View Full Version : Thanks to Book Of the Dead - I will never pre-order again...

Hey all....

I just wanted to say that there are 3 main reasons that I ever pre-order DVD's. 1) Cheaper price (plus no sales tax), 2) I'm guaranteed to get it, 3) i will get it at the same time it is released (or earlier).....I'm sure you all agree with me...

However...

I have had a few bad experiences with preordering that have really pissed me off...

First, Book of the Dead. Ok now -- there is an advertised MSRP around of $49.99... Well, when i saw that buy.com had it for sale for $30.99 plus shipping, i jumped at the chance. However, yesterday in the paper, i saw that circuit city has BOTD for $27.99... Fuck that -- it's cheaper just to wait, believe it or not. Another thing. I preordered Hannibal for 19.99 -- but the day ot was released, it was selling at Target for $16.00.

That brings me to my next point. I didn;t recieve Hannibal until 2 days after it was released. SO, should i pay 19.99 plus shipping to recieve the DVD 2 days after it is released in stores? Or should i just pay 16.00 and get it the day it comes out? HHMMMmmmm?????

And another thing... I pre-ordered Bad Tast LE thinking it was going to be hard to find and that i had locked in ona good price... Well, it never fucking fails -- best Buy had tons of them for a few bucks cheaper than anywhere online -- the same went for the Opera LE.....

Although it's tempting, pre-ordering isn't all that it's cracked up to be....

Can anyone relate to this?

Thanks,

Matt
P.S. If anyone mentiones the price of gas in the responses to this thread -- don't even try it...! Haha...

These are the exact same reasons I stopped pre-ordering. Circuit City and Best Buy are blowing away pre-order pricing on most dvds. I just wait. BTW: Circuit City doesn't always advertise the prices, but they are usually $2 cheaper than Best Buy on the week the DVD comes out.

I usually don't shoot my wad till I'm good and ready and it usually pays off.

I was 2 seconds from jumpin' the gun and preordering BOOK OF THE DEAD at Deepdiscountdvd.com for $29 and free shipping.

But BEST BUY had the same price advertised in this Sunday's ads.. Why would I want to wait for shipping???

Then I read in today's FRY's ad in the Houston Chronicle, that the price is only $24!!!

So it paid to wait. And usually that's the case i've seen quite a few times.

But I'm goin to BEST BUY with my Fry's ad. (Fry's is too far to drive for me) Best Buy will MATCH advertised prices. $ave me money and time!!!

Bro, that price is unbeatable!!!!! MIFITZ, that's the price I would've like to have paid (given the fact I have the Elite version).

I'm getting mine from deepdiscountdvd and its running me $29.99 flat! I did see the Circuit City ad for $27.99, but with the 07% Tampa Bay sales tax, the GRAND total would've run me at $29.94....a $0.05 difference. Oh well...no sweat off my sack 'o' nutz!

I know what you mean. I jumped the gun on BOTD and regret it. My Best Buy is choking on Suspiria and Bad Taste limited editions. They have a hard time getting Synapse, SS, and some SW titles in stock. I'll pre-order those and that's it.

MISFITZ, don't rub it in.;):D

I always preorder from C&L (http://www.cnl.com) and haven't had any problems. They tell you when they are shipping them out (usually a week before street date) so you can combine them in shipping with other released titles you might want to get. Got my Book of the Dead on Friday and couldn't be more happy! *rubs it in* :)

Yeah, I never pre-ordered because of that problem stated here

I just reserved my copy at Suncoast. I paid $5 down and when I return 3-5, I'll only have to pay $25.00. Not a bad deal.

Let's not forget Night of the Zombies/Rats. Around $17 on preorder, or $13 in stores 3 weeks early.

$17? The dvds are only MSRP $19. That's not much of a deal.

I learned my lesson when I pre-ordered The Wicker Man, and got it like 5 days after I had found it at BB, and ended up paying about $3 more as well.

yeah. I got BOTD on Amazon for $37 on pre-order back in, like, January. came to $40 with shipping. gaaah.... between that, getting AWiL three weeks late and not having yet recieved Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.... screw it, I'll drive my lazy ass down to Best Buy and get it easier and cheaper.

just got my book today, tho, and I'm falling-over estatic. :D

I preordered my copy of BOTD about a month ago from amazon. I paid 40 bucks for it and they shipped it Friday. :( It's now too late to cancel the order since it's on its way. Oh well. Next time I won't be so quick to preorder.

I'm gonna email deppdiscountdvd & let 'em know if they can meet me at that $19.99 online price! I absolutely HATE that feeling of overpaying for something (especially for something I already had)!!!

By the way, got mine yesterday & did ALL the special features! Now I just gotta sit down & watch the movie itself! Does the BOTD SMELL funny to U?

Been hearing a lot about the 'smell' of the book. maybe it's real flesh. Who knowz. I'm goin' after work today to snag my copy.

Speakin' of RATS, that is a hefty price. I totally agree with DavidHess. I saw it at best buy the other day and think it was like 11.99 for it.

Got mine at 8:01:12 this morning. Me and 5-6 DVD geeks were racing to the back of Fry's Electronics! Funny thing was that the employees were too lazy to put them out so we couldn't find them for about a minute until we saw them still in their shipping boxes in the middle of the aisle. $27.05 OUT THE DOOR can't beat that! :)

FYI - The "smell" isn't any worse than a freshly opened McFarlane figure, it's not like it stinks up the room or anything. I'm sure it will go away after a day or 2.

LOL! Good one, Peter.
I picked up a copy for a friend at BB. They had a ton of them! Props to AB for innovative packaging.
Put the book up to your nose and inhale for 2 hours. The colors, man...;):D

$24.99 at Fry's Electronics (they had about a Zillion copies). I first went to a Best Buy that was out (as well as the bitch telling me that Yes, they got Lamberto Bava's Delirium in, but they only got one copy in and they don't know where it is, so If I'll check back in a couple of days they might have located it). Then I went to a Circut City close by. They only had one copy (which I was nice enough to let my brother buy). I then went to Borders with my girl friend, and they had about 15 copies all for $40 each. it was just a long day. But in the end I found both BOTD and Delirium, and ended up buying Super Mario Cart for my Game Boy Advanced as well.
