Although we all have the horror genre as a shared love, I was wondering "What are your favourite 'sub-divisions' of this?" If pushed for an answer, I guess my favourite type of horror film would the "Dario Argento/Italian horror movie". It's a difficult choice, though. I really like zombie movies, maniac on the loose movies and supernatural flicks like The Omen and The Exorcist. Something which tends to be forgotten about on this forum is the Manga horror genre. Anyone favour this style of over-the-top shocks and spills? Lastly, what about Japan Shock movies? I find them okay on occasion but I don't think I could stomach a night's viewing of back-to-back Guts of a Virgin/Guinea Pig/Naked Blood style-movies!

Zombies. Definitely zombies.

"You know the rules, when we work undercover we have to remain faceless."
"Oh, I get it, just in case we kill lots of innocent people."

My favorite horror sub-genres are slashers, zombies, gore fests, and horror comedies.

Same as Vdlman, and...wow, in that order, too.

I really like the Subspecies series, though Part 4 kinda sucked. Kudos to Full Moon for producing such a great trilogy.

Kinda like Vdlman and CTyner, but in slightly different order and with a clear-cut fave: slashers by far (especially the really good and really bad ones) then gorefests, zombies and (spoof/B-grade) comedies.

Though sometimes it depends on the title: Dawn of the Dead is an all-time favorite, for instance, but I'm not as much of a zombie fan as many others.

For me its Slashers by a long shot, then horror comedies, supernatural and alien films.

Looks like Slashers win the day, then. Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Horror/Fantasy would have to be my fav sub-genre... Hellraiser, Naked Lunch and eXistenZ.

Werewolves are awesome!... The Howling, American Werewolf. They need to make MORE!

Zombies... scare me to no end. One of my fav scenes is in Zombie, you know the fight between the shark and the fat dead guy underwater. It was very surreal, perhaps that falls into the fantasy/horror category. And who can ever forget the eye thing. Wow!

And Anything by Argento.

"Didn't they tell you Kirsty, the rules of the fairy tale have changed. Not only am I the wicked stepmother, but I'm also the evil queen. So come on! Take your best shot, Snow White!"
- Julia (Claire Higgings)
Hellbound: Hellraiser 2

"If I go crazy then will you still call me Superman?"
... who knows, its on the radio all the time.

ZOMBIES! I agree with David666 on the eye damage scene from Fulci's Zombie. I show it to all my friends and they of course think I'm a filthy psycho, but it's all good!

Zombies....big time!

02-15-2006, 11:44 PM
Wow, an old thread but fun none the less.

I'd have to go with Gothic Horror as my top choice, but then anything along the classic line is good for me too. So the early Universal and Warner stuff (two strip technicolor is a fasination of mine), Roger Corman's Poe series, Hammer, Amicus, Coffin Joe, Mario Bava, Suspiria, Dellamorte Dellamore and I think Full Moon does a good job a contemporary gothic-esque tales.

I also like Zombies, Japanese Shock and Mondo. About zombies though, I kinda toss in animated inanimate objects as another like. So not only Frankenstein and zombies but stuff like Puppet Master as well.

Creature Features and Zombies rule the day for me.

02-15-2006, 11:50 PM
zombies, slasher, exploitation

02-16-2006, 03:15 PM
Sci-fi horror - anything in outer space. Good or bad, love 'em all.

Creatures - spiders, komodos, whatever. They tend to be drawn to attack large breasted women in tight T-shirts.

Gothic - huge Dark Shadows fan, but just about anything will do.

Slashers. See creatures above.

After discovering movies like Intruder, The Prowler, Friday The 13th, Maniac, etc, I would definitely cast a vote for the Slasher Genre.

After watching Lady Terminator, I might even give a little vote to Indonesian Horror too, just for the hilarity of it all.

02-16-2006, 07:02 PM
Slashers followed closely by zombies.

02-16-2006, 07:09 PM
Yup. Slashers for me, too.

Also love films where the serial killer is the lead (Maniac, Ted Bundy, American Psycho), and revenge/exploitation stuff (I Spit on your Grave, Ms .45)

and I'll throw in a vote for stuff concerning mutations of any sort (The Fly, The Howling, Street Trash).
