DREAD CENTRAL (http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/44716/creature-proves-blood-blood-and-gets-new-one-sheet-and-trailer?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+DreadCentral+%28Dread+Central +News%29&utm_content=FaceBook): What's in a name? Apparently a lot as the latest movie about a badass swamp monster getting ready to maim everyone in its way is up to moniker number three, but it looks as if this one will be sticking!
Creature (formerly Blood is Blood and Lockjaw) from writer/director Fred M. Andrews stars “True Blood” co-star Mehcad Brooks (aka "Eggs"), Serinda Swan (TRON Legacy), Sid Haig (The Devil's Rejects), and Daniel Bernhardt (The Matrix Reloaded).
The flick revolves around a group of family and friends who, while en route to New Orleans, are sidetracked in the Louisiana bayou and encounter a monster named Lockjaw who is revered by the locals as a god. When will people ever learn to just stick to the damned road? Natural selection I guess!
In the movie Brooks will play a Navy Seal back from the Middle East; Swan will play his fiancee, who is abducted to be the creature’s bride; the Captain himself, Haig, will play a man named Chopper (who, knowing Sid, is likely ready to take a bite out of someone's ass himself); and Bernhardt will assume the role of the creature.

Looks like it´s gonna be a sweet mix between a typical 80:s slasher and old school Roger Corman rubbermonster movies :)

Loving that they went with practical effects, creature suit, rather than CG. Still, looks a bit questionable quality wise, might check it out.

I believe this is a limited release. Wish it was wide, love to see this in a theater.

My God, I just a saw a commercial for this movie! No way. When I heard it was opening "everywhere" on 9/9, I didn't really believe it, 'cause it's a guy in a monster suit movie, a movie that looks like a hark back to 80s horror cinema, those kind of movies don't get wide releases. It's all CGI monsters these days. Or, so I thought. Man, was a wrong. Hope it comes up here.

I saw a poster for this at the theater last night when I went to see Shark Night 3D.
I'm really surprised to see something like this in theaters. I can't wait to check it out, I will definitely have to make time to go see this next week.

I'm pleasantly surprised that this throwback-looking flick (and I mean that in a good way) is getting a fairly wide theatrical release. My b-day is this weekend, so I'll be kicking back in the theater for some good ol' rubber monster mayhem!

I emailed my local theater and they will NOT be getting it. I can only hope the theater at the mall gets it, otherwise, as usual, will have to wait for the inevitable DVD. Anyone seen that TV special they did for it, ANATOMY OF A CREATURE?

I haven't seen this one yet, but it did bomb really hard over the weekend. Taken from boxofficemojo.com:
Creature was one for the record books. At 1,507 single-screen locations, the horror movie scared up $327,000, which was the fifth lowest-grossing opening on record for a nationwide release and the second-worst in terms of per-location average. To put it another way, it was the worst ever for a movie playing at 1,500 locations or more. Its per-showing attendance was less than six people, though Bucky Larson wasn't much better at a little over eight.

Ugh. This movie is stupidly plotted, choppily edited, nonsensical, lacking in gore and creature action, and just plain no fun at all. What a disappointment. How does dreck like this get in 1,500 theaters nationwide, while really cool stuff like Attack the Block and Stakeland have either very limited releases or get festival play only? I love rubber monsters, and I like Sid Haig hamming it up as much as the next guy, but Creature isn't even worth a DVD rental. It makes me sad to think that fallout from this stinkbomb might hurt the theatrical prospects of other low-budget, independent horror movies. It really should have gone straight to SyFy. I'd tell y'all to avoid it, but you apparently did just fine w/o me. :)

I would hesitate to call it a good movie, but I had a lot of fun with it. If you enjoyed the After Dark HorrorFest movies for example, you might like this one. I enjoyed seeing something like this on the big screen.
It is just a goofy little creature feature / backwoods slasher hybrid.

'Creature' Breaks Box Office Records, And Not In A Good Way (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/12/creature-film-box-office_n_958969.html)
"Creature," a low-budget horror film from first-time director Fred Andrews, was independently financed and released last weekend nationwide. An average of six people watched each showing across the country, giving the film the fifth lowest opening weekend box office gross on record for a film in nationwide release, with a total of $331,000 in ticket sales. Box Office Mojo (http://boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3270&p=.htm) noted that it's the worst opening in box office history for a film that opened in more than 1,500 theaters.
Hmm, it's a nationwide release? :eek2:

I love how B movies like this can STILL get a theatrical release, but come on, 1500 theaters?? What the HELL where they thinking? That´s WAY over the top for small indie film like this. Small theaters and numbers, old-school Grindhouse style, is the way to go with a movie like this.

Maybe it should have been called Hybrid as it seemed like a mix of Wrong Turn, House of a 1,000 Corpses, Creature From The Black Lagoon, Night of the Demon, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Predator mixed into one giant clusterfuck of a B-movie that never really gelled. A not so subtle nod to Sid Haig's Spider Baby past thrown in for good measure too.
However, I did enjoy it for what it was, a throwback to Roger Corman creature films with decent gore, t&a and awful acting galore. There's certainly many films I've enjoyed less, like the Black Christmas remake and in terms of 'creature' films, Slithis.
It was a dvd blind buy for me and pretty cheap and I thought well worth it.
