Millenium Entertainment to distribute classic Hammer titles!!!

Bigs news from Variety!:

http://variety.com/2013/film/news/mi...ve-1200002390/

"Millennium Entertainment will distribute titles from Exclusive Media’s Hammer library in the U.S. in a deal that covers Hammer titles going back to 1966’s “Dracula: Prince of Darkness.”
Millennium said the alliance will introduce the Hammer Horror brand to a new audience not familiar with the Hammer titles classic line and provide limited edition Blu-rays and Collector’s Sets over the next several years.
First three-film set will be released in April and include “Dracula Prince of Darkness,” Peter Cushing in “The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires” and “Frankenstein Created Woman.”

Hammer has been part of Exclusive Media since 2008. Launched in 1934 as a specialist in horror, it returned to features after a three-decade absence in 2010 with “Let Me In.”"

I'd like to thank DVDNewsFlash for posting this special report on Facebook. :)

Not a lot of confidence in this announcement. And dumping three of 'em onto a budget release isn't building any confidence any more either.

My wallet is breathing a sigh of relief. I especially would love to have Frankenstein Created Woman on blu-ray.

"Millennium Entertainment will distribute titles from Exclusive Media’s Hammer library in the U.S., which means they will eventually be released on Blu-ray disc. According to Steve Nickerson, President of Millennium Entertainment, “Hammer is one of the most renowned and beloved film brands in the world and we are thrilled to bring the Hammer Films library to U.S. fans.” With this new distribution deal, a number of Hammer classics will be made available to the public in new configurations for the first time in almost 10 years. With a multi-tiered approach, a full release schedule is planned to provide high end, limited edition Blu-rays and Collector’s Sets to the loyal horror fan over the next several years. The releases will commence April 2nd with DVD release of the “Hammer Horror 3 Feature Film Set” featuring DRACULA: PRINCE OF DARKNESS (1966), THE LEGEND OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN VAMPIRES (1974) and FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN (1967). “We are really pleased to be in business with Millennium to bring the newly restored titles from our library to the United States in HD for the first time,” said Peter Naish, Senior VP, Distribution, Hammer. “Alongside the new extras we have created, we hope that our American Hammer fans will love the Blu-Ray collector’s editions and that these editions will also help new fans discover our rich history.”"

I don't get their strategy here in terms of releases, is their plan to release them as budget releases as the recently announced one and then later re-release them as blu-rays. It seems kind of ridiculous, I know I will hold off buying in the hopes of eventual blu-rays, but then I guess if the initial dvd releases don't sell the blu-rays might get nixed?
What the heck?

So we're probably looking at nearly identical releases, which will be fine for me as I've held off on the British releases for far. Hopefully they take the opportunity to fix up the controversial aspects of their past releases.

I did.

I have R2 copies of Prince of Darkness and Frankenstein Created Woman but R1 copies would be nice.

Plus I'm dying to see Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires.

That's what I'm waiting for. Huge fan of that movie.

I want as much Hammer on blu-ray first and foremost, but this dvd set of three movies is too good to resist.
I'm a huge fan of Dracula, Prince of Darkness and have not seen the other two yet.
If they are released on R1 blu-ray, an upgrade will be a no-brainer.

How did you like Frankenstein Created Woman?
How does it compare to Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed?
