Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines
Looks like a blu-ray is coming for Wrong Turn 5 - I haven't even seen 3 or 4 yet...

The teens in WT4 are so dumb, so stupid.... |
I love the first two, but 3 and 4 were just bad beyond belief. It looks like 5 is being directed by the same guy who did 3 and 4 so I'm going to take a wild guess and say that 5 isn't going to set the horror movie world on fire either.
|
I'll have to disagree with anyone who says 4 is horrible. It's stupid as hell but a lot of fun IMO. 3 was awful, though.
Looking forward to 5. |

I'm really looking forward to 5. |
The biggest problem with part 3 and 4 is the damn CGI gore.
Sure, part 4 had more practical to begin with, but then turned to CGI again. I donīt understand why the hell ANYONE would use CGI gore in a movie, but the last few year, this has gotten worse and worse. In part 3 the CGI FX didnīt even look like they had time to finish them. Another problem with part 4 was that it took forever before the actual massacre began, and when your having a cast of worthless actors and characters trying to carry the movie, it quickly felt like a torture test sitting through the first 45-50 minutes. Sure the acting in the classic slashers back in the 80:s wasnīt Oscars worthy, but these days itīs REALLY down to amateur/porn level. I just hate that an fantastic and underrated slasher like "Wrong Turn" is getting buried beneath these crappy DTV sequels. Oh well... |
I have liked all of them to some extent, even part 3.
|
I had a great time with part IV, not a fantastic film by any means, but good brainless entertainment.
|
All the films are brainless.
But... fun? Do you enjoy people trying to rape your head? In this case, for money? Really, I think that kind of thing comes down somewhere in the region of Contempt for your Audience. Though the first movie was just silly and bland. I'll let that one off the hook a little- it wasn't aggressively awful rather than extremely underwhelming. Which even puts it ahead of The House of the Devil in my book. That's got to be worth something. |
I thought 3 was okay, but 4 was an abomination. The entire movie is filled with characters doing the most idiotic things possible in order to eat up a few more minutes of screentime. Also, they stripped the entry of *any* creepiness it may have had by moving the action from the wide open outdoors to inside an abandoned building -- had the makers even *seen* the prior movies? Why would they think it'd be a good idea to eliminate the one thing that differentiated the series from any other generic slasher outing?
That said, I'll still give the new one a shot. Has anyone seen a trailer anywhere? I was looking for one the other day but couldn't find it. |
Contempt for your audience? I guess the Wrong Turn series can't hope to compete with the incredible intellect and riveting character development of say, the entire Friday The 13th franchise that so many here hail as pioneering for the horror genre. But hey, what the Hell...
|
I think it's about time to retire certain words used in horror sequels like "Bloodlines", "Resurrection", "Beginning" and "Final".

Despite reading nothing but bad reviews, part 4 was a ton of fun so I'm in for 5. Can one really ever have too many inbred cannibal films? Hells no! You can never have enough inbred cannibals or enough death itself stalking stupid teens. |
Another one? FUCK!

Regarding the Wrong Turn franchise, nobody is being forced to watch them. I choose to not watch the Twilight or High School Musical movies, but they seem to be doing okay. They're going on the fifth movie, so I would hope that audiences have decided whether or not they like them by now. Those that do will keep watching, those that don't would have probably stopped a sequel or two ago. If audiences weren't willing to spend money on them, they wouldn't have made it to the fifth movie. I won't disagree with you that Fox is after money. After all, it is called the movie business. But clearly they're doing something right, or the franchise wouldn't have made it this far. |
