I would have to give it to ol' Jack Burton and the Pork Chop Express in Big Trouble in Little China. Followed closely by his performance in The Thing.

MacReady in THE THING. I just loved his character in this masterpiece, as well as EVERY other character in the film.

"Sonofabitch must pay!

Its not my favorite Carpenter/Russell collaboration, but Jack Burton is easily Kurt Russell's best character. he went all out for this one!

I know I am the minority here, but the one I quote the most, and probably like the best (they are all great) is Snake from Escape From L.A.. A close second would be Jack Burton though, "I know a thing or two about a thing or two!"

Nice poll, McBride!

All of those films are great but Jack Burton has always been my favorite. Too bad a sequel (with the original cast) was made.

Even though my favorite Carpenter/Russel collaboration is The Thing, my favorite character of Russel's was Jack Burton. He was made for that role and did a damn good job in it.

Bringing back an old thread because I rewatched "Escape from LA" last night and felt compelled to show it a little love. Kurt is such a bad ass as Snake in that movie, I could watch that one any time of the day or night. I love that movie damn it.

Besides, anyone who just turns the whole damn world off is ok by me.

I can't call it!
MacReady and Jack are both awesome characters and performances. I still haven't seen Elvis, though I doubt that would sway my vote anyway, I just wanna see it sometime.
Then again Snake from BOTH the "Escape" movies was the shit as well.
I'll go "all of the above, minus Elvis!"

I think I am going to have a 4th of July Kurt Russell marathon over here at casa onebyone. Seriously, I am just in the mood for his special brand of badass.

Escape from LA is my absolute favorite, but I love all these performances.

It's been a while since ive seen The Thing so i cant really vote on that...

toss up between Jack Burton and Snake (both movies)... to be honest i reckon both characters are very similar.. id really like to pick all 3.. but... you really cant go past Jack Burton so that gets my vote.. what was that someone was saying about a sequel with the original cast being made?

I enjoyed Russell's performances in all of these movies, but I immediately thought of Big Trouble In Little China when I saw the title of the poll. So without a doubt I have to vote for Jack Burton! :D

This may not be the right place for it, seeing excape from LA up there made me think of the terrible performance by Peter Fonda. I mean, jesus how did he go from easy rider to some burned out surfer? That was a sad sad film for him. Snake still kicked ass though, an he looked damn good in that anti-heat-whatever gear.

But three years after his wasted cameo in Escape from LA, Peter Fonda delivered a great performance as Terry Valentine in The Limey.

Since I voted for Jack Burton in the other Carpenter thread, I gave MacReady some love here. Onebyone has the right idea with that Kurt Russell Marathon... I'm pretty sure he can do no wrong in my eyes.

Jack Burton from BTILC for me. Though McReady was very good as well, Burton edges him out.
