Woohoo... day 1 since I also missed out on the original...
Funny thing is, I remember when you could buy the original Goodtimes DVD for $3.49...
HA!
* edit- I guess it was VCI & not GoodTimes. Oh how the memory fades...

One of my very favorite made for tv horror flicks! Very glad this is getting another release. Classic Media usually does a good job, at least they have with the titles I have bought.

It came up on the first page when searching.
And it actually originally came out through VCI, which I remember had said they were working on re-securing the rights.
Hen's Tooth will just port over the existing disc, but it is not a bad thing in this case as far as I remember.

Surprised Hen's Tooth is still in business. They are awful in terms of quantity of availability. As soon as all 100 copies are gone it will quickly be OOP again. Hopefully that doesn't end up being the case.

Of course, right after I broke down and the OOP VCI disc. Typical. Well, I can just wait for a good sale at Deep Discount or Amazon before picking up the new one.
Two questions:
- Anyone know if there was any reason for the different covers for the VCI release? Is any one cover particularly more rare than another? You can view the different covers at the amazon link below:
http://www.amazon.com/Gargoyles-Cornel-Wilde/dp/B00000IO3W/ref=sr_1_4?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1300688057&sr=1-4
- Has anyone else ever noticed or commented on how much Bernie Casey's makeup resembles Calibos from the original CLASH OF THE TITANS? Was there a common makeup artist on both films? Did CLASH just steal the look? It's always struck me but I've never seen anyone else mention it.

I don't know if one is rarer than the other, but they aren't any different in terms of features and what not. VCI did something similar with the original CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS! disc, they altered the artwork on that one slightly and the disc art as well. But that disc never changed until the 35th anniversary edition came out.

Nice! I own the old VCI disc, but I'll definitely be picking this up for that commentary.

Great news that this is finally getting a new release!
I bought the VCI release as a birthday present for a friend back when it first came out, but neglected to pick up a copy for myself. Luckily I was able to borrow it from him now and then whenever I got the urge to watch it again. Of course I'll make sure to pick up my own copy this time around.

Ditto - I wonder who is participating on the commentary?

You are the only other person whom I've ever heard mention this. They really do look a lot alike.I think it's the lantern jaw, kind of resembles the Green Goblin in the old SPIDER MAN comics.I don't know if the CLASH guys were influenced by it or not but I've always said that the strongly resemble each other.Tim Curry's character in LEGEND also has a similar face, the jawline is very close.

YES! I noticed this when I saw this movie a long time ago. I never made the Calibos connection though but I see it now - something about the nose too. The beaked gargoyles reminded me of some of Tim Curry's minions in Legend too.

I think it's because I was such a huge CLASH OF THE TITANS fan as a kid (I even had a Calibos T-shirt!) that the first time I saw GARGOYLES I assumed there had to be a connection. But you guys other examples are correct as well. It's probably more an unconscious similarity between demon-like characters with the exaggerated furrowed brow, devil horns, hooked/pointed nose and sharp teeth.

Anyone order this from somewhere and have it ship yet? Preordered it on amazon and it hasn't shipped. Just wondering if it's actually been released yet.

Status on Amazon currently says that it ships within 10 to 12 days, which just sounds like a back ordered title. I ordered mine from Amazon and am still waiting for it to ship.

My copy from Axel shipped on the 6th. I haven't received it yet, but that isn't out of the ordinary.

I can definitely confirm that the new DVD's transfer is far better than the old VCI DVD. The new transfer is Progressive encoded, and clearer and sharper in definition.
I haven't had a chance to listen to the audio commentary yet, but that's the only bonus feature on the disc.
Hen's Tooth do include a Chapter Insert inside the case.

Director Bill Norton's audio commentary is kind of a let down. He rags and takes shots at his own film. Didn't sound to me like he has high opinions of his film at all. I was expecting a kick ass commentary track kinda disappointing. Still it's worth a listen for us nostalgia fans.

Yes, it is progressive encoded.
But this is the wrong thread to ask the question in...
