Although not a horror film, Trouble in Mind is an excellent film from Alan Rudolph that was finally given a release from Shout Fact. It's one of the best from the 80's with excellent rendering of a place where
'the future meets the past in a different place'. Rain City. Kris Kristofferson, Lori Singer, Keith Carradine, Genevieve Bujold, Joe Morton and Devine (in his only male role)? Excellent soundtrack too.

A Gator Bait double feature would be amazing! They're probably still owned by Paramount though, the VHS was from Paramount.

All of the release rights for their films (Gator Bait 1&2, Rocktober Blood, The Single Girls, etc) have been reverted back to the Sebastians. And since they've gone born-again they've had little to no interest in releasing anything in their library.
I wouldn't hold your breath.

Gator Bait got me fired from one of my first jobs.
I was doing the video rentals at Kroger's Grocery store when they were trying that shit out. So one Friday night I close the store, but I'm on to open it at noon the next day.
So I grab either Gator Bait or GB2 and take it home to check out, figuring it's a perk and no harm. The next day my manager sees me bring it back and fires me for theft. I explain "look, I closed last night, no one could rent while closed, and I'm opening now, what's the big deal". He was a dick and it was a big deal, fucker even called the cops on me. At least they had common sense and didn't arrest me, just escorted me off the property.
After all this all I can recall of the film was thinking that chick is hot and this movie sucks, but I'd be down to revisit it all these years later.:)

The Video Rental department at Kroger- one of the worst jobs I've ever had. Not only did we have to deal with lines of impatient screaming assholes (we were located in a very rough part of town), we also had to wait on the cigarette and the perfume/cosmetic counter as well. Absolutely horrid. Many Krogers managers are dicks. I'll verify that!

"Here's something cool: Shout! Factory will release The Unknown War: WWII and the Epic Battles of the Russian Front on DVD on 5/24 (SRP $39.97). Narrated by Burt Lancaster, this is a classic 1978 documentary series on the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union, featuring tons of rare combat footage filmed by Soviet camera crews on the front lines. All 20 episodes will be included on 5 discs, along with 2 featurettes (Interview with Rod McKuen - who adapted the screenplay and composed the score for the series - and Analysis by Willard Sunderland - a professor of Russian history). I've never seen this before and am fascinated by that period in history, so this release sounds pretty interesting."

Do you have a link? The amazon pre-order for DYNAMITE/BLACK OAK CONSPIRACY was re-confirmed as canceled by Cliff Mac (http://www.avmaniacs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43983&p=869925&viewfull=1#post869925) as recently as 2/9. That also re-confirmed the Action Pack Collection (http://www.amazon.com/Cormans-Action-Packed-Collection-Georgia-Dynamite/dp/B004IB04RG) that has Georgia Peaches, The Great Texas Dynamite Chase, Smokey Bites The Dust. The last I have read Black Oak Conspiracy is being paired with Savage in the Fall.

I like Grotesque too. It's almost like two films in one. The first half is a lot of fun. The second half is completely different, and does drag a little at times.
I really hope the "theater" ending is included, whether it is attached to the film or as an extra.

I remember hearing that their Corman blu-rays weren't selling as well as they'd hoped, so they were being very selective about what they release on blu-ray. They seem to be biased toward the science-fiction genre though, I'd rather see stuff like The Slumber Party Massacre collection, Race With The Devil, and Twice Dead.
If they already released it on DVD, I think there's not a very good chance they'll double dip. Though they did go back and do The Stepfather, which was announced just days after I bought and opened my DVD.

Back in late 2010 Cliff had made it sound like the BDs were under performing, but it appears they have been picking up and that is why we are getting "Women in Cages" on blu. I wouldn't hold my breath that The Evil, Suburbia, or Eat My Dust will get a BD release. I've begged for SPM to get a BD releases and I've heard time and time again that Shout doesn't think the films will look any better in HD (which is BS). It's been made very clear that Shout has little respect for Corman's horror titles (other than Piranha).

My understanding is that Shout! Factory said the element are in dire condition, with no originals left. So there's nothing better out there to put on Blu-ray, at least that they know of. Considering what they are putting on Blu-ray, I think we can take them at their word.
They could upconvert like Media Blasters has been doing and call it HD if they wanted to. It's a popular series, I'm sure they'd make a buck or two from that. But they have more integrity than that and I say that's only a good thing.

Oh man, I don't think that's a fair statement to make at all! Do you expect a business to bite the bullet and eat the expenses just in the name of respect? Do you think Roger Corman himself would ever do something like that? Of course not. Shout! has to do what is necessary to remain solvent and if that means forgoing a blu-ray release on certain less popular titles then so be it. Their Corman DVDs are all leaps and bounds beyond anything any other studio has done with his films, and that includes MGM's Midnite Movies releases.

