it feels like a bit of a cop-out, but Fulci's Zombie is probably my favorite. As much as I love Romero's original trilogy, Fulci's take is more entertaining.

oh, and nice contest title, rhett. "we are going to TREAT you." *groan*

Even though Zombie gave us the increadable Zombie vs shark scene, the original Dawn of the Dead introduced me to the genre, so it gets the nod in my book.

Fido (2006) - Has it all: unique style, fun story, humor, heart, and gore. It's a great film that appeals to a wide audience, accessible beyond horror fans but with plenty for the core audience to enjoy.

It may be because of picking up the UK blu-ray earlier this year, but at the moment I'll say Return of the Living Dead. It's well directed, acted and has a great script. Also, it proves to be both suspenseful and funny, no easy task to achieve.

Fulci's Zombie for me, but it is a tough question - I was very close to chosing Let Sleeping Corpses Lie, and I also considered the more recent The Dead. But the aptly named Zombie is the quintessential zombie movie - gleefully gory and bleak, with a nod to the exotic voodoo roots of the zombie myth (that theme music!). It also has moments of inspired cinematography - such as that derelict ship appearing in the New York harbour, appearing like an omen of oom.

Night Of The Living Dead...maybe not the best, but certainly my favorite. Saw when I was 12 in 1970, on the big screen. Warped my mind forever! Plus, the first illustration I ever had published was for "The Zombie Chronicles" the NOTLD newsletter.

Zombie 2 for the Eye Gouging scene. Also because when it came out in 1979, I was 10 years old and really wanted to see it, but it was rated X. About 3 years later, I was able to rent it on VHS from National Video, and it blew me away.

It’s too difficult for me to decide really...

Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead are just seminal masterpieces in the genre, yet they are both extremely important for different reasons. One is more bleak, vicious, and completely driven by atmosphere. The other is an apocalyptic and satirical black comedy. These two films paved the way for how our culture would further view the typical zombie we all see and enjoy today.

Sure, Zombi 2 is a gore classic and Return of the Living Dead is a fun ride and Cemetery Man has exquisite and beautiful story telling….but none of them match the importance of Romero’s first two films in his “Dead” series. As far as I am concerned, GAR belongs with the likes of say a Bram Stoker or a Mary Shelley.

Goddamn…since I can’t decide, I’m going with Bill Hinzman’s Flesheater. Ha!

Romero's Dawn of the Dead for me. After Carpenter's Halloween it's my favorite horror film of all-time. Romero's awesome script, pitch perfect characters, Savini's effects, and the epic sweep combine to make this one The Godfather of horror.

I don't know if it's my favorite zombie movie, per se- there's just so many to choose from, but the first Return of the Living Dead is one that I return to over and over again as it was one of the few movies with punk rock characters that didn't make them one dimensional. As a punk rocker/goth in the early eighties, I felt like somone had made the movie "for us" inside of poking fun by creating caricatures. Amazing soundtrack too- still listen to the Jet Black Berries!

Zombie for me. The 70's look and feel of the movie gets better with age. I love the idea of traveling to an exotic locale only to find that the dead are slowly and continuously coming after you. The four main characters play well off of each other and the gore is plentiful. The theme music is a favorite of mine and on many nights I will look it up on YouTube to give a listen. Zombie is a movie that I can watch over and over again.

I had a tough time choosing. so these are my two choices Undead or Dead and Breakfast. With my runner-up being Idle Hands. I went with these cause they're different. First Undead it's got action, comedy, aliens & zombie fish. A complete total package & a hell of a good time. I went to see it at a midnight showing & bought the uncut U.K. dvd that morning online. Now with Dead & Breakfast again saw this as a midnight showing during a fest in my home town & absolutely loved it! (Cause really how can you not love a zombie musicial that knows how to make fun of itself?) This film was campy for all the right reasons & didn't spare on gore. It was funny, the pacing was exactly where it needed to be & the songs were catchy. That & it had David Caradine & you can't go wrong there. (We miss you brother).

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD:George Romero's original 1968 masterpiece still has the power to get under my skin. It's a film that makes a virtue of it's tight budget and it's still the template for hordes of films that haunt our theater and TV screen's to this day.Classic.

Night of the living dead. I was never really into any Romero flicks or zombie movies, but I was at a Halloween party where the host was showing this in his garage. The party was lame so I actually watched the movie and totally enjoyed watching it basically outside on a crisp autumn evening. Brings back some interesting memories.

The original Dawn of the Dead. I first saw it in my Junior High years, and it made a huge impression. I was sitting on the edge of my bed, watching a VHS rental on a 13" screen, and it was just as thrilling as being in a huge state-of-the-art theater. The characters are great, and the idea of holing up in a shopping mall during a zombie takeover just can't be beat. Sure, there have been dozens and dozens of zombie movies since, but this one still feels like an epic.

Have to say Return of the Living Dead...Watched this with a really good friend and her older teenage sister and her friend waaaaaay back in the mid 80's when this came out on VHS (I was around 11 at the time)...I always felt like this was the "Scream" of zombie movies ((I mean that as a compliment) headshots don't work, snarky dialogue, zombies that run...it took everything that you came to know from Romero and turned it on it's head...and all of this back in 1985). It also introduced me to The Cramps and 45 Grave...plus 3 people that starred in the F13 franchise...

I'll have to go with CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS.

Easily Dawn of the Dead. It was probably the first Zombie movie I saw back in elementary school. It's got lots of the typical tension and gore of this type of movie, but it's also a lot of fun. For a pre-teen who was scared shitless of horror movies, I could handle this one.
