Does anybody have that 2 disc imported set with both versions? Im so dying for this on DVD that Im considering ordering this instead of waiting a year for AB's release. Any thoughts? Any insights into the supplements AB is planning?
Thanks!

Dunno about that. Does anyone know what else is on the super long German DVD? I saw it today for about 15 euros!

the ext german dvd just combines the footage from ZOMBI with the director's cut. but all in german audio.
i wonder with AB's reissue, will the theatrical cut be the actual theatrical cut (as their 20th anniversary "theatrical cut" was not actually the TC)? if it will be the actual TC, i better hold onto the 20th anniversary dvd as it'll be yet another cut of the film.

Wow-the all new extras sound tempting, but so does owning it now...

rxfiend - I've heard that a lot, but what's the difference between AB's TC and the original TC? I'm used to the AB Director's Cut VHS, as that's pretty much what I watched every week for a few years. But yeah, what's the difference?

I read a while back that the actual theatrical cut was missing the loading dock scene with Joe Pilato, which was restored in both Anchor Bay dvds.

I like the Argento version of the dock scene

I traded for the DVD version of the Director's Cut (US) from Gunner on here and have watched it a million times.

i've never actually seen the TC, so i couldn't tell you what was added onto the AB dvd. i've just always heard that the 20th ann. dvd was a bit longer.

The difference was a mistake on Anchor Bay's part. In the original Theatrical Cut, in the dock scene, the helicoptor landing was never shown, it just cut from Peter shooting the last zombie in the project building to Flyboy finding the radio operator dead at the dock. Also, none of the confrontation between Joe Pilato/cronies & Flyboy and Fran was in, just the conversation between them after Roger & Peter show up. Also, the airport sequence runs shorter in the original TC. After the helicoptor zombie dies, it cuts to Flyboy grabbing his rifle from the chopper & taking off, with Roger watching him, then Roger follows him. None of that was in the original TC. Also, when Peter confronts Flyboy ("you never aim a gun at anybody, mister"), in the orig. TC, that scene ends after Peter says "Scary, isn't it? Isn't it?". In the extended cut, it goes on to show Peter extending his hand to Flyboy, helping him off the ground, then you see Peter put on his SWAT cap as he walks away. From what I've been told, Anchor Bay got the Theatrical Cut & "Director's Cut" reels mixed up, hence the extra two minutes that shouldn't have been included.
Now, while I'm on my soapbox, I'd like to try and persuade everyone to NOT use the term "Director's Cut" when describing the extended version of Dawn (Elite used this term when it was released on Laserdisc, and Anchor Bay's kept it up with their releases too), because technically, it's not the Director's Cut. This version was Romero's first cut of the film, rushed to completion so it could be screened at The Cannes Film Festival. After the Cannes screening, Romero made more cuts to tighten the pace a little, and rescored a few scenes with different music. That is the Theatrical Cut, which was edited and directed by Romero, which technically makes it the "Director's Cut". So everybody, try calling it The Cannes edit, or the extended version, not the "Director's Cut".

Also, if you want to see the original Theatrical Cut, but don't want to wait for the DVD release, you can easily find it on VHS and Laserdisc(however, the audio/video quality is crummy). Any VHS/Laserdisc releases by Thorn/EMI, HBO Video, and Republic/Lumiere are the original Theatrical Cut. I know AB released a VHS of the Theatrical Cut before the 20th anv. DVD & VHS was released, but I'm not sure if that's the proper version, or if it has the unnescesary footage inserted.
