yea, it just came out on tuesday. i think the only extras are the documentary and a trailer. www.dvdfile.com has a review for it if you want to check that out. i'll be picking it up soon.

Yup.
It just came out this week. The only extras are the documentary (approx. 30 mins) and the trailer. It's the newest and only DVD version available (at least in r1, ntsc).

this is the LYNCH supervised restored dvd with new audio mixes and a new transfer. there's a new doc on there as well. can't beat 14.99- i love this fucking movie. on the rumor mill there is talk of the french company who financed this film releasing their own dvd next year with all the deleted scenes etc. their transfer will not be the lynch transfer or the new lynch audio mix.

The film presentation is quite nice. The movie looks better than it ever has on video and the sound mix is extremely effective. On the downside of this, the thankfully short documentary is terrible. Nobody is identified onscreen at all and feels like it was edited with a common stapler. But for $14.99, I guess you can't really go wrong.

This is a good disc only cause it has a good sound mix and a good transfer, but the absence of some 19!! or so deleted scenes is a big disappointment. Lynch had wanted to put them on the disc, but they never appeared. I wonder what happened since New Line apparently delayed the release because fans demanded to see the deleted scenes on the disc.......

I just bought this and the picture and sound is fantastic, the only down point is we got totally screwed on the extras, that documentary isnt worth shit!!
but i adore the movie so i can bear it....i was so looking forward to deleted scenes!!

The documentary DID look like it was edited by a Moron from Outer Space, but, hey - it's still thirty minutes worth of interviews with almost every TP actor (even some who didn't make the final cut of the film)... It's hardly "worthless."

It just didnt come together well, childish editing...pointless ramblings and no input from the director himself. I wouldnt watch it twice! im still reeling from the missing deleted scenes, that now seem to be lost forever....

...LD of this movie for a little while longer.

I'll wait and see what the french release is like before making a decision.

Query: How does the new Lynch mix differ from the theatrical version?

Lynch wanted to include the edited footage. No one would pay him for his time spent editing, color timing, and mixing the sound on all the scenes, plus the expense of getting the scenes from the foreign rights holders- it would have cost around an extra 100,000 dollars, and the studio didnt think it was worth it.

Apparently... and this is a long way off, like a year or two,... whoever owns the rights to distribute it in Europe is going to do their own edit with all of the deleted material- insert it back in based on the script. As far as I know, Lynch has no involvement in this, but it would still make an interesting purchase and perhaps the only way we can see the deleted material in some form.

I'll be buying it, Lynch supervised or not.

You know, it sort of reminds me a year or so back when people on NGs were asking why Kevin Smith manages to get loaded spec ed's of his films, even though they are not high art, classics, or whatever. The answer is pretty simple. He gives a fuck. He'll go out of his way for the fans.

I'm in no way trying to bash Smith, but he isnt exactly a detialed director in the first place. Plus, it is much easier for him to get the rights to his material since he doesnt have the International co-funding/producing problems that Lynch has. I totally understand if Dave wants monatary payment for his time spent editing shaping the rough material back into the film.

well, thats nice, but you know that the LD looks like dogshit and is improperly matted, right?

this dvd is sweet and a steal at 14 bux.

Good grief! Actually, it's a long time since I checked out the LD - I seem to remember the picture quality being okay but hadn't realised the matting was out. I was just glad it had Lynch's subtitles - the UK theatrical release had slipped out without them!

Hmm, this is quite the old thread. Anywho, being new to the whole Twin Peaks thing, I was curious as to whether it would be better to have seen Season Two before I buy this or would it make no difference? I guess it really makes no difference, as Season Two isn't out on R1 yet, but maybe I'll get a new region free player and buy the R2. I realize it is a prequel, but this is David lynch we're talking about. :D

Fire Walk With Me should be watched last. Its a truly masterful film that perfectly compliments a truly masterful series, the best series to date at that. On another note, there's no beating Lynch, unless we're talking Dune of course, hehe. He's my favorite director alongside Cronenberg.

Hmm, so you'd suggest getting the import with Season Two first?