The comments were more along the lines of grainy/cheap film stock and that most of the shots are dark. Here's direct quotes from Brian Ward:
"In other cases, it's that the movies look AWFUL when pristine. Trust me when I say that you don't want to see the Slumber Party Massacre trilogy in high-def. The Corman films were never designed or shot to be such good quality, so to make them look UBER-nice would be a serious disservice."
"Dark horror films, for example, tend to look considerably worse, due to the amount of grain from the faster film stock used and elements meant to keep hidden in shadow are now visible."
He also mentions the quality of the film elements as a primary factor why some didn't get HD releases but doesn't specifically assign that to SPM. I think it's more likely that they don't think SPM would sell as well on BD without adding the inferior sequels and they know they wouldn't make their money back from creating 3 HD transfers. I also don't think Cliff is a slasher fan. But that's my just my opinion.

I'm not expecting Shout to do anything that doesn't make them money but in reading the comments of some Shout employees it's clear that they are less enthusiastic about the (80's) horror titles than the exploitation and sci-fi stuff. I'm not knocking them, just giving my impression. It might be their personal tastes or it could be that they have data that says the (80's) horror titles won't sell as well, I don't really know. I love Shout and have bought all but two of the their Corman releases.

Not a slasher fan? You are misinformed. My BD and DVD collection is full of slasher films.
I am a slasher fan, but as mentioned, I need to release titles that don't lose money.
If I wanted to create new HD masters of the poor condition film elements on SPM, It would cost roughly $40,000... then another $10,000 to author the Blu-Rays.
There is no way we will sell enough copies to cover those costs.
As mentioned in another post, we need to make money, not lose it.
I would have loved to do a BD of SPM.... but not if it loses us money.
The comments were more along the lines of grainy/cheap film stock and that most of the shots are dark. Here's direct quotes from Brian Ward:

WOMEN IN CAGES is a test to see if Corman sales can pick up.
No, what is clear is that we have to fiscally responsible in this day and age when DVD and BD sales are sliding.
Sure, they'd look better... you'd see the grain even better.
These were very low budget films. They look rough around the edges on DVD, so on BD, it will just be more obvious. I'd love to put every title on BD, but we just can't do it. Authoring is twice the amount... replication of discs is twice the amount.
I have nothing but respect for all of Corman's films.... and he has been very happy with what we have done with his library.
I'm sorry not all the fans can feel the same way as Roger.

I read that they are going to start splitting up the larger seasons beginning with Cat Dog (Season One, Volume One). Hey Arnold and The Angry Beavers should come out intact though, after these they will only do 2-disc releases.

that really looks fantastic, i can't wait! it's this kind of treatment that the MST3K movie deserved, and i was so disappointed by the lackluster treatment it received that i never bothered to pick it up. the four episode box sets are too expensive, i find, but more releases like this would be very much appreciated.

Not to mention that the extras from the Rhino release of Manos MST3K is ported over! My only complaint; I wished the original non-MST3K version Manos could've been restored.

I saw parts of Manos last year on Elvira's newest Movie Macabre and while it looked like the same print it seemed like a new transfer. It maybe worth checking out the reviews of that when it eventually comes out on DVD to see how it measures up.
Same may be true of Santa Clause Conquers the Martians, which I saw broadcasted last Christmas (on a local Chicago show) from a print that was definitely different from the MST3k print. I'm curious if that was used by Elvira as well.

I'm not a big exploitation fan, but having really enjoyed the recently released Women In Prison triple feature I figured I'd give this one a try. Plus, the whole Roger Corman/Shout Factory/blu-ray equation was hard to say no to.

I ordered some bootlegs from ioffer and the quality on some were beyond awful, tracking issues and sound going in and out and then the seller forgot to send one of the movies.

This thread does end up being a big tease for me as well. I get excited when I see it's updated and deflated when its for cartoons or classic tv.

Ehh, well since talk in this thread has decreased so much, I'll blab semi-inconsequently:
Did anyone else snag a copy of Streets / Angel in Red? Because, as I flip through all this Roger Corman collections (with their double features and triple features and 2-discs and 4 movie packs) on Amazon... this is the only one that seems to have disappeared completely as soon as it arrived. Of course, I actually shelled out $21 or whatever for a copy from a New & Used seller when there were about 3 copies available. But... there's only 1 more copy they have sitting anywhere. That's not... routine, is it? Is this packaging / these movies that obscure? (And, was I the only one who showed any interest in them? Both movies were pretty atrocious, of course, but I say Angel in Red was a little better- less pretentious. Sorry, Katt Shea- I still love Poison Ivy. I do. Really.)

I am extreamly pleased (and shocked) that H2 & H3 will receive impressive blu-ray releases. Too bad they're $30, but I guess it's worth it for the content.

This just isn't turning out to be a cheap Summer/Fall. Bond, Kubrick and Indiana Jones are going to have to wait. Should Criterion release "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou," "Moonrise Kingdom" and Fincher's "The Game,", I'll be broke.

Shout's like Criterion, they're an indie label that doesn't offer huge discounts.

