There's the Cannibal Holocaust & the savage cinema of Ruggero Deodato.

And maybe a couple of issues of Video Watchdog, they usually cover the genre when there are new releases. Number 91 has a review of Jungle Holocaust for example.

There is a bit of stuff in Killing For Culture by David Kerekes... but that mostly talks about Mondo and Death Films and stuff. Though there is a discussion on Cannibal Holocaust. :)

Comic artist and genre scribe Steve Bissette has been working on a full-length book dedicated to the subject for a long time, no clue when it'll finally be published though. However, there's an long article version available as part of the Deep Red Horror Handbook that's definitely worth digging up.

Excellent choice for a film report!!! Both of those books you posted as owning mention all of the italian cannibal films, but here's the rest of the list anyway...

- Man From Deep River (the very first italian cannibal film)
aka, Deep River Savages, Mondo Cannibale
directed by Umberto Lenzi

- Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals
aka, Trap Them and Kill Them
directed by Joe D'Amato (actually Aristide Massaccesi)

- Mountain of the Cannibal God
aka, Slave of the Cannibal God
directed by Sergio Martino

- Amazonia: The Catherine Miles Story
aka, Cannibal Holocaust 2
directed by Roy Garret (actually Mario Gariazzo)

- Massacre in Dinosaur Valley
aka, Cannibal Ferox 2, Amazonas, etc.
directed by Michele Massimo Tarantini

- Cut and Run
aka, Amazon: Savage Adventure, etc.
directed by Ruggero Deodato

Also Zombie Holocaust, Hell of the Living Dead & Cannibal Apocalypse should be mentioned but CA doesn't take place in a jungle and both ZH and HOTLD can't decide whether they're a cannibal or zombie film.

Your right. I was really "iffy" on including that title but figured someone would complain that it wasn't listed. Alot of people consider it a third installment of Ruggero Deodato's "Cannibal Trilogy". It's hard to argue since it does ride on a fine line. But then again so doesn't Massacre in Dinosaur Valley.

haha yea it isnt for high school. It is for a class i am taking at University. I'm majoring in Film Production, but we also have to take some film 'studies' classes and write essays. Most people are writing about the same things...ala Alfred Hitchkock(spelling?) films, Dogma 95 films, canadian experimental films, etc. I can name at least 10 people writing an essay on dogma 95.

but i bet i cant name any other people writing an essay on italian cannibal films!! :D

That is definitely a cool topic skinny. If you can, you should post the essay in this thread when you are done. I'd love to read it.
