View Full Version : Contest: TRICK'R TREAT at HORROR DIGITAL

10-31-2009, 07:46 AM
Okay, so I said the FRIDAY THE 13TH contest would be the last of the month, but at HORROR DIGITAL we like to go that extra mile. Put the cherry on top, if you will. What we've got are 3 copies of everyone's favorite, TRICK'R TREAT, on Blu-ray, and all you've got to do to get one is tell us: What's your favorite horror anthology entry?

Okay, so I said the FRIDAY THE 13TH contest would be the last of the month, but at HORROR DIGITAL we like to go that extra mile. Put the cherry on top, if you will. What we've got are 3 copies of everyone's favorite, TRICK'R TREAT, on Blu-ray, and all you've got to do to get one is tell us: What's your favorite horror anthology entry?

Whether it's an episode from THE TWILIGHT ZONE or TALES FROM THE CRYPT, or a segment from CREEPSHOW or TRICK'R TREAT, let us know your favorite and why and you'll be entered to win.

Make one post in this thread starting today, October 31st (Happy Halloween, by the way!) and you could be one of the three lucky winners when they are randomly drawn on Friday, November 6th.

For me, there's nothing like getting in the horror movie mode than watching a short arc story that usually draws on some sort of urban legend or familiar horror concept. Horror anthologies are campfire stories struck to film, so tell us your favorite stories and let's make this a Halloween thread to remember!

Segment #3 ("It's a Good Life") from Twilight Zone: The Movie. Always been a favorite of mine.

10-31-2009, 08:22 AM
"Lover's Vow" From "Tales from the Darkside : The Movie"

Why, you ask? a few reasons :

1. As an art guy, I was reasonably sympathetic to the main character and his situation

2. The guy only wants to share everything with the woman he loves, and loses EVERYTHING in the process. Personally, I've found that's the way most relationships turn out, lol.

3. The design of the creature is TERRIFYING. I saw this film when i was 7 years old, and the first shot of the creature, in the alley and cloaked in shadows, haunted me for MONTHS....Fast foward 15 years, and I pick up the movie on DVD and pop in it with the girlfriend for a nice movie night....UNTIL that damned creature showed up. I INSTANTLY became a frightened 7 year old again. Since then, I've watched the movie dozens of times, but the creature design still amazes me and creeps me out at the same time.

Beyond all of that, it's just a perfect,. EC Comics style story, with a nice narrative and a perfect twist. Absolutely oustanding.

Probably The Crate from Creepshow would be my personal favorite. I love it mainly for nostalgia reasons, and because it works so damn well!

10-31-2009, 08:35 AM
I'd have to say Creepshow. Love the flick.

10-31-2009, 08:48 AM
Lover's Vow from Tales From the Darkside:The Movie.

10-31-2009, 09:10 AM
My choice is "Kwaidan". The scenery, the tales, the colors... Completely eerie and unusual.

10-31-2009, 09:18 AM
All of Creepshow is great.

10-31-2009, 09:24 AM
this show is very dear to my heart and very nostalgic......

"Are you Afraid of the Dark" episode 79-81 "The Tale of the Silver Sight" (Parts 1-3)

10-31-2009, 09:31 AM
Mine would be "Blind Alleys" from the 1972 Amicus film Tales From the Crypt. I love the buildup and clever methods as the blind residents plot their revenge against the cruel hospital director.

10-31-2009, 09:32 AM
Ide have to say the Christmas episode on Tales from the Crypt.Very underated gem.

10-31-2009, 09:56 AM
The Raft from Creepshow 2. The only good part of that film.

10-31-2009, 10:16 AM
The Raft in Creepshow 2 (if that's the correct name of the segment, with the black plastic pool killing people :))!

10-31-2009, 11:19 AM
Definitely AMELIA from TRILOGY of TERROR. An absolute classic.

Mine would be "Blind Alleys" from the 1972 Amicus film Tales From the Crypt. I love the buildup and clever methods as the blind residents plot their revenge against the cruel hospital director.

