I found a bit of news for this re-re-re-release of Halloween.

I hope it has the features of the LE DVD so I can get rid of that. I don't need three versions of Halloween all from Anchor Bay.

pretty cool news thrash harder

From Creature Corner:

Well, those resourceful AMC folk have discovered, while prepping a ‘Backstory’ on ‘Halloween’, that someone was actually on the set of original ‘Halloween’ getting behind-the-scenes footage......and that footage has been found.

Dammit!!! If they plug in a DTS-ES track and the commmentary (which I already have anyway), I may just have to buy this film AGAIN! We'll see, I have bought Halloween more than any other movie, so I should be used to it by now.

Everything I've heard says it's gonna have a new commentary, not the Criterion laserdisc one.
I'm not really looking forward to buying this again, but from all the news I've heard I'm gonna have to just to satisfy my inner dork.:(
May be time for the LE to hit ebay!

hell ya!

Good news seeing as i don't have this on DVD yet.

08-22-2002, 02:04 AM
I still haven't buy Halloween on DVD yet so I'm really looking forward for this release ;)

08-22-2002, 02:16 AM
The thought of seeing new footage behind-the-scenes on this classic is just too much! I can't wait for this, even though I have bought Halloween two times before...

08-22-2002, 03:42 AM
I seem to recall that they're trying to get the Criterion commentary, but don't want to say anything yet because of what happened with "Within the Woods."

08-22-2002, 10:16 AM
Man, I hope this version will be included in the upcoming UK box set.

08-22-2002, 03:55 PM
Dammit! You had to bring up Within the Woods didn't you? That still has me pissed.

hell ya!
08-22-2002, 05:09 PM
get over it:p

A commentary with John Carpenter will really make or break this purchase for me. JC's commentaries are the best ever to listen too--they are fun and informative all the way through (scratch "fun" for In the Mouth of Madness). Without the commentary from the Criterion LD or a newly recorded one with JC, this disc will be a very tough purchase. An SE of Carpenter's films just isn't the same without his commentary on it.

No I will NOT get over Within the Woods!

rhett, In The Mouth of Madness has one of THE worst commentaries ever. Carpenter does his best to keep us informed, but the other guy that's there (cinematographer is it?) is not interested in participating at all and barely responds to JC's remarks.

The ITMOM commentary sounded to me like it was recorded for use in a film class or something. Very interesting from a purly technical standpoint, but none of the fun behind the scenes stories we've come to expect from things like The Thing commentary. Can't wait to hear what the man has to say about The Fog. Only a few days left ;)

08-23-2002, 04:24 AM
The Fog commentary is nowhere near as bad as Mouth O Madness, but nowhere near as good as The Thing.
It's been a while since I listened to the laserdisc (which is being ported over to the dvd), but I remember it being a more informative than funny track. Debra Hill joins him on this.

Less than a month to go. I'm really looking forward to this. Should be the best looking transfer yet:D The new docs should be fun. Waiting for the first reviews to show up:nervous:

07-12-2003, 07:41 PM
I thought that what happened with Within the woods was that every source they could find (including the original negative) looked absolutely shit.

07-12-2003, 07:45 PM
naw, it was other "actors" complaining about the use of their image.

07-12-2003, 10:56 PM
I too am looking forward to this release. I used to own the previous Halloween DVD but got rid of it so I can get this one. :p

07-12-2003, 10:59 PM
Kinda stinks that they prob. aren't going to do a new commentary for the disk. I mean, it is the 25th anniversary

07-12-2003, 11:37 PM
The Criterion commentary is great; there's no need to record a new one. That's rather pointless.

07-13-2003, 01:55 AM
I guess your right. Everyone says how good the commentarys are. This'll be my first HALLOWEEN dvd. Guess I waited for just the right time. I own a bunch on vhs.

07-13-2003, 02:35 AM
Debra Hill did a great job with THE FOG commentary. She was really prepared, and her and JC spoke about pretty much everything there was to know about the film. For me it is one of the best commentaries I've listened to. I still haven't heard the HALLOWEEN commentary, so I really have some high hopes. It should be a fantastic disc!

Well, this will be the third time I've bought this movie on DVD, plus once on VHS, but I suppose I'll have to do it again. I'm not looking forward to this one as much as a lot of people seem to be, since I already have what I consider a good (AB LE) DVD version of it, but if the reviews of the video/audio are good and if the extras are good and if the price is right and if I don't have anything else that I want to spend my money on that day and...

Anyone see my custom coverart for this new edition?http://www.horrordvds.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13494

I'd like to see that one AND a new one, although judging from Carpenter's comms on the R2 They Live and POD, he doesn't remember shit!

I guess I wasn't the only one who found those films forgettable! Just kiddin'. I wish Village of the Damned had a commentary.

07-13-2003, 09:52 AM
I'd like to see/hear comm on ALL Carpenter's films. Even though his memory is failing, the comm tracks were still enjoyable. For the love of God, re-do In The Mouth Of Madness. If I wanted to be a cimematgrapher, that track would still suck!

07-13-2003, 05:47 PM
Whadda mean his memory is fading? When I saw him on my HALLOWEEN tape he looked old!

07-23-2003, 02:49 AM
If anyone knows of a review of this title yet, please let me know! I'm dying to hear about it.

07-25-2003, 01:35 AM
Can anyone tell me if this has a THX or DTS soundtrack. Can not wait to get my hands on this one.I do know it is a high definition print.

07-25-2003, 05:44 AM
WTF? I didn't know there was a Halloween 25. Can someone please fill me in?? :eek2:

Man, I missed parts 8-24, looks like a lot of catching up to do!:D

Seriously though, I'm sure he's refering to the 25th anniversary edition. I'm pretty sure it will just have a 5.1 track and not DTS, I'll check for specs and get back.

07-26-2003, 12:20 AM
Here's what I've found.
On Anchor bay's site it doesn't mention the audio at all!
On dvdpricesearch it says 5.1, nothing about DTS.
No word of audio on dvdempire
deepdiscount says 5.1, no DTS

I'm not checking every site, so I'd say it's gonna be 5.1 and not DTS. The extras and comm. are probably gonna make me buy a copy though, even though I have the Criterion laserdisc with the comm. already. It'll be nice to listen to it un-interupted by side breaks!
