With LOST BOYS: THE THIRST representing yet another years removed return for a series (along with the other sequel, THE TRIBE), let's take a look at way-late sequels and which one represents your favorite. The criteria for the poll was at least 9 years between sequels.

My hands down favorite "way-late" sequel is:

Psycho II (1983)

How's 23 years late grab ya?

The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999) wasn't too bad.

Another 23 year wait!

Psycho II was a decent follow-up. Meg Tilly was hot.

Cmon now - Texas Chainsaw Massacre II! It was a winner right off the bat with the bridge scene. Add Dennis Hopper taboot - winner!

"Lick my plate ya dog dick!!!!"

If the criteria wasn't 9 years I would have said other for Halloween 4 :D

Psycho II is my favorite. Great supporting cast along with another fine performance by Anthony Perkins. In particular, Dennis Franz was quite the scumbag in this movie.

Also love Texas Chain Saw Massacre 2 and Exorcist III.

Exorcist III - I really liked this film. Terrific acting, especially George C. Scott, one of my all time favorites, and very creepy.

I went with ExIII. I was trying to think of what I would stay tuned in to if it came on television. Psycho II is decent too. I have to say I didn't dig Phantasm II very much.

Psycho II, easy, though Phantasm II is a strong second choice.

Psycho II. Exorcist III was pretty damn good though. Had one of the best jump scare scenes in any film.

Psycho II, with Mother of Tears a second place choice for me. I haven't seen most on the list though.

Even with the slapped on ending, I still had to go with Exorcist III. Easily may favorite of all the Exorcist movies. The crisp dialogue, rich monologues, fantastic performances, odd characters, and Blatty's unusual yet evocative editing style all make this one of my favorite horror films, period.

My vote goes to TCM2 with Psycho II a very close runner up.
Psycho II is probably the better film of the two, but I can watch TCM2 over and over again as its dark humor really strikes a chord with me.

yeah, you might be right. Jennifer is the hot one (circa The Getaway), and Meg the cute one.

It was a tie between Texas 2 and Phantasm 2, but ultimately went with Texas, just because of Bill Moseley's performance as Choptop.

FYI

This thread didn't start out as a poll thread. When dave13 & I posted there was no poll. And rhett's initial post wasn't worded like that. Unless I'm mistaken. I think the initial idea/post was to come up with your favorite belated squeal.(that's why my comment about "23 years") I think it would have been fun to watch people remember some "way-late" sequels. Kinda like trivia or something. The poll takes away from that.

Just my humble opinion.

Good. At least I know I wasn't going nuts or something. :)

Imo the other way had more thread life potential.

When a poll gets started you have to first create the thread and then make a poll after, so there is always a slight delay in getting the list up, especially when there is one with as many submissions as this. If it's in the "Official Polls" sub-forum, then it'll have a poll, that's how it works!

I think guessing the length between movies would have been fun too, but I'm not sure if that method would have been longer lived than this, since there isn't a whole lot more to discover.

It's been years since I've seen Exorcist III. I don't really remember much about it but, seeing all the love it's getting, I'll have to check it out again.

I thought the same thing a few years back. Just to offer a dissenting viewpoint, I didn't really see what the big deal was. My memory had been of a pretty dull movie, and that was what I saw the second time around. For what its worth.

Psycho II followed closely by Phantasm II and TCM II. The rest on this list range from mediocre to just terrible.

This wasn't always like that though? I think to remember in the old days the whole thread would appear, but only after you finished the poll as well.

I remember liking Exorcist III very much, so I voted for that. That said, I felt tempted to vote for Mother of Tears. Was it artistically inferior to Inferno and Suspiria? Yes. Was some of the acting from the extras cringe-inducing? Absolutely. Were the CGI effects on a Xena: Warrior Princess level? Sadly, yes. Did it entertain me? It did.

My sentiments exactly. And though it's not on the list, I would have chosen Return to Oz. I know, it's not a horror film, but goddamn did that film ever scare the bejeezus out of me as a kid!!

Voted for Psycho II, out of the list. But I consider 4 years as being belated enough, so my vote would always go for Sorority House Massacre II and Hard to Die.

And, then there's always Troll 2.

Psycho II totally!!! When younger I thought it was miles away better than the original one. Now I've given the value Hitchcock's deserves and consider the sequel an excellent work in 2nd place.

I tremendously enjoy Psycho II and Phantasm II. But I went with Exorcist III. I know it's a minority opinion. But I find it much more frightening and interesting than the original. I really hope we get to see Blatty's original cut at some point. It's obvious that the released version was compromised by studio interference.

Fans should keep an eye out for an upcoming book, "The Evolution Of William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist III: From Concept To Novel To Screen." It apparently will chronicle Blatty's ordeal with Morgan Creek in great detail.

TCM2 is the easy pick for me. One of the the greatest comedic horror films of all time. "Nam Land!"

I saw Psycho II at the drive-in when it came out and don't remember anything about it, so I always figured it wasn't any good. Maybe I need to revisit it now so many years later.

Phantasm II: I like it better then the original. Even though it does feel more action orientated. I've watched countless number of times love it.

Phantasm II. Was tough though, I also love TCM2 and Exorcist 3. Nothing beats a hero ex ice cream truck driver doing battle with undead dwarfs. Now, all we need is Part 5 ... or maybe a remake, seeing as everything else has been remade ...
