Noticed there wasn't a thread on the upcoming Lionsgate horror flick, THE LAST EXORCISM, produced by Eli Roth and Strike. It comes out August 27th. Here are some stills:

Anyone excited for this? Looks like it should be good...it's been awhile since Lionsgate has pushed a horror flick like they've done this.

I'm interested in it, but I wonder what he'll blame this on if it fails? Fans, used DVD sales, downloads, poor popcorn at the concession?
I'll like how they're pushing it as if it's his next directorial feature. I've had several people come up to me and ask me about "Eli Roth's new movie." That said, it looks neat and I want to check it out.

They screen it for the market croud here (Cannes). Couldn't see it. From horror I only saw Zombie Woman of Satan. Wouldn't recomend it.

"What an excellent day for an exorcism." This movie looks promising, but the trailer for Emily Rose looked as though it had potential also. We shall see...

It's a good premise, but I don't know why they felt the need to make it in the handi-cam style of Blair Witch.

Horror movie The Last Exorcism earned a PG-13 for "disturbing violent content and terror, some sexual references and thematic material."
This year's first PG-13 rated Theatrical Horror movie release. Kinda hard to believe.

Tell me about it! It's the same fricken' trailer over and over for all these horror films.
Someone on Youtube has been re-edited classic films into this same damn approach. Sick of it!

This approach must work. People still go to the theaters to watch movies. Since this Karate Kid flick made more than $12.00, I've given up trying to understand anything that Hollywood does.

No one on here has seen the movie yet? Very surprising. I watched it yesterday and enjoyed it. There have been a lot of people online up in arms over the ending, which, well sudden, I enjoyed. It had a steady stream of tension throughout and the actors were all great. Probably the best new horror film I've seen this year.

Saw this last night and well...meh. It has a lot of genuinely creepy moments, and the young girl is a surprisingly good actress, but the movie does not hold together very well. It doesn't make much sense, and the movie brings up several questions that are never answered. Good idea, poor execution.

I don't know what's more surprising, the fact that it is the number 1 movie in America, or that it has almost grossed as much as Scott Pilgrim vs The World already. I haven't seen either film yet, but I can't believe SP has done this poorly.

Just saw it this afternoon. I guess my thoughts would pretty much mirror those of Matt89. It wasn't bad, pretty good even but it's not a film i'm going to go out of your way to tell people to watch.
I was surprised by how well acted the film was and also how effective the 'documentary' style was (when I heard about that I my expectations went way down low). I really enjoyed 3/4ths of it.
As for the ending ... Had it been the start of act 3 or simply the ending to some other film, I probably wouldn't have a problem with it. As it is, I don't feel it is a satisfying conclusion to the story I watched before. So I have my problems with it, but I really like everything before it.

I actually thought the ending saved the movie for me. If they had ended it with (this is not really much of a spoiler, but I'll give a warning anyway) Cotton and the crew leaving after the diner, I would have been quite disappointed with what had taken place. As it stands, it was an interesting and exciting ending.

I liked it. I think we need to have more movies that don't explain away everything. I agree that there were many unanswered questions but I was good with that. The best was the look on the people's faces when the movie ended. LOVED IT!!! :)

I have to shake my head at this. Just...shake. My head. Even if this were an attempt to improve upon Exorcism of Emily Rose... who even wanted to see that movie anyway? Who here is literally so scared of Satan - and thinks possession from demons is real - that they give a shit about exorcisms? I don't see the justification for the existence of any movies about exorcism, after The Exorcist. And even then, that film was mostly just entertaining because of the special effects, creepy music, and shock scenes. Perhaps if this movie, or Emily Rose, or even Audrey Rose, were about something more than believing in spiritual evils... that could explain the film being sold to people other than the already converted believers. What the hell is scary about an exorcism? What can they show us that Linda Blair and William Friedkin haven't, and even if there's a bunch of new stuff- why should we care?
I'm interested in it, but I wonder what he'll blame this on if it fails? Fans, used DVD sales, downloads, poor popcorn at the concession?
That is the fuckin' funniest thing I've read here in almost 2 years!