For a second there I thought it was the Japanese anime version but it's the live action show. I'd forgotten this. As I recall Henson's team did some good work on this too.

I preordered the two HALLOWEENs, and will grab TERROR TRAIN, but THE FUNHOUSE just doesn't cut it for me. I caught it in 35mm a year or two ago and it still didn't do anything to raise my opinion. I would've been much more excited if they grabbed PRINCE OF DARKNESS instead!

yeah the funhouse could have used a little more blood or gore or nudity.. its like something was missing. and all the scenes with the little brother were more creepier than the horror in the funhouse. But iam still getting it. and you were lucky to see a 35 mm print of it..

I pre-ordered Halloween 2 & 3 on blu and intended on getting everything on their slate so far. So psyched for Deadly Blessing! I've been waiting for that one for many years! The only one I haven't seen so far is Death Valley. Anyone see that one? Is it worth the purchase?
I'll be getting They Live of course. I have a bootleg of the Carpenter/Piper commentary, so I wonder if they are going to port that one over or if Carpenter will do another one.

I doubt that he'll do another one. I remember they tried to get him to do another for Halloween, and he said that once was enough. Maybe he was just tired of Halloween by that point. I will definitely be picking up They Live. and wouldn't mind an extensive documentary as an extra.

John Carpenter movies don't seems to have too many deleted scenes. Aside from the TV version of Halloween (was that even him or the producers idea?) and the 10 minute segment cut from Escape From New York, I haven't seen much else in the way of deleted scenes for his other films. If any cut footage exists for THEY LIVE I'd love to see it. I always thought the film felt kinda short, sort of unfinished.

Terror Train and Funhouse extras announced!!!:
http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=9077
"In October, Scream Factory, the horror-thriller offshoot of independent film distributor Shout Factory, will bring Terror Train and The Funhouse to Blu-ray. Both titles will be making their North American Blu-ray debuts.
Terror Train:
Directed by Roger Spottiswoode (Tomorrow Never Dies) and shot by cinematographer John Alcott (The Shining), this 1980 chiller transplants the slasher movie to America's railways, as a group of college kids having a New Year's Eve party on a chartered train find themselves the targets of a deranged psychopath with an all-too personal grudge. "Scream Queen" Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween) leads a cast that includes Academy Award-winner Ben Johnson (The Last Picture Show), Hart Bochner (Die Hard), and magician David Copperfield.
The Funhouse:
From the mind of filmmaker Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre) comes this cult 1981 shocker, which centers around Amy (Elizabeth Berridge, Amadeus), a teenager excited about her first date with the hunky Buzz (Cooper Huckabee, True Blood) at the local carnival. However, Amy and Buzz unwittingly witness a grisly murder in the carnival's funhouse, an act that forces the young lovers and their friends into a brutal fight for survival. Sylvia Miles (Midnight Cowboy), William Finley (The Black Dahlia), and Kevin Conway (Gettysburg) co-star, and Academy Award-winner Rick Baker (An American Werewolf in London) provides the film's gruesome makeup effects.
Scream Factory presents both pictures in their original aspect ratios - 1.85:1 for Terror Train and 2.39:1 for The Funhouse - with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks. The respective discs also contain the following supplements:
Terror Train -
Commentary with Roger Spottiswoode
Still gallery
Theatrical trailer and TV spots
A limited edition - less than 500 copies made - 18" x 24" poster featuring newly commissioned Terror Train artwork if the Blu-ray is purchased at Shout Factory's website
The Funhouse -
Commentary with Tobe Hooper, hosted by director Tim Sullivan
Theatrical trailer
Radio and TV spots
A limited edition - less than 500 copies made - 18" x 24" poster featuring newly commissioned Funhouse artwork if the Blu-ray is purchased at Shout Factory's website
Note: Terror Train is a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.
Both Terror Train and The Funhouse are expected to street on October 16th."
EDIT: They are available for pre-order on Shout!'s website (which I found out there that more extras will be announed so stay tuned! ;) )

I haven't seen it since I was a kid so I'm looking forward to it mostly from nostalgia. I'm a sucker for all those 70s and 80s movies set in the desert and this one fits perfectly. I don't think it's especially violent but I saw it edited for TV. Imagine "Duel" meets "The Hitcher" with the kid from "A Christmas Story." That probably sounds awful but I remember it being entertaining.

A Shout "insider" posted on another forum that all the extras haven't been finalized for TERROR TRAIN or FUNHOUSE so there's more to come. A Hooper commentary on Funhouse will probably make me double dip. Arrow did a fine job with their Blu-ray but it'll be nice to have that commentary.

Me too! Season 3 was just released, so I imagine we'll see it sometime this fall or winter. I'm loving these Nickelodeon releases!
I see that they are releasing Steve Niles' Remains on blu-ray and DVD. I'm curious if they will be distributing the other Chiller TV movies as well. I've been dying to see Brian Keene's Ghoul, but unfortunately I do not get Chiller. I would blind-buy a blu-ray of that in a heartbeat!
