View Full Version : Night of the Living Dead: Millenium Edition?
I saw it in the video store today. Is it worth picking up? Any reviews for it yet? I don't have any of Romero's Dead flicks on DVD yet.
I'll be posting my review of it later this week. Short answer is, yes, if you don't have any of the Romero Dead movies on DVD, this is a fine place to start.
But what if you already have the old Elite DVD or LD? Hmmmm.....you'll have to wait for my review to find that out

If you want to wait for Paff's review, DON'T READ ANY FURTHER!
The Millenium Edition is the best DVD release Night has had, with every extra from the highly coveted Elite Collector's Edition laserdisc, and a slightly better video transfer than Elite's first DVD release, not to mention a nice new 5.1 mix. Now, whether it's better than the laserdisc is just a matter of opinion, depending on what kind of tv/laserdisc player you have, how you have the LD player hooked up, and what sign of the zodiac you are.

Actually, the DVD is missing the stills gallery from the LD (nearly 400 stills, some in full color!), unless it's on some Easter Egg I haven't found yet...

Is there really 400 stills on the old laserdisc release? I knew there was alot but I didn't think it was that many. I'm bored tonight maybe I'll fire up the old player and count them. I already checked the sleeve and it doesn't list how many stills there are just that the gallery is extensive.
I'm not going to buy the new dvd since I already own the laserdisc but I was reading it's cover the other day and it stated that the b.w./color still gallery was included.
Well, I'm putting the final touches on the review tonight, so I'll continue to search the DVD for that still gallery. There IS a still gallery on the DVD, but it's the props one, not the photos (as far as I can tell).
And yes, it's nearly 400 stills on the old LD. Just look at the frame counter on the display. The gallery starts on frame 480 or so and ends at 860something.

You are right Paff,I just got done counting. I used the players counter display and deducted the frames used for text even though the text should be included since most of it is quite informative and explains the interesting story of how the photos came to be,anyway...A total of 372 pics! Damn,I guess I never realized just how extensive the still gallery was on that release. I might be wrong but this very well may be the largest still gallery on any disc ever.
Freaky! The stills gallery IS listed on the DVD cover, however, it's nowhere that I can find on the disc itself!!
Now, I know the guy who's originally resposible for finding those photos is here in the forum, but he don't work for that company no more...
If anyone else can clue me in on why the stills aren't there, let me know ASAP, 'cause I will mention this discrepancy in my review...

I heard alot of people dont like the new MILLENIUM edition because it doesnt have the beginning that the LD and Old Elite version has. Maybe a SPOILER FOR SOME........
The beginning Im refering to is the washed out , sound blurb intro to the movie...(as the car is driving up to the cemetary). This is what you saw on the VHS and TV versions . Then wammo it explodes and you see the ELITE symbol . Then it proceeds to the new transfer of what I described above. My father showed it to me last night from his LD. I just didnt want to pay the large amount for the original ELITE disk....so I bought the new one instead. I really did like the intro from the original ELITE and LD though!:D

I pulled out my LD last night, and you guys are right, it is missing the photo gallery. What gives? While we're on the subject, I have to say I'm a little disapointed in the new DVD's packaging. Elite could have done a little better than just reprinting the exact same text by Romero & Stephen King from the LD, or at least printed Sam Raimi & Tom Savini's text as well.
