Tales From the Darkside did it for me. Most of the shows sucked ass...but the beginning intro! That was some creepy stuff. Everything looked so surreal...the shot of the lonely house in the hills...the stream...the black-and-white shot of the forest

Oh yeah...and you can't say Twilight Zone or Night Gallery, weakeners :P

Dark Shadows for me. I played sick to stay home from school to watch it as often as I could.

I will say the Twilight Zone :) I use to stay up late to watch the twilight zone all the time I loved it! I also loved the old One Step Beyond and The Outer Limits shows. Those were the good old days when tv was at least good.

For me it is Tales from the Crypt.

Although its not scary...I love the Treehouse of Horrors episodes that the Simpsons do every Halloween.

I watched them all but have fondest memories of One Step Beyond (because it was the first I can recall), the original Outer Limits and Thriller ... and then of course Rod Serling.

Actually I remember LISTENING to horror shows on the radio when I was a kid! Some of those were quite effective in sending a chill up the spine -- actually much more impressive than the visual stimulus of TV.

Tales from the Darkside without a doubt! Although I liked Freddy's Nightmares...

"The Dark Room" hosted by James Coburn....Scary stuff, the opening sequence alone used to scare me to death. It only aired for a short time when I was 8 or so.
One of the best episodes I remember envolved a witch who lived near an over-curious young boy. It ended with the witches black cat chewing the boys tongue out of his mouth with this gross squishy sound effect, while this is happening his mother is calling for him downstairs. After awhile without a response the mother finially shouts "whats the matter, cat got your tongue?"
Anyone else remember this early 80's rarity?

The Tales From The Darkside intro is classic!!! That was always the scariest part of the show aside from one of the few eps I can remember being "Within the closet" with that little white monster.

I love the Twilight Zone a bit more. It has good and bad episodes but it ws pretty consistent.

Wouldn't it be great if the Sci-Fi channel were to show these back to back at 12 and 12:30 AM every weekday? Then an episode of MST3K at 1 AM. That would make my night! That's the timeslot these shows belong. Not in the afternoon!!

It's Twilight Zone for me.:D Rod Serling was the man! The show had some quality writers (Richard Matheson, George Clayton Johnson, Charles Beaumont, and of course, Serling.) and the makeup effects by William Tuttle were nightmarish. (example: "The Masks" or "Eye of the Beholder.") The new series didn't have the same spark.
I also dig Tales from the Darkside, The Ray Bradbury Theater, Friday the 13th- The Series, and even Monsters.

Man, I here ya! I actually remember that episode with the little white monster hehehe. Another episode that I remember is about an old couple that cook up a couple of travelers that visit their home...can't remember the title. Very corny plot, but the atmosphere was really perverted.

The movie was pretty good too, you know the one about the kid with powers and how he erased his sisters mouth I wish I could of had done that on some people, the airplane monster was cool also and dan ackroids do you really whant to se something scary.

Fuck yea, that was the shit!! It's called "Grandma". I just finished posting about that episode earlier. I enquired about that episode a few months back too. Again, if anybody has a copy of this episode, please let me know.

Twilight Zone
Outer Limits
Tales From the Darkside (that intro was undoubtedly the greatest and creepiest of all time. Esp. the music. Goosebumps like a mofo!!!!!!)
Tales From the Crypt

One episode of Night Gallery or something about an artist. This man painted a nature scene but in the middle of the painting was what looks to be a monster with pointy ears staring straight. One night after a party he looked at the painting and the creature was missing. He went to another room and the beast attacked him and the story was over.

Yeah, Man, Gunner. Loved that show. About 4 or 5 years ago, Scifi Channel aired them all. Only 5 eps. and I taped them. Some of them still hold up, but the last couple really went down hill, so I see why it was cancelled. When it comes to my favorite horror show of all time, it is definitely Twilight Zone. Have a special place in my heart for anthology series. I will give any one a chance, but there hasn't been a really good one in a while. I also loved Millenium. Definitely one of my favorite shows of all time.

I'd have to go with Tales from the Crypt as my favorite. As for some runners-up? Buffy the Vampire Slayer (guilty pleasure), Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Tales from the Darkside, X-Files (though not technically horror).

MILLENNIUM was 1 of the best horror shows on tv in the past 10 yrs. or more. Also what about American Gothic?

I don't know if Twin Peaks counts, but I just got through the first season (and the pilot) and I love it. Really surreal and original, Lynch at his best!

Friday the 13th: The Series was good cheesy Canadian made fun. Canada makes the best beer, and the best 80's horror cheese, and don't anyone try and deny it! :)

...was one of my favourite (recent) horror shows. Well worth checking out.

I'm also addicted to Buffy and Angel - great, sharp-witted scripts and a lot of fun....

As far as the classics go, Twilight Zone was exceptional. Also enjoyed Hammer House of Horror.

I remember a show from the early 70s called "The Evil Touch". It was a horror anthology series hosted by Anthony Quayle. I used to watch it and then try to go to bed. I'd lay awake for hours scared to death. Those were the days!

Yea, same here.

It's a shame that his other TV projects after TZ didn't take off. (Of course, Night Gallery was the exception.)
He was unhappy with the Night Gallery show. It had some gems, but the quality wasn't consistent.

For TZ fans, check out The Twilight Zone Companion by Marc Scott Zicree. It's a great read.

Both the old and some episodes of the new Outer Limits was really creepy. It's nice to see that MGM is planning on releasing the old episodes on DVD.

Is it just me, or is MGM starting to really kick-ass nowadays? KKFOS DVD and the rest of the Midnite Movie Line, ROTLD, and now old Outer Limit episodes. MGM "recognizes"

Jesus, I feel so deprived. I've never watched any horror shows. I guess I don't really have an excuse. Oh wait, yeah I do, Sci-Fi has always come in on my TVs really shitty, since I can remember. Lines across the screen and shit, it's really annoying.

"Twilight Zone", "Tales from the Darkside", "Tales from the Crypt", and.......I faintly remember seeing an episode or two of "The Night Stalker" when I was a little one. Does anyone else remember this series? If I remember right, it had a detective that would encounter a supernatural threat each episode while doing his investigations (kinda like a one-man X Files).
