In its heyday, Italy was king of horror cinema, with visionaries like Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci and Mario Bava hammering out horror after horror to fan delight the world over. Relive the glory days with 4 new Blu-rays courtesy of BLUE UNDERGROUND. We've got a couple gialli, a nunsploitation pic and a comic adaptation that's kind of all things in between. You can win by telling us not just what your favorite Italian horror film is (we've done that before), but instead what your favorite Italian horror movie title is. They've had some long ones (You're Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key...) and some short ones (Shock!), but they've sure had a lot of memorable ones. What's your favorite?

Hmmmm... The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave sounded so cool to me back in the day, so I'll stick with that one.

I enter these contests not so much to win, but to see just how many times over a decade I can't.

I always liked the title Short Night of Glass Dolls.

I gotta go with Fulci's "The Beyond"

Suicide

Twitch of the Death Nerve is, in my opinion, the best movie title ever, so I pick that.

MorallySound

Long: Dance Steps on the Blade of a Razor (the literal English translation of Death Carries a Cane's original Italian-language title)

Short: Torso

Definitely Twitch of the Death Nerve

I always liked the title (and the poster art) "Una Farfalla con le Ali Insanguinate" = Bloodstained butterfly. Simple yet poetic.

10-19-2012, 09:23 PM
I like the english translation of the Italian title for Torso: "The Bodies Bear Traces of Carnal Violence"

Anthropophagus
10-19-2012, 09:26 PM
Slave of the Cannibal God, I always thought that one was especially catchy.

SpaceAce

Anthropophagus (Grim Reaper). Maybe not the best italian horror ever, but it is my favorite mainly because it was my first italian horror movie so it holds a dear spot for me. I have not seen too many italian horror flicks so with my limited viewing I would say anthropophagus.

Best title for me is one of the prizes...Strip Nude for Your Killer. Doesn't get much more blatantly cool than that!

Twitch of the Death Nerve and Hatchet for the Honeymoon, two Bavaria classics, are definitely my favorite titles... both great films too if not amongst my favorite giallos. Gotta give the edge to Twitch on title alone...

Wow...favorite Italian horror film?! I don't even think I can narrow that down to a list of 10!

Bava, Argento, Fulci, D'Amato, Franco...how in the hell am I suppose to pick one film from the likes of those directors? Fuck it I won't!...I refuse to!

But for the sake of the contest, I'll go with Stagefright. I love the direction Michele Soavi takes with this one. It starts off as a seemingly cheesy dance film, and then half way through it takes a total 180 and turns into this sort of gorgeous art house slasher flick. Just the imagery Soavi creates is downright stunning at times. I mean a killer wearing a giant owl head? How in the hell does he make that work? But he does.

That accompanied with an incredibly elegant and tranquil score by Simon Boswell...

And the ending to Stagefright is probably one of the most beautiful endings in Italian horror history ... I think Soavi really gives the likes of Argento and Bava a run for their money with this one. Great flick.

Kim Bruun
10-20-2012, 01:45 AM
The New York Ripper - I don't know if the film's reputation is intertwined with the title itself for me, but it just strikes me as so seedy - perhaps because it evokes Jack the Ripper, murderer of prostitutes, within the context of the neonlit Big Apple. It was marketed as Blodig voldtægt in Denmark, which translates into 'bloody rape'.

Awesome prizes for this competition, by the way!

So many titles, but for me it's a toss up between Murder to the Tune of Seven Black Notes (The Psychic is a better title for America? Really?!) and Death Walks in High Heels, as that would likely be a pleasant death :p

Is this supposed to be our favorite title as in just the title of the movie, or is it supposed to be our favorite Italian horror movie? If we're talking just titles then it's Il Fiore dai Petali d'Acciaio or "The Flower with Petals of Steel"; I love that title. If we're talking actual movies then it's probably Cannibal Ferox.

Yes, it's for your favorite title, not favorite film. The original post clearly states this:

You can win by telling us not just what your favorite Italian horror film is (we've done that before), but instead what your favorite Italian horror movie title is.
