Is this film any good (gory, gloomy)? Does anyone have the new DVD release of it on Ventura? Is the release itself good (uncut)?

OOPS! Your right, DefJeff. March 25th is its release date to be specific. Nonetheless, does anyone know if the film is any good. Is it gory? Large body count? Cool story? I read a couple good things about it...

I picked this up over the weekend and have watched it twice so far. I think I'm developing an obsession towards this movie.

It really overloads your senses and gives the Italians a run for their money for making a spectacle out of a threadbare plot.

I think that is why, after the first viewing, I thought it was so-so and not as far out as the blurb on the cover led me to believe, but during the second viewing, or the second session of being assailed, I found the movie to be really, really strange with elements of story injected randomly to ratchet up the spectacle.

It should be made into an opera.

I really want to watch it again, and I feel ashamed, because I have four Netflix rentals and a half-a-dozen other movie I bought and haven't watched yet.

Oh well. Obsession is the nature of love.

I can't recommend this one enough.

Yeah, I strangely liked it quite a bit too. The more I think about it, the more I really like it. Weird...:eek2: .

A friend of mine picked this up recently at Best Buy. He still has not watched it, but I might ask to borrow it the next time that I hit his place. It sounds like it is a pretty good movie.

By the way, does anyone know if this is UNCUT or not?

Sometimes you just have to dive head first into the fire without even thinking about.

Sometimes you will die.

Other times you will win accolades.

Its been a while since the second time I watched and I'm beginning to think this is the greatest movie ever made.

I'd like to see an cross-over with Man of La Mancha. That would be cool!:glasses:

Alucarda: definitely Avant Garde in its style, and either you love it or you just say, "huh?"

I enjoyed Alucarda as "nunspoitation" and as "horror history." The costume design is intereresting, and the acting is inpired. May not be a bad idea to watch del Toro's interview before watching the film to place it in context. Also, Mondo Macabre may be a distributer to watch if this is any indication of their work...

Visually, it's a striking film. But it's one that I've never had any desire to ever watch again.

I've always enjoyed it--especially the "all hell breaks loose" ending. I think it's one of the better "nunsploitation" movies, all of which were influenced by THE DEVILS, but ALUCARDA was one of the few that seemed more of a peer than an imitator.

Why do you always ask if it was worth spending your money after you already spent it?

What sort of response are you looking for? What if we all told you, "No, you fucking idiot. You just got hosed out of $7." Would it really make any difference?

I've always wondered why people ask that question myself....if you've already bought it, why not just throw it in the player and decide for yourself?

He is really waiting for a response before he can do something crazy like actually play the DVD that he paid for in order to decide if it was worth the money or not. I mean come on guys, how else could he possibly know? By watching it and forming an opinion? Shit, he doesn't have time for that shit, it is far better to not watch it wait for a reply then decide to return it or not without watching it.

It's something called being able to return a DVD, if needed.

So let me get this straight. You are perfectly content with spending money on things you have no idea about, provided that such expenditure is validated by others on a message board. If you don't get this result, you return said item without even contemplating about how interested you were in purchasing it to begin with.

Brilliant. Let me try.

Everyone: I bought a jar of mustard yesterday for $1.78. What do you think?

What about Gulden's? I noticed in the paper today that I can save 25 cents on my next bottle, but I don't use mustard all that much. Now I am regretting my French's purchase.

What should I do???!?!?!?!

I'm starting to understand why DD asks before watching his movies. What if someone knows of a 25 cent off coupon on the DVD that he spent $7 on. He could take it back and buy the DVD elsewhere and only pay $6.75 (!!!!). I think we owe DD an apology.

If you haven't opened the French's and prefer Gulden's I think you just gotta go get your money back and pick up some Gulden's. It the only way you'll be able to sleep at night.

I don't know if I prefer Gulden's. It all depends on what you guys think.

I have a pretty strong idea of it. But, I can get a better feel of what to expect, prior to watching it. What you guys say is not the last word, just an opinion to see how you guys here in general feel about it. I'm surely not going to base my entire thesis on just one website.

Oh, and don't take every fucking word I say with literal merit.

I picked up some Coleman's mustard from the UK....I know they have a US version, but I wonder if it's worth double dipping. Can anyone who has both give a list of differences?

I like Dijon. I haven't been able to find any good dijon in Canada yet though. Not like the Dijon I had when I was in Dijon. The search continues....

And this thread goes even further off topic...

Um, I haven't seen this flick yet but I really want to. It's near the top of my Ziplist. So I should get it pretty soon.

I can't pick on DD. I do the same thing (as seen recently with my debunked Nekromantik 2 opinion seeking thread) and I find it really helpful to get opinions before buying/watching DVDs. I read reviews, find comments, search them out in DVD Delirium, etc. before spending my money. With blind buys getting out of control, sometimes its nice to have some input from people whose likes and dislikes we trust.

EDIT: I, too, have not seen Alucarda but have wanted to for quite some time.

Just saw it...

Some quick thoughts:

This movie was badass. Loved it!!! It had a really really slow 1st half, but picked up pace in the 2nd. Cool, stylish, bloody. The blood rain sequence was really Fantastic.

After watching I gotta see what else MM and Montozuma have to offer. How is Manison of Madness?

I just watched this and was very pleased with it. Wonderful imagery and a good minimal use of sound although the female screaming was a bit loud and overwhelming at times. With absolutely amazing and disturbing religious imagery and some good nudity to boot, I give this movie a 10.
I'm going to have to give Mansion of Madness a spin soon, too as I've wanted to see that for some time now. I highly doubt that I'll enjoy it as much as this film, but it shall be at least interesting I hope.
