Notld 3d

Hey all...

I was just wondering if anyone knew if the NOTLD that is coming out in 3D uses the field-sequential system discussed in several other posts? If so, i think this may actually be something worth picking up

I dont know what it will utilize, but I'm going to pick it up. I'd love to see how they make NOTLD 3-D. It seems like a trip since its B&W and I dont think anyones ever seen it in 3-D.

well, if you look at the websites that are creating this movie, they are the ones that utilize that system ofd 3D -- so it may be the good system that this will use....!

Without checking the links but seeing who is doing it, I would say that yes it will be one of those field squencial deals.

I got 2 sets of glasses in the IMAX pack and they work pretty cool actually.

Hey, better yet, why don't they use computers and COLORIZE the movie??!?

Or, they could film some new scenes, and splice them into the film, along with some modern music!

I hate to piss on everyone's parade, but why is some bastardization of a film acceptable, and other changes are not? Romero didn't film in 3-D, why should we want to see that? Especially since it wouldn't be real 3-D, but rather a cheesy add-on gimmick.

The film is fine, leave it alone.

As long as they don't change the story at all then I don't see any harm in it. Also it includes the original 2d version so if ya don't like the 3d and don't have NOTLD (who in the hell doesn't?) then you should pick it up. Can't wait to see the reviews on it.

Nahhhh, I like gimmicky 3-D effects. And I don't think it's a bastardization of the film, though I belive that is ones opinion.

Is a Dolby 5.1 soundtrack for NOTLD a bastardization? After all, Romero created it in mono.

In an English dub on a foreign language movie a bastardization? I don't think so, though I prefer English subs with the original language myself.

Is adding scenes and, more importantly, cutting out existing scenes a bastardization? I say HELL YES.

I think you're comparing apples and oranges here, Paff. And as someone said, both the 2d and 3d versions will be included. At least they're offering both versions, unlike the hack 30th Anniv. ed of NOTLD. I for one think it would be cool to have some 3d zombies coming at me. :)

Well, when I mentioned colorizing it, I was being facetious of course. Yes, I know they already did it, and it was terrible. That's why I brought it up.

Now, for the rest of it, you do bring up an interesting point Dave; What is and what is not acceptable re-tooling of a film?
Honestly, I DO believe giving it a 5.1 soundtrack is bastardization, though I'm guilty of listening to those "bastardized" tracks, so call me a hypocrite. But if you notice in my reviews, I often rail on the over "gimmicky" re-mixes of mono movies, giving them surrounds when they never existed. When they use 5.1 to give the music a "fuller" sound, I'm ok with it.

But back to NOTLD 3-D, it's tough because that WOULD have been a good movie in 3-D. But it wasn't filmed that way. And I have to believe that if they do try this 3-D revision, it will be excessively gimmicky, no? People don't want 3-D for depth and reality, they want stuff coming out of the screen. Crowd pleasers. You know, making the effort of wearing clunky glasses worthwhile.
There's a great possibility that this could make the movie "goofy" where it wasn't meant to be, or have people concentrating on effects when they should be focussing on dialogue or characters.

I LOVE 3-D movies, but it's almost always used for gimmicks and over-the-top stuff (yes, I know Creature from the Black Lagoon and Dial M for Murder are "serious" 3-D films. Those are the exceptions, not the rule), and NOTLD is one of the great serious horror films of all time. It's downbeat and depressing, not flashy at all, and 3-D is one of the most flashy film techniques in existence.

But this is what ol' Georgie gets for letting his film go Public Domain.
