Might as well do the 70s :D

Let's start with 1979.

STREET TRASH

I went with Abel Ferrara's supremely low-budget; gritty film DRILLER KILLER, although many of the choices on the list had their moments.

Lots of great movies here, but none equal the visually magnificent Nosferatu, The Vampyre. That is undoubtedly the best Dracula film ever made, IMO. Ridley Scott's beautifully shot Alien deserves mention as well. My third pick would be the first 15 minutes of When a Stranger Calls. ;)

Easy: The Brood! Oh, how I'd love to see that on DVD. The Australian video release was butchered by the censors.:(

Believe it or not, but I love "The Amityville Horror". I can't help it, it's an old favorite. Please forgive me. "The Legacy" and "Prophecy" were good too.

Phantasm, easily. I still consider Alien a Sci-Fi movie.

Alien, although there are a lot of movies up there worthy of my vote. Still. None of them are quite as awesome as Alien.

Went with ZOMBIE since I still watch it all the time and like it as much as I did when I first saw it. A lot of the others I saw when I was younger but recent rewatchings haven't been as good.

Also like CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, PHANTASM, THE BROOD, and NOSFERATU.

Vote for Phantasm or Reggie won't sell you any ice cream!

I am sticking with Phantasm over Alien, if only for the originality of it all...and because the laserdisc/dvd features the best deleted belching scene ever....

Damn, what a tough year to pick. 1979 was still during the golden age. I went with Zombie but could also have chosen Phantasm, Prophecy (a borderline guilty pleasure), Buio Omega, or Cannibal Holocaust.

I voted for Cannibal Holocaust, a truly cult favorite. Though all around a tough choice to choose, my other favorites would certainly be Alien, Phantasm and Zombie.

I went with The Brood. While I think Alien is a much better film, The Brood is my favorite from that year. Phantasm was a really close second, thirdly is Alien and Zombie in a neck to neck tie. What a great year for horror!

Voted for Alien btw :)

Alien was and is easily the best of the lot, though I revisit Zombie the most from this period.

This was kind of a crappy year in horror.

I voted for Phantasm because it's my favorite but I think Alien was superior. Then Fucli's Zombie (his best film) in 3rd place.

After that... slim pickings, very slim.

Alien for me.

This was kind of a crappy year in horror.

Funny, I was just thinking the opposite that I never realized how good of a year it was.

Alien
Brood, The
Cannibal Holocaust
Fascination
Nosferatu
Phantasm
Salem's Lot
Tourist Trap

All good, but nothing can compare to a topless scuba diver being attacked by a zombie which in the process is attacked by a shark.

Lucio Fulci's masterpiece Zombi 2!

OP!! Forgot about Salem's Lot. And I haven't seen Herzog's Nosferatu yet. You're right, I underestimated it. A little. But some of your list I already mentioned. Or are just overrated.

I liked Cannibal Holocaust, I love The Brood and I REALLY love Phantasm, but absolutely nothing can come close to Alien.

Exactly what I voted, and my reasoning. Alien is a better film and a must own. But Phantasm is just such a brilliantly bizarre film, with so many hooks into my memory, it was the must pick choice. Zombie was the only other film to give me pause in choosing.

The Brood and Nosferatu could easily have sprinted to the finish if the above monoliths weren't blocking the path.

The Brood is overrated. Though I think it's better than his other films Shivers, Scanners, and Naked Lunch.

Alien leads us into the film as more of a 2001 thing, marvel at the production design and all the futuristic looking sets, so it's very boring at first and takes awhile to get going. Phantasm starts right away, has a lot more atmosphere, and never has a boring moment. It's more consistent, though Alien delivers bigger shocks and much better acting. Which in the end is the ruling factor, really. And it's scarier, no question about that.

It's hard to choose between Zombie and Alien. I think I 'll have to choose Zombie since I have great memories of seeing it at the drive-in as a kid, and I didn't see Alien until it was on HBO.

BUIO OMEGA is a masterpiece. It's sick, relentless and pulls no punches.
