Other than the summer camp slasher films, school/college based slasher films were probably the most prominent sub-sub-genre, so why not have a little poll to see which is the best of the best?

Let the voting begin, and remember folks, lets keep this clean and above the belt. :D

Ok, now I've only seen 4 films on your list - need to really check out the great DVD release of "Hell Night" - but I love "The Prowler" - great Savini bloodletting and a creepy killer in GI suit with bayonet at the ready or a pitchfork nearby - fucking love it!!!

I voted for Slaughter High, a nice slice of Grade A slasher cheese from the 80's. Marty rocks!:D

I've been trying to find Slaughter High to rent for years, but haven't had much luck. Since you think highly of it Mark I guess I am going to have to go out and buy it! :)

I love Hell Night the best. It's costuming, atmosphere and setting work for me - love that end chase sequence as well.

My favourite school slasher film is more a gothic horror, directed by C.I. Serrador: "The House that screamed".
Among the titles in the list, for me it is difficult to choose between "The Prowler" aka "Rosemary's Killer" and "Hell Night".

Don't even try and take credit for this one Helly, this one's my baby! :D

You may think HOSR has the upper hand, but that is because I haven't voted yet...Final Exam here we come! :D

It's got to be Return to Horror High. Of this sub-sub-genre, it was a favorite video in my collection in the 80's. I just think that it's sense of humor is refreshingly off-beat and odd (for the era); and even more off-beat is how the film switches in tone so abruptly from comic scenes to rather violent scare-oriented scenes. What's more unusual is the fact that the scares are pretty effective and so is the comedy (I love the exploding tits gag).
I also think Maureen McCormack gives a really funny perfromance as the deputy officer at the crime scene. I mean, she was cast as a bit of a sight gag (at that time, there wasn't all of this Brady nostalgia and seeing someone we grew up watching on TV in a B-horror flick was funny), but she actually works really well for the tone of the picture.
Anyway, that my 2 cents. Fun poll, by the way.

So we both had the same thought, no big deal.
"Night School" would have been on my list though. :p

The Prowler for me. Sure it has gaping plot holes but it features one of the coolest looking slashers ever and Savini's fx are top notch and damn nasty.Slaughter High and House On Sorority Row (I'm a sea pig! ) would be second and third.

The Prowler! This movie has a high replay value for me, and House on Sorority Row as a close second.

The Prowler rules, but I had to vote Hell Night. Even though there is little there in terms of gore, I love the story, cast and suspense. The haunted house vibe is very cool too, Garth Manor reminded me of Richard Matheson's Hell House novel for some reason.

Return to Horror High. Simply because of Amos the Janitor.

"I wanna be in one of them pussy films! I got 10 inches strapped to my leg!"

I rest my case.

Not to mention the wicked end theme song. "I liiiiike scary movies (I love those scary movies!)"

The Prowler. An awesome killer, a great score, wonderful small town atmosphere, the fat guy at the motel, the humorous stare between the heroine and the mentally off guy... how could I not choose it?

Had it been included, I may have voted for The Redeemer. Tough call though. It and The Prowler both rule. As it is, Final Exam is the runner-up.

I love every movie on the list, but went with Hell Night...which I think is the most atmospheric...and has at least one or two genuine scares that still hold up well today.

Prom Night for me. The Prowler is a disappointment in many ways; the kills and atmosphere are great, but the execution (no pun intended) leaves a lot to be desired. Simply put, it's dull. Which is sad because it has the best special effects of any slasher film (or possibly ANY horror film).

Tonight, I voted for Hell Night.......tomorrow, I could very well be angry that I didn't vote for The Prowler......both are two of my all time faves

From this list I'd go with THE PROWLER,an underrated gem.I'm wondering, though,if BLACK CHRISTMAS might not qualify .While it mostly takes place at a sorority house,it is set around a college campus(and certainly none of THE PROWLER took place at the school).I guess you could argue the "slasher" label, but people are stabbed in it(among other things). It's a hugely influential film in this genre. What do you guys think ?

Hell Night? Is there even a school in that movie? Wasn't Blair like 47 when she starred in it?

Pledge Night and Rush Week, even Slumber Party Massacre at least partially took place on a campus.

Once again, rhett shows his limitations by not including My Best Friend is a Vampire. That is the most glaring omission.

I gotta go with The Prowler on this one. Man, I love this flick. One of the five greatest slashers ever made.

Sorry, but I'm the Sorority House Massacre lover. Would have picked The Prowler but Sorority just holds too fond a place in my heart. Also I wish there was a Slumber Party Massacre option (it started at school)....that would get my vote every time.

I would have to go with Prom Night also. The Prowler had some good kills but just didn't do anything for me. Hell Night would be a close second, of course I am biased though as I love Blair so much.
