Every year we partner with the fine folks at Anchor Bay Entertainment to give you a special Top Ten list from a current horror director. We already gave you a list from SEPTIC MAN's Jesse Thomas Cook but what's Halloween without a good treat? We're very happy to bring you a list from none other than Jamie Lloyd herself, Danielle Harris!

She's been super busy this year, from directing and promoting AMONG FRIENDS as well as starring in HATCHET III, that's why she only had time for a list of 6. But they are 6 of her favorites, so read on and enjoy!

http://www.horrordvds.com/reviews/pictures/gbuster.jpg

6. Ghostbusters (1984)

Yes. This movie is a horror movie in my book!! I'm captivated by this film still! I just love it and have yet to see anything come close to this classic. There's a reason why grown men still dress up like the guys and walk around horror conventions. Did I mention I also have Slimer on my bookcase in my house??

http://www.horrordvds.com/reviews/pictures/witchboard.jpg

5. Witchboard (1986)

Ouija boards were a big no no in my house growing up, so of course I was obsessed with this classic b movie. I would have friends over when my parents would go out and we'd watch it and play with the ouija board. I have to admit, I always pushed it to move and made my friends believe that spirits were doing it!

4. Piranha (1978)

Need I say more?? Joe Dante really impacted my childhood apparently! He has this way of making kitschy things scary. The trailer for this movie is amazing. I wish they would bring this style of film making back. This is the sole reason my biggest fear is fish. I love the water, but g-d forbid I see a fish I freak out. Could be a tadpole and if it comes near me I'm screaming like I saw a shark!

3. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Classic genius. The sick mind of Freddy Kruger haunting and murdering you while you were helplessly stuck in your nightmare turned reality. Every kid doesn't wanna go to sleep when they're young, and most of us either slept with a light on or had our parents check the closet for the boogeyman. Now we were really afraid to go to sleep after watching this one!

2. Poltergeist (1982)

Was about 6 when I saw this one. Haunted places and tv's with static have forever been burned in my brain and still scare the crap out of me. I was about Carol Ann's age when I saw it, so it resonated. Just effortlessly directed and such a great mix of spfx and characters. Acting is superb and tone was so fitting. This one stands the test of time.

http://www.horrordvds.com/reviews/pictures/grem.jpg

1. Gremlins (1984)

This was the first horror movie I ever saw and my parents took me to see it at the drive in! Just some good old 80's horror. I actually have a a gremlin in my house that was a prop puppet from the movie. Its one of the only things "horror" I have on display and sometimes the little girl in me sits on the couch and thinks its gonna come alive!!

Quality picks. Anybody here watch Bones? Last season there was an episode with a Judge Judy-like character, and Danielle played the murdered producer. At one point her ex-boyfriend makes a reference to her character loving "all those Halloween movies." Good stuff.

Hail to the (Scream) Queen!

Really cool to see a contribution from Danielle Harris on here! I recently checked out Among Friends and enjoyed it. It reminded me a lot of the original April Fools' Day. Hope she does more

I wonder if Halloween 4 & 5 and Hatchet 2 & 3 would have filled out her top 10? :)

OK, we all know that she isn't a regular member or reader here (prove me wrong, Danielle!) and that all she did was fire off this list to her agent or handlers or whatever at AB's request. But still, how cool is it to have a contribution on this site from such a popular figure in the genre? If you're reading this, DH, just know that you earned major cool points in my book.

She gave a similar list to another site. Top five ... and it was different except for 3.

Never got the appeal of Harris for horror fans (besides her work in H4 and H5) but cool list regardless.

I actually never saw H4 or H5.

I think the appeal, other than her cuteness (anyone who's seen her in person will certainly agree) is that she's never shied away from her image as a "scream queen"; she embraces it. But she also does it without trying to appear campy, like a lot of the 80s scream queens did. She's still the "girl next door", except someone's chasing her with a chainsaw.

And as for non-horror, she had a line in Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead that I still use anytime I have to wake up super early: "She made us get up at the BUTTcrack of dawn"

That's the vibe I get from her. I don't find her very charismatic as an adult actress but she did a good job as a kid.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I often see people list her as one of their fav scream queens but I feel there is far bettah out there. ;)

Do you know how to read or do you only know how to be an asshole? She shares 3 of the 6 picks with the other list, but none of the write-ups for any of them are the same. These picks came emailed directly from her, not a third party. If you asked me to make a top list of horror movies for multiple sites, I'd imagine I'd have an overlap of opinion and picks as well.