I just saw this movie for the first time this past week and have to say that this story actually had me squirming in discomfort - something most modern horror movies can't seem to pull off. VERY impressive for a movie of this type from 1972!!!

10-31-2009, 11:27 AM
This is tough, but I'll go with Lonesome Death of Jordy Verill just 'cause I like saying 'lunkhead'.

10-31-2009, 01:06 PM
I've always really liked the scaling the wall of a skyskraper episode from Cat's Eye.

10-31-2009, 01:53 PM
"Something to Tide You Over" from the first Creepshow. I always loved Creepshow and Ted Danson is one of my favorite actors.

10-31-2009, 02:58 PM
I have always been a big fan of the first story from The House That Dripped Blood. Maybe because I watched it one of the very first times I ever was home alone late at night as a kid (I think I was 9 or 10) and it scared the shit outta me.

10-31-2009, 03:10 PM
My favorite is from Creepshow 2. The Hitchhiker ("Thanks for the ride, lady!")

10-31-2009, 03:57 PM
My favorite has to be The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill from Creepshow. You got pro rasslin' , Stephen King's goofy overacting and BINGO O'MALLEY!! WHOO BABY!!

10-31-2009, 04:01 PM
creepshow, something to tide you over....leslie neilson is a freak in that.

Mutilated Prey
10-31-2009, 04:03 PM
The Crate from Creepshow is my favorite, followed by The Raft from Part 2.

10-31-2009, 04:33 PM
Creeepshow for me, specifically "Something to tide you over". I Saw this at about 12 years old and couldn't help thinking over and over how horrible a way to die that would be. It was also the first time I'd seen Leslie Nielsen play a bad guy even though he was still funny in a real evil way. :p

10-31-2009, 04:40 PM
The "Talking Tina" episode from Twilight Zone.

10-31-2009, 04:54 PM
The Black Cat from Two Evil Eyes might just be my favorite.

10-31-2009, 05:57 PM
The episode "Trick or Treat " from the series Tales From The Darkside. I watch it every Halloween, it's just great. "You're getting warmer......" .

10-31-2009, 05:58 PM
I really liked THE EYE From John Carpenters BODY BAGS. Tobe Hooper does a great job and Debbie Harry and Mark Hamil it was a blast to see them having so much fun. I also thought that THE BLACK CAT from TWO EVIL EYES was a blast to watch. Twisted and disgusting too!! Great Halloween stuff.

10-31-2009, 05:59 PM
The House That Dripped Blood is my favorite as well. All 4 stories are good and the cast is sensational: Denholm Elliott, Peter Cushing, Joss Ackland, Christopher Lee, Jon Pertwee, and Ingrid Pitt. But I'd lean to Method For Murder as well. Elliott is really sensational in that one. Dominic!

10-31-2009, 06:29 PM
It's close between "Lover's Vow" from Darkside and "The Crate" from Creepshow.
I think Lover's Vow getst he edge as it scared me when I was a teen. The Crate freaked me out, but was more fun and somehow didn't seem as real.
The first time I watched Darkside I didn't understand movies were make believe and thought I had just watched those guys die in the opening. When the one dude yelled for help, it just sent chills all through me I can almost still feel everytime I watch.

Honorable mentions go to:
Jody Verrill
The Raft
Werewolf Concerto from Tales from the Crypt
Reluctant Vampire from Tales.

10-31-2009, 06:29 PM
My favorite is "Drowned" from the film Necronomicon.

It was directed by Brian Yuzna, Christophe Gans and Shusuke Kaneko.

Harry Warden
10-31-2009, 06:52 PM
I love Creepshow as my favorite anthology. I have to go with "They Are Creeping Up on You" -the last segment with E.G. Marshall. It's not only creepy, because of the bugs, but E.G. Marshall was so funny and outstanding in this segment. The Crate is a very close second as was the first segment with corpse returning from the grave for his cake. I love anthology films, but Creepshow is by far the best.

