As noted in Entertainment Weekly:

10/26 - Backstory: Halloween

What did the cutting-room floor of this slasher flick look like? See deleted scenes and hear gore master John Carpenter's and ex-Voicestream vixen Jaime Lee Curtis' reflections.

[AMC, 10-11p.m.]

I wander what all is going to be on this? Hopefully, it is pretty good!

Cool! I love AMC's Backstory series.

Maybe they will talk about the 5 dozen versions of Halloween that have had dvd releases:D

If there are deleted scenes from Halloween, then why have they not been on any of the 5 dozen dvd releases?:(
They can't be talking about the TV stuff, cuz that was filmed long after the cutting room.
WTF
Can somebody tape this for me? I don't get that channel and would love to see this. I can either tape something for you and trade (no macro-vision on my dvd player), or cover the cost of a tape and postage.
Let me know either here or at bigdaddyhorse420@yahoo.com
Thanks,
Dave

Bigdaddyhorse, usually in the instance of things being left on the cutting room floor, the scenes in question might be snippets of frames or seconds trimmed off scenes, or scenes that just didn't work. Maybe all takes of one scene were bad, and the scene wasn't necessary, so it was cut entirely. Also, there might be alternate takes and angles. Take just about any script and compare it with the theatrical or director's cut release, and you'll see small scenes and excerpts of dialogue that didn't make it in.

More deleted scenes, maybe it will be on next years 25th Anniversary Edition.

I liked the Backstory they did on Predator, so I'll for sure give this one a watch. Are they showing the film after it too? Not that any of us should care, since we have the disc, but still...

I'm looking forward to AMC's Backstory of HALLOWEEN, I love the film and it will be great to see what AMC has in store for this episode.

I believe that AMC will be showing HALLOWEEN 1 & 2, and John Carpenter will be hosting some Horror Films this October as well, so AMC has some good stuff coming up.

DefJeff, AMC usually plays MA rated films, will almost all violence and language in tact. I think, however they edit out nudity and the words shit and fuck. I'm not quite sure about nudity though. Shit, I wish I had AMC here at Temple.

I've seen quite a few films on AMC where violence was cut and cut pretty bad. Keep your fingers crossed is all I can say. :)

You guys don't forget that this is coming on. I set up my Tivo to record it. It is followed by Halloween 2, 3, 4, and 5. Then they repeat the whole thing again.

It's a good documentary, hope it's on ABs DVD next year. It's on later today and probably many times this week.

You beat me to the punch. I was reading my Entertainment Weekly, and they advertised it. I am taping it and putting it on vcd. I am going to watch that Barker film on Scifi instead

Got it! I am going to watch this tonight. I saw a commercial for it and it looked great.

The version for Halloween 2 that AMC is showing is the TV cut. It has extra scenes and an alternate ending gor those interested.

I'm watching it now. I don't know if it just started or it's ending. I think it's the latter :nervous:

Fuck, I was right.

I'll catch that Backstory this weekend hopefully. Im not so sure how that Barker film on Sci-Fi will be, I hope it doesnt suck.

I taped it... It's on again at 6:00am Central/ 7:00am Eastern for you insomniac night owls (and early birds) out there. :)

It was pretty interesting, though I don't really know what is that new on there. I remember them saying Christopher Lee passed on one of the roles and said it was the biggest mistake of his career.

AMC has regular commercial intervals now as well as the films being cut. :(

I hope it ends up on that AB 3 disc set as well.

I was disappointed with the Backstory. Almost everything covered was gone over in the Halloween Unmasked documentary on the 2-disc LE of Halloween, released in 1999. No new scenes or photographs were shown, although some on-screen footage was.

I'd much rather see a Backstory on the other installments of Halloween, esp 2 and 4

I'd like to see a Backstory on Friday the 13th (or the entire series in a two hour special); especially since Paramount doesn't seem to want to give us any extras.

But that's a whole 'nother topic...

I found the Backstory on Halloween to be fine....although there was really nothing new for those who have consumed a steady diet of Criterion commentaries and dvd featurettes. One particular note of interest though was when executive producer Moustapha "Look in my pupils and you will see dollar signs" Akkad revealed that he will only make Halloween sequels up to 22 films! I kept waiting for Moustapha to crack a smile....chuckle....or something to let us know that he was obviously joking.......and I'm still waiting..............

Seeing some pics of Jamie Lee from Backstory, didn't know she was a heavy smoker.

Two things stick out from that show.

Donald Pleasence's reaction to Carpenter's direction of Michael seeing his sister commiting the sexual act.

Shatner's reaction that he was the success of the movie.

I liked John Carpenter's hair back in the late 70's. :D

Yeah, I didn't know it was a Shatner mask.

M. Akkad has said this in numerous interviews actually (guy obvisiously likes to repeat himself...lol). if i'm not mistaken, he's mentioned it on the AB Halloween 4 & 5 dvd featurettes.

I hope I didn't paint myself as a fan of the HALLOWEEN sequels (although I enjoy HALLOWEEN 3.....which is, more or less, a sequel by name only) because I really have no interest in the sequels....I always felt that the ending of HALLOWEEN was perfect and that there was no need to further the story.......

As for Moustapha Akkad's (mis)handling of the sequels, I have no problem with a businessman looking at his films as products rather than as art forms.........but, at what point does it become ludicrous? Quite frankly, HALLOWEEN II was a bad, pointless sequel, which added NOTHING to the original......and the resulting Myers-related sequels just went further and further downhill.............

I think the series should've ended at 4. 5 through 8 ALL suck, IMO.
