I saw this at Best Buy recently.

I did not pick it up, but my friend did.

I plan on watching it, and picking it up if it is as good as the other Takasi Miike movies.

Best Buy is now carrying this title. I've been wanting to get it but it's rated "R". Does anyone know enough about this film to tell me if there's an uncut version?

I mean after all, if you watch the "R" version of Ichi The Killer, you're not watching the film.

Even though it says R I still think its uncut I own the region 2 version of the film as well the region 1 dvd and there seems to be no cuts.

I picked up the Chimera (Ventura) version at Best Buy for $17.99. It's a great film, one that defies genre really--a love story and wild adventure--a truly international film of a Brazilian guy and a Chinese girl who are trying to escape the Yakuza in Japan. You'll even hear some English in the film from one character.

As expected COLS has brilliant direction, creative cinematography, excellent violence, great casting, unforgetable characters and moments, and priceless dark humor. In addition to the story, I was fascinated to see how Miike represented the relationships and cultural biases between Japanese and Chinese in the film. Instead of fearing stereotypes, Miike exploits them, makes us laugh at them, and blows them up in our faces...I won't say any more for fear of spoilers.

The closest film I can think of to COLS is probably True Romance, but as much as I like TR, COLS is way more stylish and artistic. It's not as outrageous as Ichi and not as...(searching for word)..."crushing" as Audition, but if you like Miike, get COLS now. You won't regret it.

Said it before, and I'll say it again: Takashi Miike makes American directors look like formula-pussies who can't grow beyond paint-by-numbers.

Maybe I'll have to watch this again because upon first viewing, I wasnt a big fan of this movie. It just didnt capture me like Audition did and the Brazilian Jap. was kind of weird. I'll have to borrow this disc again and maybe realize what (if anything) I'm missing.

Well said Wermode! I whole-heartedly agree. Miike is nothing short of brilliant in his direction. I've yet to see many more of his films, but I've seen 5 so far and I'm floored by this guy.

well i hate to rain on the positive vibe of this thread, but after viewing this just now, i must say it was a HUGE peice of shit/letdown!!!!!

what a shame too, i had high hopes. i honestly think this movie was total garbage. i dont see where the praise is coming from? the lead actor was one of the biggest dorks ever put on screen. hes supposed to be cool?

bah :(

It's a shame you didn't like it. I thought the main character Mario played by an actor named Teah was pretty cool. But I found the coolest character was Fushimi played by Koji Kikkawa.
