Has anyone else been having problems with their HATCHET blu-ray? On mine, the special features only play in the upper left 1/4 of the screen instead of filling the entire frame. I swapped it out at Best Buy for another copy and it's still faulty. A friend checked his copy (with a different tv and blu-ray player) and it's doing the same thing.

It'd be pretty obnoxious if I have to keep my DVD just to be able to watch the extras with proper anamorphic enhancement.

I haven't watched the Hatchet blu-ray, but I actually had the same problem with another Anchor Bay blu-ray: Henry Poole Is Here. The movie played fine, the issue was only with the extra features.

I have not encountered this problem on another blu-ray, even with other Anchor Bay titles.

I have the same issue with Jennifer's Body, and traded it in 3 times before figuring it had to do with my player (the disc was fine on the PS3 in Target when I tried it there, but still small box for me at home). Haven't tried my Hatchet yet, but if it's happening to you, I'm 99% sure it will happen to me.
Good to know I'm not the only one this shit happens to though!

My Blu-ray plays everything normally.

Yep, just as I thought. What player do you guys have? Time for me to get rid my piece of shit I think. Even better, it locked my computer up and won't play any features in there. Loads fine, but play a feature and all I get is black screen and "prohibited" for any button I hit except the fucking X in the upper right.

Correction, loaded once, now won't even load in comp.

I really wish there was some logical reason for this fucking bullshit.

Hatchet played fine for me on all players but Frozen wouldn't play in my Oppo, but it did play fine on my PS3, Laptop, and Sony. Go figure. All players have the latest firmware installed.

does your player have a slot for a sd-card? my friend bought one and had similar problems untill i read that a 2 gig sd-card is required for some blu discs

My Blu-ray plays everything normally.

Same with my Hatchet Blu-ray. No playback problems of the film or features.

It does, I'll have to try that. Why does it need the card though? I'll try sticking in my blank adaptor from my micro card and see if that fools it, then I won't have to buy one.:)

it has something to do with your player not having enough memory for buffering ,java, and other stuff needed for playing blu-rays .

My player is a Pioneer, I'm not sure what model or anything.

Even though I had the problem with Henry Poole, I can confirm that both Frozen and Jennifer's Body (both mentioned above) played without any problems on my player.

It probably has to do with firmware updates or something.

I had no problems with mine either. I have a first generation sony s300. The load times are slightly longer than usual, but everything played perfectly.

Empty sd adaptor didn't do anything, but if it really needs the memory that's no surprise. Don't want to mess with my micro so I'll grab another sd tomorrow and hope that works. Sounds like it should.

A spanking new and formatted (on the BD player) sd-card does nothing, both Hatchet and Jens Body are still top quarter screen for all extras.
Do I need to put anything on the card like firmware or something?

My player is the cheap-ass Magnovox NB530MGX, the $99 one at Wal-Mart.

I stand corrected and now have way more questions. On Jennifers Body, the delted scenes are now full, but the gag real is still quartered. The making of is full, but way off center. There's about 7-9 inches of black on the left side of the screen (I'm on a 67" set), and from the logo it's obvious it is off. As I keep trying the things over, I now get the gag reel full, but the making of is now half way across the screen (full, but missing the whole right side). This keeps getting weirder and weirder.

Everything on Hatchet was quartered, and now I get to look forward to this on Frozen which I just picked up also?
Could it have anything to do with my TV settings? There's various settings for the HDMI in, currently on "auto" but i could set it to 1080i, 1080p or 1080/24. Do I need to fuck with that maybe?

Fuck this piece of shit, what players do you guys without problems (Rhett, Hellbilly, Kat, Jason, Hook) have? I'm getting a real player!
Sucks I wasted 10 bucks on the sd-card, but my bedroom dvd player just shit the farm anyway, so I'll move this pile of crap upstairs and get a real player for the HD.

Anything from Sony is usually very reliable. I personally love the Oppo, fantastic player although somewhat on the pricier side.

I would say stick with Sony. Depending on what features you want out of the player (Wireless, streaming, pandora, etc.), you can get these at great prices, especially when they transition to newer models and clear out the previous models.

There were reports of clearance Sony models being available at some Target stores for around 100 bucks, that may be something to look into. I would maybe look at the AVS forums or maybe blu-ray.com, people tend to post their findings there of clearance finds.

LG and Samsung which I'm sure are nice, seem to be ones with higher reports of issues and compatibility issues.

I've got the LG BH200 that plays both Blu-ray and HD-DVD, a PS3 and an LG GGW-H20L Blu-ray Writer/ HD-DVD ROM drive for my computer. Both the LG ones are now out of production because of the HD-DVD compatibility.

I'd recommend just getting an entry level Sony player, as above. Can't go wrong with those.

Mine is a Pioneer BDP-51FD.

Both Frozen and Jennifer's Body played without any problems. I don't own Hatchet on blu-ray though, I'm satisfied with my DVD of it for now.

I have three Blu-ray players right now, a Sony and a region-free Sherwood (Momitsu clone). Generally, I'll play Region A (or all region) discs on the Sony player which hasn't really given me any problems. The Sherwood player will play almost anything.

I also use a LG H20L Blu-ray/HD-DVD Rom drive in my computer.

Hatchet and it's extras play fine on my Panasonic.

I did notice the movie audio seems unusually loud though.

So Frozen (and all extras) worked fine but Hatchet continues to be quarter screen for all extras.

These issue exist only for special features right? Hmm I was toying with the idea of going blu-ray but fuck it. After hearing about all this bullshit I think I'll hold off. My brother's blu-ray sometimes pixilates the screen too during main features.

Yeah, all these issues are extras only, the films and most extras are fine. Plus I'm on the cheapest player possible and others with better players have no issues.
The pixilating on your borther's BD may be tiny dust specs or smudges on the disc playing side. BD's are harder to scuff than dvds, but smudges or dust show up way more (as pixalating I've found) as the info is crammed in tighter. Thankfully they are easier to quick clean than dvds, no worry about my shirt scuffing them.
Have you seen any great quality BD's in action yet? It's hard to go back to SD after you have.

He's shown me an array of selections from some James Bond titles to the recent War of the Worlds remake (best quality I've seen yet). The last one we watched together was Pandorum which was also really slick looking.

I'm in Melbourne, Australia and just bought a multiregion Toshiba blu-ray player which hasn't had any issues with any discs except this one. I'm also getting the special features squished over to the left of the screen. It's been reported that this also happened with some Fox titles like A Fistful Of Dollars, Avatar, the Alien boxset, etc...so I tried those and didn't have any problems. I'm just wondering whether it's a bad batch of discs as this is the only disc I've had any problems with. It's also weird that Special Features isn't available when you select the Pop-Up Menu.
