Phantasm 2 & 3 - to buy or not to buy?

What do you guys think? PAL DVDs or NTSC laserdiscs? PAL DVDs are temping, even though they're Pan & Scan (so are the NTSC LDs btw). Here's why:

Phantasm 2 PAL DVD:

Fangoria TV Spot Starring Angus Scrimm. Interview with ANgus Scrimm. US TV Spots. Theatrical Trailer. Photo Library.

Phantasm 3 PAL DVD:

Deleted Scenes. Theatrical Trailer. Photo Library.

I hear the transfers aren't all that hot, so I'm not sure what to do. All I know is there's a space between Phantasm I and Phantasm IV DVDs on my shelf that needs filling.

I know Big Emma's has a 2-pack of the first two movies on LD for $15. The first one is pretty useless if you have the special edition, but even just getting the second one for $15 ain't a bad deal.

Dave, I have the NTSC laser discs and, from what I remember, the quality was good. It's been a long time since I viewed them, though. The tempting thing about the DVDs is obviously the extras but surely it's only a matter of time before a US studio releases the definitive collection?

Hi Dave i have the Pal Phantasm 3 disk box set, the image quality is not to bad, much better than most U.K. pal region 2 disks, i just bought Alligator (One of my favourite monster movies) a film that definitely deserves better treatment no extras, the image is not to bad but a lot of bleeding in the dark scenes, i buy a lot of region 1 horror disks from the States and the quality is so much better, ive just ordered The Mutilator on Pal from Vipco which is supposed to contain more gore than the U.K. VHS release but im not holding my breath about the image or extra quality as Vipco tend not to stretch themselves.

Five bucks says that most of the extras you mentioned on Phantasm 2 (interview, Fango ad) are the same as the ones that are on the MGM DVD or Image SE LD.

As for 3, I have the original cut of it and if memory serves me you ain't missing much more then some extra blood.

Get the LDs...
