Now that we know it is coming out, what is the rumors surrounding the extra materials? Isn't there supposed to be an extended cut? I also heard 2 discs a while back. Anyone?....

The words 'Superbit' and 'extras' are as good of an oxymoron as I can think of. I doubt there will be any extras on this release, and if there is, making the title a Superbit Deluxe, it would only be material from the previous DVD. As far as I know an SE is still planned, but we will have to wait for a needless Superbit title first.

This is mixed news for me...I didnt buy the first release cause I was waiting for the better second edition but if this is all we are getting then I guess it will have to do. Now I would be really pissed if in mid 2003 we get a SE.

There will be three versions of this when the SB hits. A SE, the Superbit and the original.

Are you saying there will be a SE released between now and the the Superbit release? I am not aware of a Resident Evil SE released in any region. Am I wrong?
An SE will eventually hit down the road. Not until later this year or even 2003. The superbit is coming first, and it will have no extras on it.

Well, in that case, I will skip the Superbit and the SE and wait for the Superbit Resident Evil Special Edition. I'll give that till the end of 2003.

I thought the SE was coming first, wrongly. :o
Superbit streets on 12/17,the SE still doesnt have a date but they announced a commentary with Anderson, Bolt, Jovovich, and Rodriguez and two documentaries.
There was very little cut from this movie so its not like were gonna be getting a unrated gorefest ever. So 3 versions of this and flicks like Freaks languish.
Bah.

Honestly, this movie was alright, not enough for me to drool over extras and the like and Superbit is worth it. Superbit for me!

They better not give this one the Dracula treatment and deliver a lame-ass SuperShit title and welch on the planned SE. I really hate Columbia these days.

I am dying to by the film, but I will definitely wait for a 2 disc set, and an unrated version. The superbit is only interesting to people who have a system worthy of such a transfer, and I'd rather have more extras on the disc, so if I picked one up, it'd be the first version. There's probably a lot of used ones lying around by now, so I might get one to hold me over until the spec. ed.

U know, that's an EXCELLENT point! I bought this title when it 1st came out. Gazillions of years later, all we get is the Superbit. I finally gave in to buying the Superbit when deepdiscountdvd did that "buy Panic Room & another Superbit title, get another free" (which I kinda regret getting 'cause I notice only minimal differences on a standard 50" screen). Man, but now that I think about it, I have not seen one "behind the scene" on this excellent title! Hmph!!
I guess I bought into CTHV's marketing scheme, I won't let it happen again, particularly with Resident Evil.

Yeah there was. That's what the big hoopla for the SE is all about.
I think.

ARROW: I heard that there was some gore cut out of the film to get the R rating, is that true?
PAUL: Not really, we got the R rating the first time we showed Resident Evil to the boards. It was a little on the edge when we got it, though I think with Event Horizon I got a lot of experience on what the ratings boards will or will not accept for an R rating, so I kept that in mind while we were shooting the film. Like when the lasers cut up Collins, I knew when he fell apart, I wanted to see the inside of his head, to see what his brain looked like. And incidentally, everything in the laser corridor scene is anatomically correct. If someone was to chop your head off, that’s what the stump of your neck would look like and the inside of Collins' brain, that’s exactly the color and the consistency of what the inside of your head looks like. I knew I wanted that but also knew that if we shot it and it would be in crisp focus we would’ve gotten an NC-17 and would’ve had to cut around it. So that’s why we did the focus towards Milla’s face in the background. You still see the brain and everything but its just slightly soft. That was really to ensure that we got the R rating rather than having to re-cut and then not see anything. Yes, there was gore cut out that’s not in the movie...but not a huge amount.
ARROW: Will it ever pop up on another issue of the DVD?
PAUL: Maybe in the future, but I am very happy with the cut of the movie as it is now, so it's not something I’d like to go back to.
