I read on gorezone.net that craven and cunningham finished doing a commentary for it and that it was an uncut print. I hope it is released soon i really want to get it. There will never be a true uncut print because some fottage was lost. That is what is says in David A. Szulkin's book "last house on the left: the making of a cult classic, the book is great there is so much info on a small movie.

The French DVD (along with the Dutch release) are currently the longest versions available (they're identical).
David Szulkin is working with MGM on their release so it should have some nice stuff, although I honestly do not know how much footage will be contained in it. As for Cunningham and Craven... who the hell cares what they have to say? Give me a David Hess commentary instead. He's hilarious and absolutely despises the film.

Yeah, I remember the big stink when they originally announced they would be releasing it last year only rated R and barebones. People went nuts and thankfully MGM stepped up to the plate and decided to cancel that and please fans with a uncut SE. Last thing I read was that they found good sources from a couple of places and pretty much had the most intact, uncut version they could find. Funny too, that Craven recorded commentary when even he has said the longer non-R versions go too far.

it could be worse the fuckers at troma could have done the commentary:p
Yeah... Hess must really despise it. That's probably why he's still selling signed copies of the soundtrack and signed stills of all the publicity shots....
If he really said that he hates the film, then it's like someone saying they hate sex: fine, but where would you be without it?

OH, I can't wait for this release to get rid of my shitty VHS copy. Well, I'll make sure it's the same cut first. The minute anyone hears more about release dates, etc...please post!

Oooh... That is a STRONG point you just made there WJB.
And I think you are right - last year David Hess and Gunnar Hansen toured various festivals signing autographs and stuff...
I also read an interview of both of them in Dark Side magazine. Hess seemed not to hate the film THAT much though...

I think Hess hates Deodato's House on the Edge of the Park way more than he hates LHOTL.

Does anyone know the release date of the MGM uncut DVD release of this?

Man - I saw Hess & Hansen at a fest here - and he said he thought Last House, and House On The Edge Of The Park were classics & that he was honoured to have been a part of horror movie history. He didn't stop talking about himself & the contributions he made. I actually got tired of hearing him name-dropping so much.
And, he made a comment that the Alex & Krug characters didn't actually do anything wrong, and that is was the rest of the human race who were wrong!
I couldn't work that bit out!
Back to the point - will the new disc of Last House have that notorious long gutting scene in there?

Besides Nomads, Last House On The Left is one of my most anticipated DVD releases of this year... :)
