Frighteners

Hey all...

I knwo that a Meet The Feebles SE DVD is in the works, and i was just wondering if anyone knew about an SE edition of the frighteners. I know we all want it, but i wanted to see if there were any new projects out there... I am suprised that MTF would get the SE treatment before the Frighteners... I just dont want to buy the reg. ed. of the frighteners only to have the SE come out soon after....

Ahhh...the infamous Frighteners debate. I'm always torn between selling my SE LD and keeping it. If I keep it, it's essentially worthless if an SE DVD is announced. If I don't keep it, I lose one of my favorite special editions. I always lean towards keeping it because we're dealing with Universal here. The Frighteners SE LD has 4.5 hours of supplements on it. That alone would have to be spread over 2 DVDs, meaning they would realistically have to release a 3-disc DVD to keep all the laserdisc material. Now, considering Jaws doesn't even get a 2-disc DVD to keep the entire 2 hour documentary, what chances does The Frighteners have? Very little. They could do an 'Ultimate Edition', but I can see them cutting that documentary down to 2 - 3 hours to keep it at 2 discs.

You would think they'd want to cash in on Peter Jackson's popularity right now. I'd have no problem with a 'From the Director of Lord of the Rings' sticker being plastered on the front cover. Unfortunately, Universal is mums on a Frighteners SE. DVD File occasionally asks them about it. Last I read there were some legal issues surrounding the supplements.

Of all the things I want in the world, a Frighteners SE with the documentary intact is very high on the list :D

Can't someone force Universal to put this on DVD?!

Fangoria has the Frighteners SE listed under "Future Undated", so apparently it's coming. But it's probably gonna be a while. Hopefully it will be unrated like the LD. BTW, how many damn times am I gonna have to buy Meet the Feebles before someone gets it right? I'm glad Anchor Bay finally grabbed this one!:cool:

There's no way the whole documentary will make it if the SE ever happens. I just wish I could afford the laserdisc, but demand is way too high. I could drop maybe $50 on it, but not $150+

I don't believe Fangoria's page myself. It's not that I don't want to see an SE DVD. I think that would be great, especially if it had all the extras. It's just no other site has had news on a Frighteners SE. I ask Universal myself every so often and the answer is always "nothing planned at this time."

We can always hope. P.J. has two more box office smashes coming. Hopefully Universal will wake up and cash in.

I'd love to see a SE of this and to tell you the truth, a SE wouldnt surprise me seeing as how Jackson has been cleaning up at the box office and on home video as of late.
