Another great great year for horror flicks. My vote: VIDEODROME
04-27-2002, 11:55 PM
Wow, what a great year! A lot of my favorites are on this one. It is so tough picking between Halloween 3, Friday 3, Creepshow, Videodrome, The Evil Dead and The Thing. Overall though, I've got to give nods to The Thing, a great film on all levels, and one that is just as effective today as it was 20(!) years ago.
The Beast Within is also a pretty entertaining film too. The transformation scene is like a good combination between AWIL and a bad case of acne. :D

I can't imagine having a quality set of horror releases like that in one year thesedays.
It's a real difficult call for me, deciding between Evil Dead, The Thing and Tenebre. I'll go for The Thing, by the slimmest of margins. Nope, I've changed my mind....Evil Dead. Not an easy choice....

1. FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3-D
3. AMITYVILLE 2: THE POSSESSION

Whew, some Definite classics here! VIDEODROME, THE THING, and BASKET CASE have honorable mention, and if it wasn't for the lame Stephen King segment of CREEPSHOW I'd have went w/ that one.....so, my vote goes to Dario Argento's arm-choppin' Murder mystery TENEBRE.
Tenebre gets my vote, as it is one of Argento's best. However, Evil Dead and Videodrome are very close.

Ooh, some really good ones here. But no doubt about it, it's 'The Evil Dead' for me. It was one of the first tapes we rented and it truly scared the living shit out of me!
It's just a shame I couldn't pick Videodrome, Basketcase & Tenebre as well.
I have to go with Creepshow. The list is really hard to choose from, but Creepshow was one of my favorites growing up.
06-25-2002, 07:21 PM
Evil Dead is the bomb, but my vote went to Creepshow, mainly because I had bought & read the comic (probably a million times) & simply could NOT wait to see this flick! The comic theme really made this movie one of my favs for a LONG time!
06-29-2002, 10:28 PM
Gotta go with the Evil Dead. Lots of great movies to pick from
07-03-2002, 12:59 PM
'82, what a fine year it was. Well, I gotta go with "The Thing". When I first saw that movie - and this was way back in the bad old days of pan & scan - I thought it was the best movie I'd ever seen. It isn't anymore, but it's still a damn fine movie and clearly my fave from this particular year.
Creepshow!!! I love Adrienne Barbeau, she has great tits.
07-08-2002, 07:54 PM
Fuck this. Wayyy to many good movies to choose from. I'll just pick one to go with the flow........Evil Dead. But I wanted to pick about 5.
07-12-2002, 07:04 PM
Damn...really tough choices. HALLOWEEN 3: SEASON OF THE WITCH was awesome so I guess I will go with that. Lots of people hated it for the same whiney bullshit reason "No Micheal Myers". Fuck them, great movie!!
07-16-2002, 02:03 PM
TENEBRAE!!! Argento still rules
10-30-2005, 01:04 AM
Evil Dead (with Tenebrae right behind)
10-30-2005, 01:07 AM
Evil Dead for me.
It's kind of odd all those great horror movies came out in one year. Meanwhile, we have The Fog, The Ring 2 and House of Wax.
10-30-2005, 01:38 AM
I think if I had seen Evil Dead earlier in my horror career, it would've surpassed F-3 but I only finally saw it less than a year ago and I've been watching F-3 since I was a kid. So it gets the nostalgia vote as well.
10-30-2005, 02:35 AM
Tough choice between Evil Dead and The Thing but ultimately I went with the latter. Both movies are great, gory fun but I think John Carpenter really exploited all the primal human fears to their full potential in The Thing.
10-30-2005, 03:38 AM
I went with Cat People. So many good films for sure, but I figured no-one else would bother to give it the kudos it so justly deserves, so that honor falls to me.
10-30-2005, 04:45 AM
Almost impossible to choose!!! One of my favorite Argento films and the movie that scared the crap out of me as a kid (Poltergeist). But the one I've seen and enjoyed the most is George A. Romero's tremendous Creepshow
10-30-2005, 05:04 AM
Had to vote for F13 part 3 but Evil Dead was such a close second it wasn't funny.
damn tough choice.. bruce campbell or kurt russell.... i went with evil dead this time, but that could change at a moments notice!
10-30-2005, 05:27 AM
Holy crap, I didn't even see The Thing on the poll. Can I change my vote? Sigh.