10-31-2009, 07:26 PM
I always loved The Crate in Creepshow.

Lone Wolf
10-31-2009, 07:39 PM
The Crate from Creepshow.

10-31-2009, 07:41 PM
I am not a huge fan of horror anthologies but after seeing Trick R Treat last week I loved the Halloween feel and it was a fun movie. I would say it ranks at the top for me now with Creepshow a close second. So the particular segment in Trick R Treat I liked the most? Hmmmm- probably the portion with the kids and the Bus.

10-31-2009, 08:51 PM
Creepshow (1 and 2 are equally good)..specifically Chief woodenhead story

10-31-2009, 10:39 PM
Up until about a week ago, I would have said something from Creepshow, but I recently watched the original Tales from the Crypt and LOVE the Santa segment with Joan Collins!

10-31-2009, 11:30 PM
Gonna go with one no one expects: An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge from the final season of The Twilight Zone. I saw it for the first time in 11th grade in a very cool sci-fi/fantasy class that I was in, and it's stuck with me ever since.

Kodiac Jack
11-01-2009, 12:48 AM
Oh gosh. Probably the Lonesome Death of Jordy Verill from Creepshow. METEOR SHIT!

Body Boy
11-01-2009, 01:42 AM
I'd laugh if I won, cuz I own no Blu-Ray. :D

The Raft segment from Creepshow 2.
Oh wait, I do love Bobby from Dead of Night.

11-01-2009, 02:00 AM
I will go with "Father's Day", from Creepshow!!!

Nathan Grantham is a BOMB ASS ZOMBIE!!!!

11-01-2009, 02:08 AM
I have a lot of favorites...but one I didn't notice listed here would be the "Inside the Closet" episode of TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE.

11-01-2009, 03:59 AM
My favorite is "Invaders" from the Twilight Zone. I first saw it when I was a teen. The entire episode is very unsettling and I was blown away by the ending. I saw it again about a year ago and it brought back the same feelings.

11-01-2009, 05:15 AM
im gonna go with "The Drop of Water" from Bava's Black Sabbath. i love Bava, but I never actually expected his films to scare me. That old lady? fuck! she scared the shit out of me. one of the purest and best pieces he did.

11-01-2009, 06:43 AM
"Something to Tide You Over" from Creepshow. Ted Danson in an actually frightening piece? Who woulda thought?

11-01-2009, 07:14 AM
Tales from the Crypt - The Thing From the Grave

Tales from the Crypt comic featuring the story "The Thing From the Grave" was my very first horror comic book. When I saw they made it into an episode with the very sexy Terri Hatcher... that was it for me. My favorite episode.

11-01-2009, 07:56 AM
Oh man, this is a tough one. Of course Creepshow is great, and I love that 3rd story in Bava's Black Sabbath, and who can forget the 'Bishop of Battle' segment from Nightmares? (well, I can't).

But I think I'm going to pick the 'Blind Alleys' segment from Tales From The Crypt. The one starring Patrick Magee as one of a bunch of neglected residents of a poorly run home for the blind.

11-01-2009, 09:12 AM
Another vote for THE RAFT from Creepshow 2.

11-01-2009, 10:23 AM
The Christmas segment with Joan Collins from "Tales from the Crypt", just awesome.

11-01-2009, 01:14 PM
The Raft is still my favorite.

11-01-2009, 08:26 PM
I have several favorites actually. The first one that comes to mind is The Crate from Creepshow. Everything about that story just works. I've always really liked They're Creeping Up On You from Creepshow too. I never hear anyone mention that one, but that one always creeps me out.

Two of my favorite Tales From The Crypt episodes are Television Terror (the whole episode just works on so many levels) and Carrion Death.

Last but not least I have to mention The Raft from Creepshow 2.

11-02-2009, 01:17 AM
I don't know if Kolchak the Night Stalker is considered a anthology show. If it is I am going with it, my favorite episode of it is the Spanish Moss Murders. I used to watch it when I was a kid. If not I will go with the first Creepshows the Crate.