I enjoyed this movie. They took a different approach and I thought it was quite cleverly done. I think that I would have preferred the original title, Cotton, better since everyone will think that this will be like the Exorcist. Anyway, the ending isn't confusing at all... surprising that some people can't piece things together even when it's that simple.

Did this chosen title for the film dictate that they would market it with stills of "little twisted, hasn't slept in a month girl in dirty night-dress who looks almost exactly like Emily Rose"?

It has been awhile since I saw this, but the more I think about it the more I dislike it. First of all I will state the obvious the fact that it simply "The Emily Rose Project." I normally don't have problems with the fact that movies aren't original, but beyond this the overall structure is just so flawed that it keeps coming back to me and annoying me
The film's documentary structure is just wrong.
- Based on the ending...this is the footage found in the camera of a murder victim. Why in the name of hell would this cult that was protecting their identity allow this footage to be found by anyone? You kill the camera man...and then you destroy said footage if you don't want it found. But no, this film has been edited together nicely...complete with titles over characters as they are introduced...as well as "stinger music cues" during the "scary parts". The fictional doc would have you believe that someone finished the film...who?
-If you want to argue the point that the cult was eventually caught and this footage was put together after the authorities brought the cult to justice it makes the structure even more skewed...because why in the world would a documentary about this cult save the identities of the villains until the end? How many documentaries have you seen with "shocking twist endings"?

Unlike the Blair Witch Project I don't think they said this was discovered footage, I just think you were ment to abserve the movie through the lense of the camera, to be a part of what is happening. The movie started as a edited and crafted documentry but when they went on the road the documentry editing stoped and only real time footage was used.
I thought this movie was well done and left me wanting more as it ended much to quick just like the Blair Witch Project. Not the ideal ending but very unforgettable.
I just finally saw this tonight and really enjoyed it. Definitely one of the better horror movies of 2010, and probably the best I've seen so far from 2010.

Oh no, the fucking Lady Gaga bullshit thread starts again!!
I saw this the other day and I really disliked it.
Aside from it's blatant ripping of other movies, so little actually happens in this movie. I kept thinking of that gag in Family Guy where Brian takes a blind guy to see Blair Witch and is describing what's going on - "nothing's happening... nothing's happening.... it's over. A lot of people in the audience look pissed." Some really bad acting at points too.

Thought it was one of the better fake documentary style horror films. I think Eli Roth's love for the genre was evident, there was a scene that reminded me of the obscure bigfoot slasher film Night Of The Demon in the way it was filmed and orchestrated.
Enjoyable for a rental.

I loved the last five minutes. The rest was a bore. Good acting from the two leads though (Ashley Bell and Patrick Fabian).

Oh man, I found this one to be absolutely terrible. What a colossal bore. The ending (which wasn't much of a surprise) might have been good if the rest of the film would have been at least half-way entertaining.
I honestly didn't like any of the characters, and found much of the acting talent quite poor indeed.

Finally caught this through the library.
It was better than I expected, but I expected nothing and knew nothing going in. That said, I liked the faux doc with the guy proving how full of shit he and others like him are angle. That part worked. Then it drug ass until the end, and just when it starts getting good, ends. Glad I didn't pay anything but the gas to get to the library and will probably never bother with it again, but it was worth watching the one time.

You know I liked this movie. I found it to be entertaining which is just it was supposed to do. What I can't understand is I'm hearing about all these references to Blair witch & none to Paranormal activity which came out around the same time.

Wow, cool that you liked it so much. I myself found it pretty medicore. But, since you mentioned it is a 'found footage' film, I found that to be one of the bigger plot holes that kind of annoyed me. How did the footage get edited, and 'found', if the last person to have it was the cameraman, who got killed by one of the more devout cult members. You would think they would have destroyed the footage instantly. Not edit it themselves and distribute it, or, be so careless with it, it gets found later on. That was a sloppy choice of direction imo, and could have easily been avoided if they just let the cameraman get away.

That could be a question for a possible sequel.
