Anyone get a chance to see this trailer yet:

I admit that the found footage genre of horror is a little oversaturated lately, but this definitely has me intrigued.

yeah, it looks like its got some real potential. the problem with a lot of these found footage pictures is a lack of payoff. the buried body is really cool, and i hope there's an interesting story behind this, not just some minor infection that turns people crazy and then you have 28 Days Later on the moon. that would be a wasted opportunity.

This is the only mainstream horror film I'm looking forward to and I have fingers crossed they don't fuck it up.

Agreed, I was pretty interested in the trailer until they started playing the 'infection'/going crazy angle. I just seems kind of played out lately, and it would be a shame if thats basically what the movie boils down to...

TWC has apparently been playing musical chairs with the release date. First it was slated to come out last week, but it was pulled off the schedule a month before and pushed back to January 6, 2012.

Now that Final Destination 5 moved up to August 12, TWC has moved Apollo 18 out of 2012 and back to this year, in FD5's old August 26 spot.

This wasn't bad but overall I guess I was expecting a little more. The ending is what really took this from mediocre to semi worth while. The actors just didn't seem believable as every once and a while they spout out some unnaturally "clever" catch phrase. I guess I would put this on part with The Last Exorcism as far as found footage films go.

I thought it was worth a view, doubt I will buy a copy as I don't see any replay value in it.

I always hated this kind of "found footage" fare since Blair Witch. At least "stuff" happens in this film. Not bad at all. It helps that I snuck in to watch it, so I got to see it for free. I don't think I would have been upset if I did pay to see it, either. Definitely worth the cost of a rental at least.

Another cool thing is that the trailers do not give away any significant developments.

Saw this over the weekend. Not a big fan of found footage films, but this had to be about the worst one I've ever seen. Boring, predictable, and lacking in horror. Did not like any of the characters either. Disappointing as the premise had potential.

I thought it was a fun movie but I love the lost footage movies.

Possible spoiler about nature of the "found footage"

would have been better if it had just been shot straight as we are led to believe 16mm film was processed, printed and uploaded to earth.

Did they even have 16mm back then? It would have been panavision wouldn't it? Or is that the same thing?

ha!

yea, they've had it since the 30's or 40's. Panavision is just a brand of cameras w/ branded lenses. It is commonly thought of as a cinemascope process but isn't necessarily. Another part of the film was old electronic video, that made sense.

Yeah but would they have that kind of tech on the space suits?

Oh, they're holding 16mm cameras in hand they aren't attached to space suits or anything. The only cameras built in are the video ones built in the their ship.

I haven't seen this yet but would cameras work in space?

No. Cameras don't work in space. That's why there are no photos or films of Leonov's space walk, the Apollo 11 moon landing, or any other notable moments in space travel history. ;)
Of course cameras work in space. My understanding is that there are some required modifications but the cameras used by astronauts function primarily the same as earth-bound cameras.

APOLLO 18 is hitting Blu-ray & DVD on December 27th from Anchor Bay. Here are the details:

ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT AND DIMENSION FILMS LAUNCH APOLLO 18 ON BLU-RAY™ AND DVD

http://horrordigital.com/vb3forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=5941&stc=1&d=1320171499

Sci-Fi Thriller Heads To Retail On December 27th!

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Anchor Bay Entertainment and Dimension Films announced today the Blu-ray™ and DVD release of the “terrifying” (Fred Topel, CraveOnline.com) and “chilling” (Hunter Daniels, Collider.com) sci-fi thriller, APOLLO 18.In the same vein as such blockbusters as The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, the film unearths alleged lost Department of Defense footage to construct a riveting story of the events that unfolded during this covert mission to the moon. Full of tension and suspense, APOLLO 18 blasts into stores on December 27, 2011 with an SRP of $39.99 for the Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and $29.98 for the DVD.

Officially, Apollo 17, launched December 7, 1972, was the last manned mission to the moon. But two years later, in December of 1974, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon.

The APOLLO 18 Blu-ray™ and DVD bonus features include an audio commentary with director Gonzalo López-Gallegoand editor Patrick Lussier, deleted and alternate scenes, alternate endings, among other bonus features to be confirmed. Note: Special features are subject to change.

Hmm, something about this one didn't do it for me. I don't know if it was the progression, the lack or any real scares or tense moments, it just felt very bland and without thrill throughout, I was quite bored. Wasn't much of a payoff. I also echo the question of how the footage got back to earth, if the ships collided with each other in space, let alone get found by some joe-schmo and uploaded to a blog.

I guess it was mildly entertaining as a rental — if you can get past the bad science, the incredibly boring first 25+ minutes, and all the continuity errors and script flaws.

The basic idea had far more potential than the mess this film turned out as. The entire "found footage" trend crap should have been scrapped altogether.

I didn't think it was all that bad of a flick - entertaining for a rental for sure. A few jump scares and enough intrigue to keep me interested.

As for Aoiookami's spoiler, I would have gone for Alternate Ending 4 - would have made the footage recovery much more plausible, but whatever.

I just watched this on Showtime, and thought it was up there with Mr. Hush as one of the most excruciatingly boring films I have seen recently. It was just so... fucking... boring. At least it was only 75 minutes, because I don't think I could have made it any longer.

Could you imagine seeing this film in a theater? I would have been pissed having wasted the ticket money on this garbage. Thank goodness I didn't waste money on a blind-buy either. Definitely dodged a bullet there.

I just don't understand how this is deemed worthy of a 3,000+ theater release when gems like Trick 'r Treat, Tucker & Dale, Triangle, etc are dumped straight-to-disc. Even regarding PG-13 films, movies like Apollo 18 or Haunting Of Molly Hartley can play in theaters across the country, while a surprisingly decent PG-13 flick like The New Daughter is swept under the rug.

Hollywood seriously needs to go fuck itself. Hard.

Rant over.
