The next chapter in the PM saga is scheduled for this fall and the best part...creator Charles Band is set to direct!:

"Veteran genremeister Charles Band has been shepherding the PUPPET MASTER franchise for over two decades now, and he’s taking an even more active role in the latest entry, PUPPET MASTER X: AXIS RISING. Read on for the scoop.

Fango got the word that for the very first time in the series’ history, Band will be pulling the puppet strings himself, directing PUPPET MASTER X, which will begin shooting in Los Angeles soon for a targeted fall release. The film is a follow-up to the previous China-lensed PUPPET MASTER: AXIS OF EVIL, though the storyline directly continues that of PUPPET MASTER III: TOULON’S REVENGE, the Nazi Germany-set entry directed by David DeCoteau that is widely considered the series’ high-water mark. This time, classic killer playthings Blade, Jester, Pinhead, Leech Woman and Tunneler (which are being resculpted for this entry for the closest possible fidelity to their original incarnations) confront four new villainous toys, including Blitzkrieg and Bombshell (pictured below), plus two more to be revealed soon."

That synopsis makes this sound like the nerdiest sequel ever. Love it.

I hope this is better than the last one. I really wanted to like it, but after watching it two times, I just can't get into it.

Although the puppets were terrible Axis of Evil was a step in the right direction. David DeCoteau was probably the worst thing about it. He has a tendency to direct actors into really annoying performances. With Charles Band directing the new one I give it a 50/50 shot.

Seems like they're going a little more exploitative which is fine by me.

axis of evil was no great shakes, but i guess if you've made it this far, you know what you're getting into. i'll certainly see this.

on a related note, just ordered the first 3 UK BDs (II and III are preorders) - can't wait for those.

Well I thought the last one was slow and uninspired. Nothing really happening in it and the ending was bland. It's sad that the puppets looked better in the older films. They remind me of papermashie here.

I only like PM 1-5. For me that's where the series ended.

Yeah Fullmoon entertainment actually died in like 1995.

For the most part yes. Some of their new films have been ok. Killjoy 3 was one of the biggest surprises for me. The other two films were a steaming pile of shit, but the new one was actually entertaining. Now they've got Killjoy Goes to Hell coming out which I'm hoping stays as fun as the third.

The reviews from Full Moon fans are pretty stellar. Killjoy 3 was a surprising step up.

IMO you have to see the first two films first before you can truly appreciate Killjoy 3 and Killjoy Goes to Hell.

You probably shouldn't wish the first two films on anyone. It's a little cruel

I get what you mean though. Killjoy 3 probably isn't that impressive if you've never seen the shit-fests that came before it.

I think it's a good bad movie regardless.

I'm looking forward to seeing KGTH now.

The first Killjoy was without a doubt the single worst Full Moon film I've ever seen, thus I haven't watched any of the sequels.

The "sequel" trailers do look better though, so I might be up for watching them sometime.

Well there was a long gap between 2 and 3. I guess Full Moon wanted to try again with the series and actually hired someone this time who could direct.

Dropping the urban setting and characters was a smart move and actually giving Killjoy some beefy screentime (it took too long to show him in the first two films).

I actually wish 3 & 4 would have rebooted the series. But they had to mention the events of the first film (2 is ignored).

I don't think directing was ever the issue in the first two films. It certainly had more to do with story and script. We had to watch these boring urban characters for about 40 minutes until we finally get Killjoy doing stuff. I didn't mind him in the first film but why should I have to wait so long for anything to happen? I went into the film for a killer clown, that's what I want from the start. It just makes you feel ripped off.

I liked this one a lot more than Axis of Evil. Hell I felt it was the best since Part 5.

Some of the puppet FX is a little dodgy and the acting at time less than stellar but it was still a cheesy fun time. The Nazi general was hilariously over the top, the Ilsa inspired blonde nazi babe was a riot (and hot as hell) and I personally dug all the new puppets.

Plus Six Shooter is back! It's rough around the edges but I had a good time with it.

the one negative thing is the puppets battles we did see the full Leechwoman/bombshell fight BUT NOT Blade/weremacht and Pinhead/Blitzkrieg we just scene a brief second of it:fuck:

Iīve only seen the first 40min so far, but god damn, the acting is horrendous. Sure there were no oscar winners in the older Full Moon pictures either, but could they have gotten any worse actors for the young lead characters?? Itīs like watching a truly bad schoolplay. At least the lead Nazi is playing it so over the top itīs entertaining. But another problem is that the first 40min could easily have been cut down to 15 min, as a lot of the dialogue just feels like itīs there to extend the running time. And when you have acting like this, itīs painful to endure these scenes. ;)

Oh well, I guess I should at least force my way through it before I give it my final judgement. But there better be some puppet action showing up within the next 5 minutes.

Well, the last half didnīt improve much. Those puppets FX sure is a far cry from what was done in part 1-5. They should have used some good old fashioned stop-motion to liven it up a bit. And those fights... itīs more exciting watching a kid smash two actionfigures together in the sandbox ;)

Felt like I was watching a bad fan-film than a real Puppet Master movie.
Iīll skip the next one.

Time to rewatch the original instead ;)

Got this out of Redbox tonight. It's better than the last one, but not much. The first 2/3 of the movie moves at a snail's pace and is just boring (my problem with the last one). The puppets weren't that much better. I like Full Moon's current movies, as they do have a low budget (modern) charm, but it's just not working with the Puppet Master movies. Perhaps they shouldn't do them unless they get some more money behind them.

The Video Zone on the disc was a treat! I liked the new intro. I hear Charlie stating there will be a Subspecies next year. Man, I don't know about that. Perhaps they should just leave that series alone, I'd hate to see it turn into something like the PM series.

While I'm sure another sequel to this prequel PM series will happen, but I wish they would just do a modern day sequel and return the puppets to their "evil" selves from the first two movies.

I thought this was a good improvment over Axis Of Evil. It isn't great, but it's good nonetheless and I add points for Charles Band directing (and for that I congratulate him). ;)

Overall, I give it a "B".

Just watched this and it sucks. The puppets look terrible, the acting is bad and having these new films as period pieces doesn't seem to work.

The new puppets aren't too bad but all the classic ones look cheap. I don't understand why it's so hard for Full Moon to replicate the puppets properly. There's not enough puppet action either because they focus too much on the characters and the bland, uninteresting story.

I'd give this a "D". It doesn't deserve anything above that. I love Puppet Master 1 through 5 but these new ones are just garbage.

I agree, they donīt have a budget to make the WW2 era work anyways.
Notice there was no outdoor shots, except for a shot or two of a building or an empty alley? ;)
