I'm sure for most of everyone here this is old news, but I still want to talk about it.
In case you dont know, Ridley is deciding right now if his next film will be a pirate movie or the next ALIEN movie. Ridley has really lost no love for ALIEN. In fact, he wanted to direct the second film. Ridley directing again would for sure revive the ALIEN series!!
Only one thing though, why does Sig Weaver have to return?? I enjoy the character of Ripley, but we really dont need her any more. I think getting rid of her would help breathe life into the series. Plus, without Mrs. Weaver, Mr. Scott will have an extra 15 million to put into the movie!!!
Also, get off the fucking spaceship!!! For the longest time, with every new sequel, someone always says the aliens will finally come to earth. Its Part 5 now people!!!! Enough already!!!
One things for sure, if Ridley will do Part 5, you know that it will be something completely new and original. He wont come back for just another shitty rehash of the first 2 films.

ridley would be perfect! i loved the french guy and the job he did on #4, but ridley would be great! but in all honesty, there needs to be a continuity from #4 to #5 and that would include ripley. personally, i think the series needs weaver. also, i don't think 20Th fox will give the greenlight without weaver as she's been campaigning on this movie for over a year now i think. :D

I think Ridley would definately be a godsent for the series... I mean #4 was alright, I actually liked it quite a bit, but it was still very weak in comparison to the first 2, and 3 was just god awful IMO. I'm pretty sure they'll bring back Ripley with her 'new abilities' for the next one, and I agree with the above post, it should be right after movie 4, it was left in too big of a set up.
take care:D

......whilst I'd be the first person to be cheering at the thought of Scott at the helm of Alien V, it sounds like just another internet-myth.

Years ago, Scott was linked to an Aliens vs Predator movie.

Given Scott's hesitation to do sequels (Hannibal was an exception), I think it's very unlikely he'd revisit Alien, regardless of his love for his original movie.

I think making an Aliens Vs Predator movie would revive the series, I wish Ridley Scott would do that. Where else can the Alien series go by itself? Only place to go now that would be interesting is to the original planet of the Aliens Hiveworld (but wouldn't that be semi-redundant of ALIENS?). But right now we are left with having super powered Ripley and her android companion (Wynona Ryder) heading towards Earth with no signs of things to come.

Scott Ridley doing Aliens 5. Gee, I think I'll ... pass.

...Well, I'd watch it on cable or borrow the DVD or something.

DVD Connoisseur, its no myth this time. Ridley is quoted as saying he is very interested. Like I said its either this or a pirate movie.

Ridley scott used to be a visionary film maker and now he's just another Hollywood hack job artist. Just let the Alien series remain killed off by Alien Ressurection.

from dark horizons.....

Alien 5: Ridley Scott commented last week he's been considering a fifth "Alien" film as one of his next projects, now he expanded on those remarks to The Chicago Sun Times - "I'm seriously mulling it over. I think it would be a lot of fun, but the most important thing is to get the story right". Scott however isn't keen on the 'aliens infest Earth' idea saying "Earth would be interesting, and there is talk about it" in a rather bored tone, rather he'd like to explore the idea of their origins: "I say we should go back to where the alien creatures were first found and explain how they were created. No one has ever explained why. I always figured that a battleship carrying bio-mechanical organisms that could be weapons was sent into space with some space jockey who didn't last long". :D

I always thought it was the Predators that created the aliens so that they could have something to hunt. Maybe that's just the Aliens Vs. Predator storyline though. Wasn't there an Alien head in Predator 2 as well?

Yeah TobalRox, I was watching PREDATOR 2 the other night and there is an ALIEN skull at the end of the movie.

This is basically what he said in the Alien commentary, so nothing too new.

Boy, do I disagree with this. Ridley Scott made two impressive films in 2001. I mean do you realize how hard HANNIBAL was to bring to the screen, and to do it with as much humor and styles (and stunning visuals) as he, I thought was incredible.

BLACK HAWK DOWN is one of the best war films I've ever seen. I'll be first in line if ALIEN 5 has him at the helm. Love the idea that it may be a prequel. I think Scott's just terrific, and I know lots of people on here will back me up.

I thought Alien, along with The Thing - were the ultimate in SF horror. Super cool classic movies.

Aliens wasn't a horror movie - Marine dudes with big guns blasting the enemy. It could've just as easy been another Commando / Red Scorpion type thing. I couldn't dig it.

Alien 3 was right back to the vein of the first movie - deep & dark & spooky. One of the reasons the first movie was so scary is because the creature was practically invincible - given the limited weaponry used against it. Aliens gave the good guys massive cannons & huge firepower, which rendered the monsters simply as dangerous targets.

Alien 4 I just could not dig at all.

I don't even care who does the 5th 'version'

Another perfectly good film - turned into Hollywood franchise. Pity.

Ridely is good, James Cameron is just as good in ways, either of them directing would be neat.
But Ripley is important, and I like her, a unigue female character, best I've seen. After all the trouble of ressurecting her in the 4th movie, in a unigue way with special alien strengh, would be silly not to keep the continuity. Weaver's Ripley is what makes Alien work for alot of people, it wouldn't be the same with a man, and this clone of Ripley I found very interesting and new, like to see more that, after being reborn, what the hell will she do now, be on the run as a fugitive, wanted by the coroporation, or try and hijack a ship and join the aliens on their planet, a unigue twist!! interesting ideas.

Here's an "Amen!" to the Ridley Scott supporters! Ridley Scott has been on an incredible streak the past few years.....GLADIATOR....HANNIBAL.....BLACKHAWK DOWN! Off the top of my head, I can't say that there is a more impressive mainstream director out there today than Mr. Scott.

I think Ridley Scott won't disappoint the fans doing Alien 5. He did the first one, and Alien is a classic, no doubt.

Aliens
James Cameron did a superb job with the sequel, heck, Sigourney Weaver got a oscar nomination for her role as Ripley.

Alien 3
People still continue to bash it and I don't understand why: It's deep, dark & moody - just like Blazing said - and it's definitely underrated.

Alien 4
Great fun flick plus a new cool creature (and I'm not talking about Winona Ryder :D ).
