Does anyone here have the R2 Dawn of the Dead (Director’s Cut).
How is the quality? I have the Anchor Bay theatrical cut but have never seen the Dir. cut.
Anyone know when the new Anchor Bay 3 disc set will be out?

I don't know much about the Region 2 release, but I've heard that it's only 2 discs. The Anchor Bay 3 Disc set will be out in April 2003. I'm just going to wait on that.

Wait for the Anchor Bay release. The R2 set is not very good.
Disc 1 is the Director's Cut. It's in widescreen, but not anamorphic. It's somewhat grainy, the colors are not too good. It looks like a direct VHS (maybe laserdisc) transfer.
Disc 2 is the Argento Cut. Pan & Scan, and it looks really bad. You're just wasting your money buying this before Anchor Bay releases their version.

Theres a UK release of D.O.T.D, that claims to be a directors cut, even though its slightly cut.
It does, however, have an exclusive Tom Savini commentary track.

Wasting your money? When you can get it for about $15 shipped? What the hell have you got to loose?
Disc 2 is not pan and scan, it is open matte, and loogs better than the matted widescreen. It has a short version of the doco of the dead on it too.
The picture quality isn't all that bad. I'd heard how bad it was, so I was pleasantly surprised. The pic is MUCH better than Anchor Bay's Day of the Dead...

I would have ordered this, but seeing as how AB's version in April '03 will be FAR superior, I think I'll hold off for now and pick that one up. This film deserves only the best.

Agreed Napalm, very acceptable set, I am happy with the purchase.

Of what R2 Version are you guys talking about? There are several R2 versions out, in Germany alone are about 3 or so. The german ones are from shitty to quite good. There just came SEs of both Day and Dawn out, which have quite good pictures. But the Dawn disc is with the german ultimate final cut (156 min.), from Astro.
The best R2 versions I know, are the netherland versions. They're both in widescreen and digitally remastered, have good quality. Dawn is even a two-disk set with both, the romero cut with 140 minutes and the argento cut with 117 minutes. The argento cut is fullscreen though. They also have a lot of extras, I mean really alot and even with the Document of the Dead, a 60-minute documentary (really interesting). They're english with optional dutch subtitles.
They're even not very expensive. I don't know about online shops but in shops in Amsterdam, they were both at 9 Dollars.

One definite cut is the child zombies being shot at the airfield.

That's the same I was talking about, at leats the cover. I have this one from netherlands and it's a 2-disc set with george's and argento's cut. I love this dvd and furthermore mine has a sticker with DOCUMENT OF THE DEAD on it. Go for the dutch one, it should be the same price, but with a lot more extras!