10-30-2005, 08:31 AM
Man,this is like trying to pick your favorite child.I LOVE a lot of these movies. In a pinch I'd go with CREEPSHOW,I can still watch it anytime, and it had one of the best audience reactions of any film I ever saw.
By the way,I had the rare chance to see FRIDAY THE 13TH PT. 3 in 3-D in the theater last night locally.I'd never seen it on the big screen before,it was a lot of fun with an audience.
10-31-2005, 03:10 AM
the evil dead
alone in the dark
friday the 13th part 3D
10-31-2005, 03:48 AM
I go for Halloween III. Some of the other listed movies are great too but H3 has a high replay value for me. I never get tired of watching it even quite frequently.
10-31-2005, 06:01 PM
Wow, what a wonderful year that was. Many serious contenders on any other year, but Videodrome has to be it. Even above Carpenter's the Thing.
11-02-2005, 07:16 PM
WOW, didn't realize what a great year for films that was!! Hard choice with Evil Dead, but I am such a mark for Carpenter's Thing, I had to go with my heart on that one.
11-02-2005, 11:02 PM
The Evil Dead and The Thing?......You really expect me to choose!
08-16-2007, 09:25 PM
Awesome year for horror, so many great films to pick from! Went with Carpenter's remake of The Thing. Close behind for me are Creepshow and Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Also really love Q - The Winged Serpent, Tenebre, Amityville 2: The Possession, and Poltergeist.
Poltergeist for me. Just can't forget the first time I saw that film.
Then again, Creepshow, The Thing and Tenebre could just as well have been choice. But they don't have a goosebumpy Jerry Goldsmith score. :)
08-17-2007, 04:04 PM
It was almost The Thing for me but Poltergeist has gotten many more repeat viewings and ultimately entertained me more. Talk about a great year for horror though
08-17-2007, 05:00 PM
goddamn were movies good back then. unbelievable. they're all my favorite, but i gotta give props to old man Hochsteadter on this one, Slumber Party Massacre
08-19-2007, 11:41 PM
"The Thing" is on this list. That's unfair to everything else on it.
08-19-2007, 11:55 PM
The Evil Dead.
Runner-up: Basket Case.
08-23-2007, 11:43 PM
The Thing followed very closely by Evil Dead.
08-24-2007, 12:39 AM
The Thing and Evil Dead seem like too easy of picks so I'm going with Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3-D.
06-19-2008, 11:12 PM
If you actually count this as being "the year of" Videodrome and The Evil Dead, this is the greatest year in horror history. Those titles are unbelievable.
I went with Creepshow, because it's my favorite. With The Evil Dead, Videodrome, Friday the 13th Part 3 right behind it. But MY GOD look at the other films on that list! Q the Winged Serpent, Tenebre, Poltergeist, Cat People, Basket Case, Swamp Thing... That is probably the greatest slew of horror films ever released in 1 single year. If you count VD and ED.
06-20-2008, 12:04 AM
Evil Dead for me. Some pretty decent stuff in that list. Really makes me miss that era of Horror...really bad actually.
06-20-2008, 12:41 AM
Tenebre, followed by The Thing.
06-20-2008, 12:53 AM
Creepshow!!! I love Adrienne Barbeau, she has great tits.
Yeah, but she shows them in Swamp Thing from the same year. Creepshow she keeps her shirt on. :D
Wow, really really tough. As I was reading down I'm like "well of course [title]" and then I'd read another title and have to reconsider. From bottom to top I'd have to say:
New York Ripper, The
Evil Dead, The
John Carpenter's THE THING
The Thing JUST barely skims out in front of Videodrome. All I can say is that The Thing is simply more fun. Sorry Cornenberg, and you gave it your best shot that time too.
But wait a minute... Videodrome was 1983! Why'd you make me choose? WHY?!?!
06-20-2008, 12:54 AM
The critic inside me knows that Videodrome is the best film.
The fan in me enjoys Thing, ED and TENEBRE immensely.
And both are in love with Morte Vivante for completely different reasons.
What a year!!!!
06-20-2008, 12:56 AM
Had to vote objectively. Videodrome is the best film.
Now don'bother me, I'm watching ED and TENEBRE back-to-back.
And that's only 'cause I saw THING yesterday.
06-20-2008, 01:15 AM
If we add sci fi to the mix (in a "cinema fantastique" way) then you have Blade Runner also! What a year!!!
