Curtis Harrington's NIGHT TIDE (1961) from Kino 4/30
Thought I started a thread for this back in March when it was *first* announced, but guess I didn't. The release got held up for unknown reasons, but is now back on the books:
Kino Lorber strikes again, this time with a hi-def remastering of Curtis Harrington's atmospheric debut, NIGHT TIDE (1961). A young Dennis Hopper stars in the moody and mysterious story of a man slowly becoming convinced the woman he loves may be a murderous mermaid by the full moon's light. Long considered a PD title, most budget versions looked terrible and the one *good* release is now OOP. This new transfer should do wonders for the film's reputation! Very effective low budgeter, almost an art film.Has a sort of Val Lewton quality to it.Harrington was an underrated director.Fans of Dennis Hopper will definitely wanna catch this early performance.Glad it's getting a superior release.
By the way bruce h.,I've always wanted to ask, what film is your avatar photo from ? It seems familiar to me but I can't place it. |
It's from LAST HOUSE ON DEAD END STREET; an all-time favorite.
A little off-topic, but here's a review I wrote of LAST HOUSE over a decade ago -- try to ignore the typos! http://www.dvddrive-in.com/reviews/i...dead727775.htm |
Ah,thanks, have to check that one out.I'd heard of it (Kim Newman mentioned it in his NIGHTMARE MOVIES) but I've never seen it.Nice review !
