Are we ever going to see a R1 dvd?

Anything's possible, but I doubt we'll see one anytime soon. PJ has actually been quoted as saying that he likes the 97 minute "NR" cut better than the Braindead cut (sacrilege!). I'm probably starting to sound like a spokesperson for Malata, but dammit, anyone who's a fan of genre film, especially zombie movies, NEEDS an all-region PAL converting player. Free yourself from the tyranny of region codes and TV standards once and for all! Rise up, my zombie brother! Just think, you are missing out on:
The Euro-shock version of Fulci's Zombie with a better transfer than the AB version, and a discrete soundtrack.
The Dutch Filmworks 2-disc special edition of Dawn of the Dead.
Dead and Buried, an ass-kicking 80s horror flick about some reanimated folks.
You can have Return of the Living Dead on dvd NOW! and not at some undetermined time in the future.
Of course, a little horror-comedy by some Kiwi guy, featuring extra zombie sex while impaled on garden implements...
Cemetery Man, Wild Zero, and a helluva lot more! Not to mention that there... may be hundreds of other so-called 'non-zombie' films out there that will in all likelihood never be released on region 1.
Just a thought...

Actually, we're not missing out on Dead & Buried... There's a region 0 NTSC disc.

Well, we should be seeing beefed up dvds of Zombie and Dawn of the Dead (eventually), but I may have to get a R0 player just for Braindead! That movie just ROCKS!!!

I don't have one (yet...but i will soon!) but I've heard nothing but good things about the Malata 996, and you can get them at http://www.avdeals.com they're supposedly one of the best places to get this model. I believe luminous has them too http://www.lfvw.com
and you can pick up some flix to test it out with at Luminous too!

I am wondering this myself. Believe it or not, it was on Scifi channel last weekend. I only caught the end, but it reminded me of how I liked this lost little gem of the 80s.

Hey! I saw it on Sci-Fi as well. Had no idea what the hell it was at the time though. Does the DVD have better picture quality? It looked pretty bad on cable, really bad actually, and I would like to think the DVD is an impovement.

it's available here:

I think this is the revised version, i.e. better quality than the original release.
