Does anyone know where I can preorder the unrated DVD of Requiem for a Dream, because all I can find is the damn R rated version. I already had to cancel a preorder from a few months back because it changed to the R rated version.   Please let me know where I can find the true version. Thanks!

I preordered the unrated version from Amazon. It'll get sent back if they send me the acursed R-rated variation.

I just got mine today at my local mall's Saturday Matinee store for 24.99 (also got Big Trouble in Little China for 21.99). Really great film, but very draining. I haven't been keeping up with release dates or anything, but I'm guessing it's not supposed to be released yet since you're all talking about preorders. Is that accurate?

I believe the VHS comes in R or unrated versions, but the DVD only comes in the "special director's cut," so there's only one version to be had... Could be wrong (but I hope not, 'cause I've had it on preorder for ages, too, and don't particularly feel like having to return anything.
Release date is May 22.

I digress. Amazon lists a special edition, with commentary, etc, and a no frills edition. Don't know if both are unrated or what, though...
Here's how it's working: The unrated cut is a special edition, and the R-rated cut is a bare bones edition (no commentary, etc). Arnofsky supposedly didn't want to participate in the cut version. Cool guy.
But will it have the same effect on the small screen? Guess we'll find out soon

Being concerned about this, I wrote to Amazon.com to question which version they intend on carrying. Right off the bat teh rep that responded proved to be unreliable, stating that she or he (they had a rather off kind of name) looked at my account and said that I had already cancelled the item. Ahemm, no I didn't and it's still right there in my account history. Then this rep said that they were only going to carry the R rated cut. But as I said, this rep isn't very reliable concidering the initial comment she or he made. So I wrote tehm back, once again explaning my concerns and then my anger toward incompetant reps, and requested a reliable rep write me back. SO that's what I am waiting on now. Perhaps I should just cancell the item and buy it in a walk-in store so that there is no confusion.

He probably means buy.com, which Reel links to...

Just heard back from Amazon.com, they are not going to carry the unrated version. So, I cancelled the item. I will just wait until it is released and buy it at a brick store so that I KNOW what I am getting.
