Hey all...

The subject says it all.

For me it's:

1) Night of the living dead (silverscreen version)
2) Night of the living dead (30th ann. version)
3) Night of the living dead (elite version)
4) Night of the living dead (1990 version)
5) Night of the living dead (woprkprint on VCD - if that counts.)
6) Soon to add -- the millenium version

while were at it.... on VHS i have

Night of the living dead (regular)
Night of the living dead (double tape version with night of the living bread)
Night of the living dead (1990 version)

Hmmm.....? I think i like this movie...

Thanks,

Matt

When you love a film you clearly want the best version possible and that leads to the purchase of multiple copies. After some serious money spending I have made the choice never to do it again with my DVD collection.

In my VHS collecting days I bought Suspiria the initial moment it came out and that was a $100 tab. Then came the letterboxed version so I bought that at $20 (a version with an absolutly horrible sound quality). And then came the much anticipated DVD release, which Anchor Bay did a masterful job on as far as I'm concerned and I dropped a little over $30 for that... so in essence I paid $150 for one film.

Halloween was another film that I've purchased many, many times. I think a total of about 7 times (from cheap EP editions to Anchor Bay's double tape set) until my final purchase of the limited edition 2 DVD set. That's it, no more wll I buy this movie... forever!

The Evil Dead is another. I bought my first copy as a PVT from a video store. The copy wasn't very good... I'm sure it had rented quite a bit until I came to own it. Then there was a shabby EP version. A better version came out about 2 years later and then Anchor Bay's clamshell came out which I loved. Once DVD rolled around I was going to wait because by the time I got my player there were already 3 or 4 versions of it out and since I already owned numerous VHS copies I was going to wait for a special edition. The wait was worth it... and a good choice on my part.

Re-Animator... a very similar story to The Evil Dead... except that there were additional purchases because of the whole rated and unrated issue. When the initial DVD release went out of print I thought I had missed out. I'd read somewhere that the rights to it were legally tied up and there might not ever be another release of the film... so when I found 4 copies of it at a video store for sale I scooped me up a copy. Now there is a better version on the way. Because of my severe disappointment with the quality of the Elite disc I will get the newer one.

Friday the 13th... Rosemary's Baby... Hellraiser... Demons... and several others have also been multiple purchases for me. It's got to stop... its one reason all those studios just keep getting richer while we, the fans... the consumers... keep getting pooer.

I, for one, am usually pretty happy with a good quality, widescreen version of a film in it's most complete form. I will not re-buy a film for an extra minute or hogwash like that, but the only film I come close to you guys on is my all time favorite, Highlander. My first copy was a pre-viewed VHS I paid $20 for, then, at a convention, I got a PAL transfer of the director's cut in widescreen. I bought the first DVD that came out, though the quality is terrible, and that will explain why I will re-buy the Anchor Bay release that is coming out next month or April. I will re-buy a film on DVD if there are a lot more extras, a commentary I want, or a MUCH IMPROVED copy of the film. Most of my favorite films I own on VHS, and I have upgraded to DVD, only if there is a very good version out there. Some films I waited on, because I knew that there was an excellent laser release, and I expect those extras on the dvd, such as Escape from NY. I will wait for that. I waited for Terminator 1 and 2, and am glad I did. I am also waiting for a decent version of Pulp Fiction to come out, since I refuse to buy the bare bones DVD.

There's nothing wrong with the current Pulp Fiction DVD. Tarrentino will never do a commentary for PF, and the only deleted scene that I know of is with Uma & Travolta @JackRabbitSlims, where Uma asks Travolta whether he's a Beatles man, or an Elvis man. Maybe there's a behind the scenes or making of documentary on the CAV laserdisc, but not much more.

There's 4 deleted scenes and trailers on the Canadian version. Granted none of that is real exciting, but neither DVD is anamorphic, so there's obviously going to be abother version coming out. After the 10th anniversay Reseivour Dogs release I'm sure we'll see a 10th anniversay Pulp Fiction. As for Tarantino not doing a commentary, I dont believe it. Seems like he'd jump at the chance to talk through the whole movie. Maybe the real soundtrack would be a suppliment instead of his incessant babbling.

Ummm... I have the special edition director's cut of The Frighteners, and the shorter, theatrical version (for pacing)... I think that's the only movie I have on disc (LD, granted) in more than one version.
I think you need to stop buying NOTLD discs. :D

Regarding Pulp Fiction commentary.

Let's set up an account, where everyone who wants the comm. throws in a buck or 2, and use that to buy coke for the comm. session, then we will have a GREAT commentary!

A SE of this is supposed to come out this year, no word on what the extras will be yet. So far reg. 4 and reg. 0 have anamorphic transfers, the deleted scenes (all 4 of em, plus the interview intros), and behind the scenes stuff.
According to www.dvdcompare.org.uk, region 4 is the only truely uncut version, all others have 3 seconds missing (no real answer as to what, many guesses on neadles going into arms and such)

I started with the shit US version, then got the Canadian, and now have the Austrailian (reg. 4). Have to see what the new ones about before I buy this a 4th time, but I have sold all my old ones on ebay for nearly what I paid to begin with!

The worst for me is Army Of Darkness
Widescreen VHS
Dierctor's Cut VHS
2 disc LTD ED
Single disc LTD ED (I liked the gold case and cover art, so I preordered one that's never been opened)