11-02-2009, 04:27 AM
The crazy doll from Trilogy of Terror

11-02-2009, 05:02 AM
Television Terror from Tales from the Crypt would be my choice as well. Though I also really like Bigalow's Last Smoke from Tales from the Darkside a lot.

Vincent Pina
11-02-2009, 03:32 PM
I liked the "Memories" segment from the Asian anthology "Three". I wish Kim Ji-Woon would make something creepy like that again.

11-02-2009, 03:47 PM
I'm going with Creepshow 2 - "The Raft".

11-02-2009, 04:09 PM
I think i will go with the Zuni doll episode from Trilogy of Terror. It's creepy, tense and violent. Karen Black gives a great performance including an iconic final shot.

11-02-2009, 05:26 PM
"The Crate" from Creepshow because it's quite possibly the darkest and creepiest of all the stories included!

11-02-2009, 05:50 PM
The Crate
The Raft
Television Terror
And All Through the House

"The Ventriloquist's Dummy" from the Tales From the Crypt TV Series.

Simply put, its an all star cast, Don Rickles is the man. And it's one of those episodes that keeps you guessing till the end. Plus, when the ending is revealed, its a HUGE payoff! One of my favorite episodes of the entire series.

11-02-2009, 06:53 PM
I love "The Raft" from Creepshow 2, but I'd have to go with the Zuni doll episode from Trilogy of Terror. That segment scared the crap outta me when I was a kid.

11-02-2009, 07:48 PM
My favorite anthology entry, at least for today, would be the Tales from the Crypt episode "The New Arrival." It is perhaps the most memorable short-form horror I have ever seen. Scary, moody, great performances, a killer ending, and infinite replay value=a huge win all around. And in general, it just creeps me out in a way few things can. Can't put my finger on exactly what it is, exactly, but I like it.

Second place would probably go to "The Cat from Hell" in Tales from the Darkside: The Movie.

11-02-2009, 11:49 PM
Deadtime Stories, best sex scene ever, i think its the little red riding hood part, whichever part involves sex in a tent

11-03-2009, 12:07 AM
The Raft from Creepshow 2 rocks so much

Nasty Nate
11-03-2009, 02:41 AM
Trilogy Of Terror- Zuni Fetish Warrior Doll

11-03-2009, 02:41 PM
I love the first story with Joan Collins in Tales from the Crypt (1972). I just love the whole thing. I don't want to spoil it, but the ending is just so great.

11-03-2009, 02:46 PM
The "Crate" From Creepshow.

11-03-2009, 07:35 PM
I rented Trick 'r Treat the weekend before Halloween. Great movie! I watched it a couple of times, and it held up really well to repeat viewings.

I'm going to pick The School Bus Massacre Revisited from Trick 'r Treat. I love the un-PC backstory, the prank itself is really cool, and I really like the characters of Rhonda and the blonde angel girl who's the ringleader of the pranksters. It's very creepy and atmospheric.

Honorable mentions: Surprise Party from Trick 'r Treat, and The Crate and They're Creeping Up on You from Creepshow.

11-03-2009, 08:06 PM
my fav has to be the twilight zone Nightmare at 20,000 Feet ....Shatner on a airplane and a gremlin...classic

11-03-2009, 11:09 PM
Creepshow has gotten plenty of love here so I will say Twilight Zone the movie. I love the one with John Lithgow freaking out over the monster on the wing of the plane. "Want to see something really scary ?"

11-04-2009, 05:49 PM
the first segment of Dead of Night, when the guy buys the car and goes back in time

11-04-2009, 07:48 PM
the drop of water - Black Sabbath :D

11-07-2009, 01:48 AM
Thanks for all the submissions. I just got TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE: SEASON TWO in the mail and am anxious to fire up even more anthology style horror!

So who won the 3 Blu-rays of TRICK 'R TREAT? Well...
