I'm confused as to whether Scream 5 is being made because some articles claim that it's been given a go while others saying the plan for it appears to be dead and that the series is to be rebooted. Does anyone know what the latest status for this movie is? It will be really intesting to see where the series will go after the ending of Scream 4.

I hope not.

I agree. The series has no where else to go.

There's still Space. That where usually all sequels go ;)

There's hope - in terms of them actually doing something right with the format - if they do a remake. Damn it: all my ideas are still valid. Scream was not about "Hi, I'm Tiffany, I'll be your Blonde Bimbette Victim for today." It was about the way people regarded the horror genre. That's why they need to comment on what horror as a genre means to people now. Scream 4 was compared to Scooby Doo... um... what the hell does Scooby Doo have to do with French Sleaze, "Ultra-Smart" Madmen Trapping People, Pretentious Religious Exorcism Flicks, Infection Panic, Running Bionic Zombies, and the rest of the crap that's been passing as horror in the last decade?? I believe the calling Scream 4 out for being too much like Scooby Doo thing was probably spot-on. Another Scream movie HAS to go back to being what the series was when it was valid. A movie that addresses what the public thinks about horror. That means they have to deal with trends, politics, snobbery, etc. Scream 4 seems out of touch with what horror has been to people since Scream 3.

I don't see the point unless they're finally willing to pass the torch to a new cast. Am I the only one disappointed that certain people survived yet again? This could have been the jump-off point for something new. Instead it was like Groundhog Day.

Scream 4 was a nice reunion but pretty redundant. I'm not really interested in future installments unless the plan is to bring something substantially different to the table. And I don't see how you can do that with recycled plot lines and the same characters.

Not by a long shot, some who needed to or should've died in the first 2 still haven't. I really thought at least 1 would get offed in 4 and was pissed they didn't. I still don't hate 4 like it sounds most do, but it is easily the weakest.

Worse than Scooby Doo, "Scream 4" was like one of those TV reunion movies - A Very Brady Christmas or An Eight Is Enough Wedding. It was good to check in and see everyone again but there was nothing new being offered and you tired of the characters and story a lot quicker.

DVD-fanatic is right - they really needed to at least mention scary movie trends from last decade. How cool would it have been to have a Saw-setup in one scene only with the Scream voice instead of Jigsaw's? Or they could have gone completely meta and just riffed on lazy Hollywood's obsession with remakes and done a pointed, tongue in cheek redo of the original. THAT could have been brilliant.

I really liked Scream 4 - thought it was a surprisingly good sequal more on par with part 2 (3 being the weakest in the series by quite a bit). Id say bring on part 5 but kill off at least one if not two of the main stays

I liked Scream 4 as well, I thought it was a breath of fresh air to see such an iconic series make a return. Cool that they amped up the gore quotient too. If they make a Part V, it certainly won't be much worse than most of the shit stinking up cineplexes recently that pass as horror film.

I bought Scream 4 a few weeks ago. Haven't watched it yet though.

I saw Scream 2 on TV a while back, and can't get over what a pile of crap it is!! I remember being disappointed in I Still Know... when I saw it at the cinema ('cus I loved the first), but that movie is a masterpiece in comparison to Scream 2. Yes, I'd seen it before (but not since it was released mind you) but everything about it is just so... obvious. There's just no repeat value in it. And as someone who will happily watch repeats of just about everything, that's quite a statement!!! (Mostly because I don't remember seeing them in the first place, but memory issues aside, Scream 2 is still shit!)

Personally I liked the film, but that would have been a GREAT idea!

I enjoyed Scream 4 for what it was. I just can't see any way to avoid the pattern of diminishing returns unless something radically different is planned for future installments.

I know I'm in the minority. But I prefer 3 to 2 or 4. I can see why many people dislike 3. But for me it's an enjoyable diversion with a lot to enjoy. The other 2 sequels are competent but extremely derivative of the original.
