quality master of the unrated print. Yet they can throw out discs like NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2, SLAUGHTER HIGH, etc. with quarter inch masters - video sourced - but not this one?

Guess in a way it's a good thing but looks like they have a DVD master quality copy now...

Very cool show, and the last of the series I truely dug. I always liked Brian Yuzna's modest budgeted genre film's. He's a cool guy in my eyes, and as of late, I hope the lovely Spaniard city of Barcelona is treating him well.

I always liked ROTLD3 much more then the kiddie-fied Part 2, although Part 1, which has only ever looked good when I breifly had Monsters-HD (dammit how I miss that channel) is sitll my favorite of the series. And sadly, I don't currently have a digital cable outlet that gives us FearNet right now. Ah well, life shall go on ...

I actually have Fearnet with Verizon Fios TV but it doesnt list Return of the Living Dead III as one of the on demand movies. Ill have to check later this month and see if it shows up. Comcast and Verizon must get different movie selections on demand from Fearnet.

I actually bought the unrated VHS from my local mom and pop rental place when they sold it years ago. It's been one of my favorite movies since I first saw it in the mid 90's. Definitely my favorite ROTLD sequel, and it was nice that it completely shifted gears and still managed to be amazing.

I agree that watching the rated cut in pretty depressing.

I doubt we will ever see a good version of 3 on R1 dvd. If they didn't bother with it after putting out 4 and 5 then I doubt they ever will. I haven't watched 3 in ages so I am not sure I will still like it now. I think the whole thing with the piercing might be a little cheesy and dated now.

Watched this a day or two ago.

Forgot how much they cut out of this, it's gonna be hard going back to the rated DVD.

Yea I used to own the unrated cut on VHS and years later got the dvd and immediately noticed there was a lot cut out. Been waiting for an R1 uncut dvd ever since but never happened.

I also remember watching this once after the O.C. came out (yes I watched the whole first season and I liked it, I must admit) and finally realizing why that money hungry lady on the O.C. looked familiar to me- she is the girl in ROTLD3! Made it kinda that much more fun to watch again <:

Actually it not so much cut...more altered.

Most of the scenes are there it's just they either don't have close ups of the gore, or they don't have any at all.

The scene where the first zombie attacks the guard, in the rated version he picks his head up to growl at Julie and Curt, there's even an extra shot of their reaction and there's nothing in his mouth. In the unrated print, you see him drop a piece of brain matter from his mouth on the ground.

There's a few more scenes that are like that and I believe the only scene that's trimmed is when Julie kills one of the gang members. The rest is all there, just altered.

Cut/altered..whatever you wanna call it, there's a pretty substantial amount taken out IMO.

I saw both cuts pretty recently, so off the top of my head i noticed...

Strapped down zombie in the beginning-Fingers bitten off, the camera holds on the shot longer and shows more. More of the zombie bashing the bio suit guy's head into the glass.

The one you already mentioned about the first guard being attacked and brains eaten.

Clerk getting shot by the cops in the van- shows a more graphic head shot with exit wound, and you see much more of julie eating the clerks brains.

Undead clerk attacks police officer, shoves crowbar into his head...the rated version didn't show this at all, so this could be considered a cut.

um....Shows alot more of Julie and the self mutilation near the end in the sewer, and basically every shot you see of her cutting herself throughout the movie was trimmed a couple of seconds. MPAA not fond of Self Mutilation!

More graphic close up of julie carrying the fat guy's head and spinal cord.

Julie biting the gang member's chin off, didn't see any of this in the R cut.

Longer shot and close up of Julie eating Riverman's brains....I THINK that's it, and that's just off the top of my head so......

The first time I saw this film was the unrated VHS. I eventually ended up purchasing the uncut R2 DVD, which appeared to me to have even more footage than the unrated VHS. I had seen it about three times on VHS and I think I noticed more gore in the R2 DVD. Am I just crazy?

Depending where you got the unrated version (wheather R2 or from the internet) was a PAL format (meaning running at 25fps rather than the regular NTSC 24fps) which has a fater running time and a higher sound pitch.

I actually liked this sequel, and I've only seen the r-rated cut. Sounds like I'd like the unrated one.... (really didn't like 2, 4, or 5).

Here's hoping for an R1 release, or even PAL, so long as it's in print!

I checked Fearnet on Demand with FIOS again today and it is on there now- so fyi if you got fios you should be able to check this out now- and it is the uncut version (just wish it was one of the hd selections)
