Here is some horror news of a different kind - our very own Jeremy Lunt, who has been reviewing here with us at the site for over ten years, is about to add "screenwriter" to his credit. He's got a creature feature that's just been picked up, and we're pleased as hell to be breaking the news here on the site. Anyone who has read his reviews on the site knows he can command the pen..um, err, keyboard, so his new movie, UNCAGED, is definitely going to be one to watch.

Included is the press release below, as well as poster artwork that fans of the genre should really dig.

BELASCORP TO GO APE OVER NEW SCRIPT

LOS ANGELES, C.A., Apr. 17 2010 -- Belascorp, a Hollywood-based film production company, announced today that it has acquired the feature film rights to the screenplay "Uncaged" by writers Jeremy Lunt and Sean A.X. Carr.

Belascorp CEO and film producer Mark Belasco ("The Sinatra Club", "Polycarp") also on Saturday announced a merger with Marie Adler of Adler & Associates Entertainment, with "Uncaged" being their first production together. Weve recently and repeatedly been approached by distributors looking for creature features and 'Uncaged' certainly fits the bill. But its appeal reaches far beyond that. Its an extremely logistically sound picture that will read as a much larger film on screen. Jeremy and Sean wrote a smart script that seamlessly combines the killer gorilla genre from the golden age of Hollywood with modern horror elements. Were certain 'Uncaged' will draw horror names, as well as talented actors that may not have ever seen themselves performing in a horror movie. Adler and Belasco will serve as executive producers on the film. In addition to executive producer duties Marie Adler, a financier, real estate broker and former CEO of American Financial Lending Inc., will make her noncommercial acting debut playing a supporting role in the picture.

Set in 1934, "Uncaged" is the story of the Somes clan, an affluent family that has gathered on their private Maine island to celebrate the 70th birthday of their patriarch. But tragedy strikes when, on the night of the gala, the old man's pet gorilla escapes from its cage, killing him and rampaging through the house. Cut off from the outside world, and unable to kill or capture the beast, the family has no choice but to dig in and wait for help to arrive in the morning. But as the vicious ape decimates their ranks one by one it becomes obvious that there is more at work than just an escaped animal, and that someone amongst the family members may know much more than they are telling! A homage to the old dark house mysteries of the 30's and 40's, and to such cult classics as "Gorilla at Large" (1954), "Uncaged" is tentatively scheduled to begin shooting later this year.

That is awesome Dude!! Can't wait to see it! Movies like this with crazy animals scares the hell out of me and I love it! Monkeys in general are freaky so a gorilla is more scary to me! Is the gorilla going to be an 'actor', digital or a human in a gorilla suit? Just curious:confused: I hope there will be additional features of how the movie is done too. I love that in a movie when it comes out on disc and I can see the creation of the monster or commentaries from performer about making the movie.:)

Definitely an ape suit. There are extremely high quality gorilla suits floating around Hollywood right now, including the one that appeared in the recent OLD DOGS. That was one of the reasons why UNCAGED was chosen over several other projects that we proposed, because we didn't need to pay anyone to build and design a monster costume or create a CGI creature.

And yes, we do plan on creating some special features for the home video release!

So when is this coming out exactly?

Jeremy

Well, without going into too too much detail, the project is still alive and well and very much ready to go before the cameras. We've revamped the script so that it now takes place in Panama (as Puerto Rico is very likely going to be the shooting location) and have done quite a bit of work preparing for it to go into production. The hold-up is that the producers have had another film in development simultaneously, a crime thriller based on the inside-the-mafia expose JOE DOGS: THE LIFE AND CRIMES OF A MOBSTER. The idea is to shoot both films back to back in Puerto Rico (as JOE DOGS takes place mostly in south Florida) and take advantage of the generous tax incentives there for motion picture production. JOE DOGS is a little bit of a bigger project though, and it's been taking longer to pull the pieces in place, but I'm told we're getting close.