My beef: I've spent 31 days of every ounce of free time I've had into pumping content to the site and to our readers, and to see ungrateful posts like that regarding other people's volunteer work is extremely disrespectful. Whatever.

I definitely share Paff's sense of "how fucking cool is this?!" at her sharing something like this with us. She's not getting anything out of it (she didn't even plug any of her own films) - to me it seems like a legitimately generous thing to do. Usually I'm fairly cynical, but regardless of whether or not you're a fan of hers (I am), I don't think there's any reason to regard this with any kind of cynicism. I know it's not a fucking essay or anything, but I don't think it's a stretch to imagine her sitting down at her computer and spending 10 or 15 minutes of her day to give a brief explanation behind some of her favorite horror films to a bunch of fans for whom it means much more than it does to her. And sue me, but I think that's damn cool of her. Just like it is for any of the other directors and whatnot that have contributed lists to the site in the past.

And as for contributions, I'm sure they're already aware, but I'll just reiterate to all the mods and reviewers and people who provide content to the site - what you do is seriously, genuinely appreciated.

Another successful October Madness, guys. Well done. And thanks a lot.

Plenty of us appreciate your efforts Rhett. Thanks for all you do to make this the place to be every October.

Thanks too to DH for taking the time to share her thoughts with us. I don't get the negativity from some of you. If you watch the convention panel interview on the H4 disc you'll see an actress who actually appears happy to be interacting with her fans--unlike the "I'm just doing this for charity vibe" Jamie Lee gives off in "The Night She Came Home" documentary on the new Halloween Blu-ray.

And all those "fans" feeding her ego...Good God, I shut the documentary off 15min in...She probably still thinks she deserves Saint status for attending that con...what a bulbous headed wench.

She really rubbed me the wrong way when she bad-mouthed The Fog, but that doc, really took the cake.

As for Danielle Harris, her appeal is definitely because she is hot...but knowing that she made a movie list that includes Ghostbusters is totally boner inducing.

I come here often because I enjoy the site and the work you do, but I don't post too much because a lot of people here (NOT ALL) are complete assholes who have warped/arrogant views of life. You just have to see that the problem is theirs, not yours. You get to ignore these negative fools. They have to live as themselves, which has to suck.

Hotness aside (and it is considerable), I had the pleasure of meeting Danielle at a con recently, and she didn't seem unhappy to be there at all. She was also one of the cheaper celebs to get an autograph from and picture with. It's dumb that they charge fans at all, but everyone else does it, so I don't hold it against her. She even chatted with me briefly about Kane Hodder, who was a few tables down. So in conclusion, she either is a nice person that enjoys meeting fans, or very good at pretending to be one.

Wow, surprised to see the negativity in this thread as well!? Like already mentioned, she took time out of her day to add something cool to this site, without even plugging her new movie. I've always been a fan of hers, from the Halloween films to Roseanne, and now with Stakeland and the Hatchet movies. It doesn't hurt that she is incredibly attractive as well. Whether you like her or not though, she should be recognized as someone that has stayed in the genre and seems to be proud of it not embarrassed like a lot of other celebs who started in the genre, which to me is amazing! If you don't like her work, that's fine, but to rag on her and say she is just doing this for cred or money is a little silly! Rant over.

Either way, I love all of these lists every month, whether it be from members here, or celebs in the business, they are always fun to read and I always find a few titles that I need to add to my watch pile. As for Danielle's list, I like it a lot, although I'm not that big of a fan of Witchboard as many seem to be. She explains why it's on her list though so to each their own.

I didn't mean to cause such an uproar when I said I didn't like her as an actress and found her overrated (seemed appropriate at the time as she is part of the topic of this thread) and I think it's quite easy to stay in a genre when you are not being offered roles outside of it.

And yes, I do think fans can be potential meal tickets for some of these celebs. One example, the actor who plays Duane from Basket Case tried selling me that UK Basket Case steelbook for $60 (uhh, no thanks- you can get it for almost 1/3 price at Amazon) at a con. I believe I recall Tuesday Knight (a CD that fans paid for but never received) and Warrington Gillette (promise of production credit if you donated on an independent film that was never made) doing things that screwed fans out of money and yet they always have a pleasant demeanor but that does not mean there cannot be ulterior motives. I don't think there is anything wrong with admitting that some of these people are in the genre to make money off some role they did years ago and aren't there to be your best friend (regardless of how nice they are) and continue to get roles in independent horror films because something they did years ago (when clearly they cannot act and should stay retired). I don't even find that view particularly negative but a realistic way at looking at some of the actor/fan and actor/genre interactions.
