what is the deal w/ the additional tv footage added in. Is this the better version? Should I go w/ the original? All help is much appreciated.
Not only should you go with the original, you should AVOID the added TV scenes.
Those scenes were added to pad the running time to 2 hours with commercials. They were filmed in 1981, when Halloween 2 was being made. The biggest problem is that they are part of the whole "Laurie Strode is Michael Myers' sister" story arc, the reason I hate all the sequels. I love the randomness of the original, the idea that Michael Myers just kills for no reason. Makes it scarier.

Agreed to some extent. They are pretty worthless, but for me (someone who watched the same VHS 20-some times) it was awesome to see some different footage. Not especially important, but hey if you're interested you should snag it. I don't think it's more than $15 at most places. It also comes with a cool film cell display, but that offer may have since ended. Be warned it's only in mono as well, whereas the standard edition has a great DD 5.1 track.

I like the TV cut of the film and prefer watching that to the original. I like any film that has added scenes incorporated back into it and I feel Halloween's scenes give more depth to some of the storyline of an already great film.
I really wish Anchor Bay would've put the TV cut on the regular HALLOWEEN disc instead of that useless pan and scan version.

What pan and scan version? Halloween and the Extended Cut are on two seperate discs.
I prefer the original cut to the extended one, because it makes the film tighter and less complex. The reason the film works so well is that the story is so simple, and Paff's right, the randomness is much more creepy. The TV cut is still very good though, and I recommend you watch it. There are some great scenes with Donald Pleasence and the young Michael Myers.

Oh God. The TV version is a total waste of time. I don't subscribe to the iea that any additions are worthy. In this case, we have an added scene where the Donald Pleasant is brought before a board review - where they are in a huge auditorium with only three people in it. It adds nothing. We have Laura talking to her friend about what clothes they should wear - and other silly wasteful crapola.
There is no comparison, the original is the original. It is far far better. Yes, I have both, both on AB. I really have no ue for the TV version, with any luck I'll never have to see it again.

yea i pretty much agree, the TV version isnt anything special. i own both versions just to own both versions, but its nothing to go out of your way for. if you can get the one that comes with the cel, then thats really cool.. but i think that ended quite awhile ago
