Do you usually purchase online or from a local store? Are you a stickler for bland new or do you sometimes go the used route?
I would say I buy about 70% online and 30% from local stores and from that total I now buy maybe 40% used via either flea markets, video stores or online stores like secondspin or off ebay.
I've never worried to to much about buying used, I don't really have many problems with scratches and if the case is worn I can already replace it. For the amount I've spend over the years I just want to get it a good price.
What about you guys?

Since I live where culture, as far as shops go, doesn't exist beyond the mainstream most of my buying is online. Probably 75% online, 20% at conventions, and 5% local.

New shit mostly online, esp. anything slightly obscure or horror. No stores around here don't carry much anymore. Most old stuff either at used stores or pawn shops now.
Been on a pawn kick the last couple weeks, and it's been pretty sweet in terms of finding rare OOP stuff, most of which I wanted to see much more than turn a dime on. I did plan to turn The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover into cash, but watched it and loved it, so I'm keeping it until BD happens, if ever.

Online, the High Street stores and supermarkets here in the UK always want a joke price for recent DVDs or Blu-ray. I purchase mostly from Amazon/their business partners, Play, or Ebay. I always consider used items and provided the trader states they are in very good condition, order without hesitation. Only once have I received a disc of unacceptable quality - that's in about ten years.

About 85% I buy online. Traded in a lot of my dvds for Blu-rays. The rest I buy at local stores or out of town specialty shops on road trips and vacations.

I buy about 98% online now, mostly new unless it's something OOP. I do still buy some used stuff from the local Hastings when they have those B1G1 promos.
Unless it's for exclusive releases, I hardly even bother buying from brick & mortar stores these days. It's almost always far cheaper online to begin with.

I used to buy at 800.com and DeepDiscount and DVDPlanet. Now, it's all about used record stores for me.

I'm currently obsessed with obtaining Hammer films so it's Amazon, eBay and trading for me. There aren't any stores in my area that have them. I buy all of my blu-rays from Amazon. I'll go to Best Buy only if there's an exclusive or a great sale.

90% of my stuff I buy at Amazon or eBay. I do enjoy going to Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc and picking up more mainstream titles. 99.9% of my DVDs/BDs were bought brand new--I think I have 2 previously used DVDs in my whole collection (and one of those was given to me/bought by someone else).

80% percent of my buying is from mainline stores like wal-mart/BB/Future shop. 10% is online Amazon/Ebay & 10% from used stores when I can get down to them.

I buy about 80% online. Mostly because the deals are better as well as the selection. I'm willing to buy used depending on the price.

99% online since the selection and pricing are better. I pretty much only buy on Amazon (80% used) but I tried iOffer recently and was pleased with my purchases.

iOffer is great for DVD's that have never been released (especially old TV shows) or dubs of DVD's that are long OOP. I've only had one negative experience, but it wasn't that big a deal.

Probably 75% brick & mortar and 25% online. I prefer to have the actual DVD in my hands to inspect before I buy it - that way there's no chance of floater discs, broken cases or obnoxious security tape to rip the artwork if the artwork isn't sitting under the plastic just right. I'll pay a bit extra for retail if I can have those assurances. (Yes, I'm anal!)
I will buy used if the disc is in good shape and if a title is OOP and only available second-hand. I've been lucky with the second-hand sellers I've dealt with on ebay and amazon. Haven't used ioffer but I'm at the point where the titles I want aren't getting legit releases so I'll have to go bootleg.

I'd say 95% online, maybe more, very rarely do brick & mortar unless there's a great sale, and only buy used if the title is OOP. Got a copy of Daughters of Darkness on ebay at a time when it was OOP and an empty case arrived in the mail. When I contacted the seller, he apologized and immediately sent the disc out. That was the closest I ever came to a bad used experience.

This is hilarious, cause I'm the same way about the security tape. I absolutely despise when the sticker tears at the insert and leaves that white remainder. Actually, that's my biggest pet peeve--when the insert is damaged in any way. I know, it's a sickness.

I'd like to buy my stuff locally but most of the time when I got to a store for a movie I'm disappointed because they don't have what I want and usually have a pretty crappy selection in general. I'd say 95% online, 3% at conventions, and 2% in an actual store.

LOL, I'm glad I'm not the only one who'd obsessed. I've actually used Sharpies to try and fill in those horrible white tears.
I will say it seems like a lot of the indie DVD labels either don't use those security strips or they've found a glue that won't rip the artwork off. I seem to have the most problem with the major studio releases.

I have no problem with dubs as I have plenty from trades and copying rents and whatever, but I have never and hope to never pay for one. I have hit up ioffer people with trade requests but never bought from there. A couple ones I asked actually have traded with me.:)
Now I need a new computer to copy blu's.

60% online at Amazon, and 40% in stores. The brick & mortar stores that I buy from are in Pittsburgh, about 65 miles south of me. I have a list and every few months I head southbound. Locally, I buy from Walmart and FYE. There isn't any Best Buy or Target in my town, and they both suck anyway. Most obscure titles I find in the Burgh or online at Amazon.

I do that as well. I like my DVD's looking as close to new as possible, those tears really make them look like shit, not to mention hard to sell if you need too. The worst is when it tears the cover and it's a color that you don't have:)
Online all the way, unless it's an exclusive or it's a ridiculously cheap price, like Black Friday. No amount of nostalgia or pickiness is going to make me pay $10-15 more on each film I buy.
