Ok, this is a no brainer. Mine is obviously Tom Savini, but I love Rick Baker's work too. Especially his primates like in Gorillas in the Mist, Mighty Joe Young, and yes, even the suit he wore in King Kong(1976).

Tom Savini's top of my tree for his work on the Romero flicks, Maniac and The Burning (to name just a few).

I was blown away by Dick Smith's make-up in The Exorcist...awesome.

Savini is a must, but I also like the works of KNB.

Savini specifically for gore, but I gotta go with Rick Baker in general.

Savini, no doubt there. I know it sounds silly, but nobody makes a slashing throat like Tom. Rob Bottin, Rick Baker, Dick Smith, Chris Tucker, and Jack Pierce are all superb too. And lets not forget the man who started it all; Lon Chaney.

Savini seems to be the popular answer here, but I'm gonna go with Rob Bottin. I just watched The Thing yesterday and it reminded me that Bottin's effects for that movie were not only ahead of their time in '82, but remain ahead of their time today. Savini is a close second for me though, since he has worked on some of my favorite classics like Dawn of the Dead, F13th, and NOTLD '90.

I think Tom Savini for bloody gore (think "Maniac" and you know what I mean) and Rob Bottin for the more creature-type effects (love "The Thing," for instance).

There are many, many good F/X guys out there - some of the Euro guys who work with Argento, Fulci, etc., are outstanding as well.

I still don't think anyone has bettered Rob Bottin's alien sequences in John Carpenter's The Thing. But yeah, Savini and Baker are both legends as well.

Gionetto de Rossi too.
