Halloween (2007) vs Black Christmas (2006) Round 2

I dislike both. But I dislike the Black Christmas remake a lot less.

Hmmmm, this is a tough one. I don't hate either as much as most people, but I will probably take the Black Christmas remake over Halloween's. I think I need to revisit both.

I had to go with the Black Christmas remake. That movie seems to get shit on by everyone, but I thought it was so off the wall batshit nuts I couldn't not love it. Why it was made as a remake is beyond me and in that regard obviously doesn't even compare to the original nor was I expecting it to. The yellow jaundiced skin, the cannibalism, the incest, etc. It couldn't possibly have gotten further away from what the original was and really should have been a seperate entity altogether. Taken as it's own film, I loved it. I just wish they didn't call it Black Christmas. Halloween (1978) is easily my favorite film of all time so I just see Zombie's version as more of a curiousity than anything else and in the end all it accomplished was reminding me what a true cinematic masterpiece Carpenter's film really is.

You know, I look at all these remakes people think are so horrible and just remember how awful the Prom Night remake was - is there one worse than that? It makes all these others seem great.

Voted for Halloween but I do enjoy the Black Christmas remake as well.

Black Christmas by a mile, at least it was fun crap.

I don't really desire watching Michael Myers again as a whining, annoying kid.

This is awesome! While reading Mutilated Prey's post I was thinking, The Fog remake, scrolled down, and burst out laughing.

Went with Black Christmas. I hated Rob Zombie's White Trash Halloween so much I never want to see it again and wish I could erase it from my memory. The only character he tried to make sympathetic was Michael and even that didn't work. At least the cast in Black Christmas was fun.

The Halloween remake. Saw it on DVD and wished I hadn't passed on seeing it at the theater.

Black Christmas all the way cause it was fun and didn't take itself too seriously. Halloween was painful to watch and just pissed me off.

...And my vote (#16) ties it for Halloween.

I haven't seen Black Christmas since the theater, but I don't remember it being very good. I legitimately like most of the background / origin parts of RZ's Halloween.

:lol: Really? I dunno if I agree with that. I can't really remember The Fog, but Prom Night was so God awful - you can tell it was a cash in on the original based on the name alone. I'm assuming both of you have seen it?

The question is The Fog vs Prom Night, which sucks worse? I don't think I can call that, although Prom Night is fresher in mind and has the "hat of invisibility" thing going for it. I liked The Fog redo so much I threw a dub a friend gave me into the trash and haven't regretted it since. I could revisit to compare badness to Prom Night, but don't want to waste my time again.

One last question, between The Fog, Prom Night and Catwoman, which is worse? Stumped myself again!

What I really hated about Halloween '07 and Halloween II '09 is that Rob Zombie made Michael Myers look like a grungy, hillbilly, member of ZZ Top. Long hair, long beard, geez, he looked like Grizzly Adams. That was the polar opposite of what he'd been in the traditional series. Hell, half the time, he didn't even have the mask on and when he did (in Zombie's Halloween II, iirc) it was half ripped off. And what the hell was up with Myers talking! I'm refering to the "Die!" moment at the end of Halloween II. Zombie turned Michael Myers into a joke, appearance-wise anyway...

I would have prefered if Black Christmas '06 had left the killer's backstory a mystery like the '74 original, but I still enjoyed the hell out of it. Everything about this film was so much better than Zombie's trailer trash Halloween. Better story, cast, locations...
